No cat tax - will a sunset into the sea from our recent holiday do?

Has anyone seen the Civil Unrest thread in news?

Oh my lord, there are some posters on there that are obviously hoping for riots.Eta: Also Yaxley-Lennon supporters. I am backing away slowly. No arguing with that sort.

BIossomtoes · 04/08/2025 09:49

Just had a look. I’m not going there.

Best decision. I made a couple of posts, but best to stay away.

MN has opened itself up to this kind of discourse sadly.

DuncinToffee · 04/08/2025 10:08

Thanks for the warning.

Sky news is once again covering a NF announcement live.

Being an old person when I see NF I always think National Front. But it is sort of apt.

Piggywaspushed · 04/08/2025 10:11

I would really like to recommend the book War Doctor to this thread. It's by David Nott. I am sure he has thoughts about the morality of the Gazan children. He may even be one of the surgeons. He's an extraordinary man and it's an incredible book.

BIWI · 04/08/2025 10:11

I find myself only dipping into MN these days, to a few ‘safe’ threads. I have to take my blood pressure for a GP’s appointment and getting involved will do my readings no good!

Tax as per.

Yes. Lots of people repeating exact NF phrases.
Happy to get their news from FB as its more accurate apparently and all the newspapers are involved in a mass cover up - because thats in Murdoch's interests!
Its a concerted effort by some posters.

Saucery · 04/08/2025 10:41

Apparently, only TikTok will tell you what’s really going on these days. I’m trialing some new contact lenses and MN lately is giving them a proper old workout with the repeated eye rolls.

PandoraSocks · 04/08/2025 10:42

I wonder who the defection to Reform is? Truss would be amusing.

SerendipityJane · 04/08/2025 10:45

I see there's some crocodile tears from people who went to the 2024 Farage riots being paraded before us. Seems they aren't some sort of substitute for Alton Towers after all.

Notonthestairs · 04/08/2025 10:46

Surely Truss has too much baggage. Same with Braverman.

I do note that Farage has repeatedly talked about not having MPs in the Cabinet - using external 'experts' rather than anyone answerable to the commons. A good way of getting around our democracy.

That is exactly how I look at mumsnet, these days! I even have the same staircase, though that's the part where I'm gingerly trying not to throw myself down it.

I've gone on a reporting strike because if MNHQ are happy to accept the clicks the racist shit gets them I'm not going to police it for them.

I was just reading that on BBC News site. Giving the 38 yr old woman the benefit of the doubt tbh. If she has indeed applied a bit of reflection to her behaviour then good. The letters of apology sent to the Southport mosque are interesting too - freely written or as part of restorative justice for a lighter sentence?

I sporadically report but never check my MN email account to see if they’ve been acted on or handwaved away.

The thing is if they’re not reported it emboldens them and they get worse. I gather that an entire thread has disappeared this morning becoming it was like Swiss cheese from all the deletions. MN will only take a stand against it if enough of us make it clear how much we object to it.

Piggywaspushed · 04/08/2025 11:26

Yes, because of their workload rather than any other ethical reason...

Does the reason matter? Surely it’s a good thing regardless of why they do it? It shows reporting offensive posts works.

BIossomtoes · 04/08/2025 11:39

In other news, apparently Reform’s latest recruit is the PCC for Leicestershire, Rupert Matthews. His occupation is writing books about the paranormal. 😂

That was my philosophy but stuff, even really awful stuff, just stays up. If turning a blind eye to hate speech is part of their business model then they're welcome to the cesspit they're building. I'm happy to use the site for my own purposes and no more for as long as I can find safe corners.

I stick with a few ongoing threads, the occasional daft one, occasionally throw the cat among the pigeons in the perennial why would a family of 6 need to do more than one load of washing per month type thread and throw out the odd LTB.

I don't think they ever say anything else than thanks for reporting it.

I still report personal attacks and hate/racist speech. MN was on the ball on the children from Gaza thread.

So someone called Vanessa Frake has joined Reform as justice adviser.

Vanessa Frake this morning in Times Radio

“I’m not an expert on trans people, all that I know is that everybody should be treated with humanity and decency.”

Reform UK’s justice adviser
@VanessaFrake
says trans women should be “assessed on an individual basis” rather than automatically removed from women’s prisons.

Does she know anything about Reform and its supporters?
