Labour isn't working - Thread 5

TheNuthatch · 29/07/2025 14:33

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. Labour isn't working!

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Thanks all.
Had a great time, lots of laughing and dancing, good for the soul. Gosh I felt old though 😂.

What world is this?? 😂 Glad (!) you had a fabulous time!! 💃 🎶

Where once upon a time, in a galaxy far faraway I would’ve been dancing the night away in ministry of sound, the Leadmill, or Cream.. These days it’s an event on a Sat night if I move from my sofa (with blanket) to the kitchen..

RazzleDazzleEm · 18/08/2025 17:16

Good morning Labour lovers.

@twistyizzy Khan said Labour supporters would be delusional if they couldn't see the difficulties the party had.
Ha, he needs to read MN. Plenty of that on here.

I didn't watch much of the WH reports yesterday. Glad to see it didn't end in another huge bust-up between Zelenskyy and Trump.
I did see the mini speeches from the European leaders at the multi-lat. Yet again, found Starmer utterly uninspiring. He just sat on the end saying 'erm' a lot 🙄.
Can we swap Starmer for Finland's PM please? He's much better.

Yields on government 30 year bonds closed at the highest level since 1998 yesterday.

Another attack on wealth. Ofc for some it’s not even wealth, it’s just what their house is worth these days.

What a way to stop people selling..🙄🙈

Edited

More batshittery.
It will just stop people down-sizing. Why would they want that when there is a shortage of housing? Madness.
Also, who do they think are paying all these stealth taxes if not working people? The family dog?

I am seriously concerned about the advice Reeves is receiving. We all know now that she couldn't run a bath, but you would expect there to be at least some competence around her in the treasury.

So you'd pay stamp duty on buying a property and a national tax on selling a property if your house is worth more than £500k? Well that's going to be even more elderly people rattling around in homes that are too big for them, good job the house building bonanza is going so well...oh, yeah, it's a shit show.

On the upside, there seems to be some assurance that Labour would need two terms to dick around with council tax so we can all rest easy there.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 19/08/2025 08:32

Oh, xpost 😁

Parsley4321 · 19/08/2025 08:33

Yes I would swop Starmer for anything right now - remember Multi coloured swop shop that would be a great swop option. The thread of RR and her tax grab on homes makes depressing reading someone just said they miss Rishi god so do I. I actually never thought much about politics trusted the government but since these lot have been in power I cannot believe the mess they’re creating.

This is something my dad told me he had heard about recently. I was hoping he’d got his wires crossed, but it seems not. This will affect a lot of people. My house probably isn’t worth £500k yet. But if the population keeps growing as much as it is (not helped by our lack of border controls), then house prices are heading only one way. I dread to think what other ideas will be announced via the press in the lead up to the autumn budget. They make a mess of everything they meddle with, and their only solution to anything is to increase taxes.

Oh, xpost 😁

Great minds think alike 😁.
That was my first though too, lots of older people staying in their large family homes instead of down-sizing. Unless this will also apply to inherited property if it's sold on?
I'm greatful that I don't live in the SE if Labour are going after property.

I haven't seen that thread yet, I'll have a look. I don't think this will help Labour's popularity.

All these radical changes being considered is really beginning to have an impact on what we are doing/ or rather not doing in our own home. Big plans have been withered to potentially and maybes while we see what shit is coming down the pipeline next.

TheNuthatch · 19/08/2025 08:45

@MorningLarkEchoes Yes I remember your post about your DF. None of us had seen/heard anything, but he was right.
We will have to suffer months of this leading up to the budget. Each idea more crazy than the last.

I wonder if there is Any competence in this gvt. Anywhere. Not a good reflection of the ‘first state schooled’ government is it? 👀 🤔

Absentmindedsmile · 19/08/2025 08:51

Ps. Family dogs and rabbits - that’d be a government I’d buy into, at this stage.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 19/08/2025 08:53

Yes, I suppose this might be the 'getting us ready for tax increases phase' to get us limbered up for the Autumn budget. Perhaps each suggestion will be more outlandish than the last until we're all just relieved when Reeves dissolves the fiscal rules and just increases income tax for every poor, working sod trying to outrun inflation.

Maybe yes, tall poppies etc.
The economy will be further weakened in the process though, as it was pre the last budget.
4 more years 🙄.

It's painful, isn't it? Even the most fervent of mn Labour supporter has given up defending Labour almost entirely and can only console themselves that life would be worse under Reform. Ignoring that this incompetent and contentious Labour government has doubled the popularity of Reform in a year. And, as you say, four more to go.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 19/08/2025 09:43

Oh, and in another round of, life could be worse, Labour list is reporting that race baiting, sex denier Dawn Butler will stand to be London Mayor if Khan steps down.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 19/08/2025 09:48

Oh, yes, I miss Sunak/ Hunt too. It wasn't perfect but it was a hell of a lot better than this.

Dawn - Kemi Badenoch is a white supremacist wearing blackface - Butler.
What a wonderful representative of our capital she would make.
