If you walk at least 10k steps a day, are you slim?

Just curious really having seen all these “work out how many steps a day you need to lose weight”
I average 7k a day and thinking about increasing it to lose some weight (as well as cutting out snacks. I know weight loss comes mainly from food)

I get a maximum of 1200 steps as I’m disabled, I weight 8st10 and I’m a size 8-10. Just for the other side of the equation. I’m not fit and have no muscle, but I’m slim.

I walk 10k to 12k steps a day just at work and getting on with my daily routine, I can easy get to 15k if I also go for an actual walk. Alas I am still overweight, half a stone over my ideal weight I'd say.

I work in a school, we're on week 5 of the summer holidays. My step count has definitely dipped as has my consistency. I'm probably averaging 5k, some days loads of steps some days maybe only 2k. And I've gained about 3lbs in these 5 weeks arghh. I must be eating more too, it can't just be the steps.

So in conclusion I walk lots of steps, I'm still overweight, I've recently walked less steps and now I'm more overweight ha!

The exercise has got to help....but it's mostly food. I also found when I'm walking more I'm less likely to be snacking....

My husband has an impressive one-pack, and walks 15k steps a day with his job.

Yes I do and no I’m not.

IME you won't lose weight by increasing your steps. In fact you're at risk of gaining weight, as often people think they've 'earned' an extra snack or bigger portion, because they've done exercise. Long hikes etc are great but if there's a bacon sandwich or piece of cake in a cafe on the way, then the net effect will be weight gain.
Focus completely on your nutrition for weight loss. Exercise is for heart health, mental health, muscle strength.

Yes, now, but, only because of eating less not exercise.

I walk, ride and hike every day and I’m slim. 20k steps a day or more.

I walk 10000 plus a day and I am slim. But that’s because I’ve just lost four stone using Mounjaro. I walked the same and was fat before.

I walk 12k steps a day thanks to my 2 mad spaniels/work but I'm still overweight. I think it helps maintain where I am but it's only diet that sorts out weight loss. I start every day with great intentions Grin

I am always shocked when I check how few calories are burned by exercise. I have to do so much to burn off one item of high-cal food! However, I do feel the benefits of walking a lot more as I get older, it makes me feel so much better, physically and mentally.

Breastfeeding is a better calorie burner than walking. fondly remembers the days of burning calories while sat on my arse
