Quiet fireworks should be encouraged with something like lower VAT. That would focus minds.

placemats · 06/08/2025 20:28

We love thunder and lightning storms and have had a few this year. Pets not affected by the least. Really noisy fireworks always on 5th or feckin New Year's are just awful. Because it's endless.

Yes, lots of the different festivals have roots which twine around each other.

I'm rather a fan of the Roman way of collecting gods like stamp albums. To be Roman was to accept other gods (who knows they might be useful ?).

I'm in the middle of the audiobook of Troy by Stephen Fry ... now if you want gods ....

How much did he get paid for this 🤔

Boris Johnson tells an audience in Taiwan,

"We will solve the problem of a shortage of social care workers which we have in the UK"

"Not with more immigrants but with ChatGPT"

OpenAI's open LLMs can't believe that Trump is president

: gpt-oss-20b can't seem to decide who won the election, but tried to convince us that it was Biden

How can chat gpt deal with a sobbing woman in her 'residence' when she absolutely knows she's been left abandoned - she hasn't.

Or an overweight man who needs three carers, one must be male, to get him into bed, cleaned, changed (requires adult pads) and dressed in nightclothes. Yes all care homes require change of clothes morning and night to protect against infection.

Notonthestairs · 06/08/2025 23:32

Of course what’s most bloody annoying is that he understands full well that we need more people prepared to work in social care.

It was Johnson that launched the health care visa exactly because we have such high vacancy rates.
Care (and businesses) were/are struggling.

What an ‘unwitting’ load of crap from him.

I think Boris meant ChatGPT can count the money the private companies engaged to do those things rake in.

I despair!

Homelessness Minister evicts tenants, apparently tries to sell, then re lets for £700 per month more than previous tenants were paying......

No rules broken.... Rushanara Ali owns 3 rental properties.

Does no one in Lab HQ or Rushanara herself, consider how this looks and what a gift horse it is for the Cons?

Notonthestairs · 07/08/2025 09:49

Bloody hell.

PandoraSocks · 07/08/2025 09:52

I know. It’s absolutely unbelievable. It makes me want to tear my hair out.

PandoraSocks · 07/08/2025 09:53

I see a resignation incoming..

Piggywaspushed · 07/08/2025 09:54

Can someone summarise the 'pink thread' for me?

Whats worse is she has done this before the new renters rights bill becomes law, which would mean a 6 month period before the property can be re let.

Starmer should sack her, not wait for a resignation.

I hope this one isn't going to run on & on.....

Hang on, I will have a link for you in a sec. Right. This is the exact text used on the OP of the pink thread. Everyone saw it for what is was and gave OP a pasting, then MNHQ took the thread down.

BIossomtoes · 07/08/2025 10:09

I agree @Alexandra2001. I’d like to see her sacked - and as quickly and publicly as possible.

Notonthestairs · 07/08/2025 10:11

They need to confirm accuracy of reporting first. Due process and all that. But if correct then absolutely sacked.

BIossomtoes · 07/08/2025 10:13

I don’t think there’s much doubt about it. She hasn’t denied it and is trying to pin the blame for the attempt to extort money for cleaning and redecoration on the agents. Which kind of confirms that the reporting is factual.

PandoraSocks · 07/08/2025 10:14

Even is she evicted for valid reasons, putting the rent up by £700 was a very stupid thing to do when you are homelessness minister.

Pure greed, the previous rent is supposed to have been £3300 per month, so a 21% hike.....

DuncinToffee · 07/08/2025 10:40

Private Eye is covering this as well, This so-called “research organisation” has been cited in The Sun, The Telegraph, The Times and Express

The Centre for Migration Control?

A “Think Tank” ran seemingly by one guy called Robert Bates, a Senior Reform Campaigner in the Channel 4 Documentary released last year ‘Undercover inside Reform’s campaign’.

His data is wrong and purposely misleading.
