Neither Farage or Jenrick are risking "unwittingly" inciting violence, they want violence.

Philp out in the channel today, saying that as he can see a Dinghy, Labours French deal has failed.... he wants more migrants crossing... he and others would hate it if Labour got to reduce the numbers.

PickAChew · 06/08/2025 14:53

Quite. Farage and Jenrick will only be happy when they pot they keep stirring boils over, then they can turn round and say to the government "look what you just did."

placemats · 06/08/2025 14:56

Yes indeed the message is loud and clear. Don't reduce the boats otherwise we have nothing.

Oh I dont think it was unwitting.
I'm sure Grieve/Buckland/Neill dont think it was unwitting either.
Its obvious that some politicians (and some MN posters) are keen to see violence on our streets.
But I'm pleased to see some pushback from Conservative voices.

PandoraSocks · 06/08/2025 17:24

The nights are getting chillier, so I think the chance of violence is fading. Hopefully.

Just as an aside this is also the month of Lughnasa a Celtic celebration of harvest, - Welsh, Scottish and Irish start of it that connects with Lammas. Lammas Weodmonath are the same thing. Inclusivity is important now. All traditions and cultures.

I personally love Diwali even though I'm Irish because it helps along the five months of a long night. Looking forward to a lovely dry and sunny few weeks.

I had Lammas as another option but it didn't look quite right as a title.

How much did he get paid for this 🤔

Boris Johnson tells an audience in Taiwan,

"We will solve the problem of a shortage of social care workers which we have in the UK"

"Not with more immigrants but with ChatGPT"

My DM - as atheist as I - commented how it was serendipity that Diwali - the Hindu festival of light which can be celebrated with fireworks - happens to fall so close to Bonfire Night.

Orange people aside, I love that generally when people mix, they share their festivals. It's almost as if we belong to the same species.

Ironically it would be trivial to replace Boris Johnson with a chatbot. You could probably run it on an Atari 2600. Although I am sure someone could squeeze it into the 1K of a ZX80.

Well I'm sure ChatGPT will help my kid get washed and dressed.

As an Irish Catholic from Northern Ireland, I don't celebrate Bonfire night. It's just gruesome.

We celebrate eve of all souls which is also known as Samhain. A night when we think of the connection between the living and the dead. Halloween.

Anglo Saxons were the immigrants and of course they were welcomed and rapidly took over. In England.

LlttledrummergirI · 06/08/2025 18:23

I'm not a fan of fireworks, other than silent ones. The terror they can evoke in war survivors, military and animals means I have a low opinion of anyone who deliberately buys and uses the loud ones for any reason.

placemats · 06/08/2025 18:28

Nor am I @LlttledrummergirI they should be banned.

Saucery · 06/08/2025 18:29

I loathe noisy fireworks and anyone who lets them off. It’s perfectly possible to have whatever Light Festival your own culture prefers without causing distress and terror to animals and some people.

Yes, lots of the different festivals have roots which twine around each other.

Yes, very true.
