I posted this in another thread. The tumbleweed was predictable ...

A “disgusting” paedophile who was jailed for his part in the disorder at Rotherham has been handed a new jail sentence for sexually abusing a young girl.
Phillip Wood even gave the 12-year-old a sexually transmitted disease and left her covered in love bites, having filmed his sordid behaviour.
The 23-year-old was only jailed in June for his part in the disorder at the Holiday Inn Express in August last year.

Yes, I noticed the crickets on that, Jane.

The same tumbleweed occured when I posted the Guardian article that 2 out of 5 concerned protesters who were arrested at last years riots had previous for domestic abuse

I mean if that is typical of the sort of evil predator we are trying to protect our womenfolk from, then the best answer is to flood the country with brown faces so predators stand out more.

Or so ChatGPT suggested when I gave it the data.

I can't even begin to imagine the trauma that 12 year old girl went through. And for those who didn't respond, you're part of the problem.

Saucery · 07/08/2025 15:16

Or so ChatGPT suggested when I gave it the data. Grin (I miss the Laugh reaction).

Ant Middleton has always reminded of the type of man who I go out of my way to avoid. I’d say I’m sure he’s lovely really, but he seems hell bent on proving me wrong on that recently.

I despair!

Homelessness Minister evicts tenants, apparently tries to sell, then re lets for £700 per month more than previous tenants were paying......

No rules broken.... Rushanara Ali owns 3 rental properties.

Does no one in Lab HQ or Rushanara herself, consider how this looks and what a gift horse it is for the Cons?

Ok - important bit of context on this that most of the press seem to have missed somehow.
The tenants weren’t evicted. Their fixed term tenancy ended. They were offered a rolling monthly contract while she tried to sell the house but declined and moved out. The house didn’t sell, so she relisted and got new tenants while it remains (I think) on the market. I’m not sure why the increase. Maybe she’s profiteering. Maybe the previous tenants were on a below market rent.
Im disappointed in Labour for a lot of things, but I’m not sure this particular incident is one to hang draw and quarter anyone over.

BIossomtoes · 07/08/2025 15:28

Unfortunately it’s the optics @cardibach. And they’re appalling, made worse by the job she holds. As are the attempts to defend her.

Saucery · 07/08/2025 15:32

I wonder who brought it to the attention of the press?

Someone who wasn't looking into Nigel Farages business dealings.

The optics arent great, but that’s largely because the press have (once again) posted lies. She didn’t evict anyone.
I’m not aware whether she has more properties, but it’s entirely possible that putting the house on the market was part of trying not to be a landlord given her post.
I’m not so much defending as hoping, as ever, for a bit of honesty in journalism.

DuncinToffee · 07/08/2025 16:07

I have read that she has a few properties, it's probably not the best idea to have a landlord as homelessness minister

Exactly, I saw three. It’s tone deaf.

cardibach · 07/08/2025 16:41

It is. I’m not defending that. I’m saying she may be trying to sell because it’s not a good plan. And she didn’t evict anyone. Facts matter.

Questions do need to be asked about the process for selecting her as an MP and it's rigourous enough at town council level.

He’s very gifted at election campaigning but it seems that doesn’t translate to being in power.

I could have done with these reports and fact checkings on a thread yesterday

Newspaper gives misleading impression of the percentage of sexual crime committed by foreign nationals

https://bsky.app/profile/danielhilson0.bsky.social/post/3lvstzl3mik2m

IPSO finds The Telegraph to have breached clause 1 of the Editors’ Code in an article which impressively managed to present data sourced by Rob Bates’ Centre for Migration Control ‘think tank’ more misleadingly than the original CMC report did! @jdportes.bsky.social https://www.ipso.co.uk/rulings/00910-25/

Fag ash looks a bit like John Prescott in that photo! Apologies to John.

Sorry, but I can see it. Must be me. It us only that photo, normally he obviously looks nothing like JP, who was great.

LlttledrummergirI · 07/08/2025 18:29

I can see it too @PandoraSocks I think it's the angle and the lighting.

Shame he's not even a quarter of the decent politician Prescott was.

placemats · 07/08/2025 18:34

Nope. It's not a likeness at all. Not even similar.

cardibach · 07/08/2025 18:36

I can see it too @placemats
Not suggesting they normally look alike or have anything else in common though.
