Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The kittens have been fed & gone back to bed, and both girls are awake but not been down yet. I'll shift in a minute and put the washer on.

I'm currently sitting about waiting for the contractor my landlord insisted needed to come at 8am on Saturday morning to investigate the problem, carry out the necessary repairs, treat the walls below, and repaint them to an acceptable standard. All between 8-12noon 🤔. Impressive, eh?

They'll not have time to do much if/when they do turn up - they're not having longer than was demanded. They'll just have to come back at a reasonable time (I'm not being a dick - I offered literally any working day unless I have an appointment, since I'm on summer holidays from work, & was told that isn't enough time it has to be 8-12 today 🤷‍♀️. Not sure about the logic there). There'll be no time at this rate.

This afternoon, we're going for birthday cards for the girls' dad and work boots/shoes for dd1. Then home. To sit down, and do nothing! I need to think of something easy for tea at some point.

After tea, it'll be early shower and early night for me. I'm knackered after a fun, but long, day out in York with dd2 yesterday.

What about all of you? 🙂

I went on my three mile walk at six am. Now cup of tea in my hand, I will wake up my chap and the family. They all think I am mad, don't care

lucysmam · 26/07/2025 09:01

@Zuve where do you walk to?

OP posts:
twistyizzy · 26/07/2025 09:02

Done horses and dog and now procrastinating about cleaning the bathroom before DD gets up and my day of Mum's taxi service resumes. She has a Pony Club exam to sit this morning then prep for competition next week.

This evening I'm helping parents fill out form for Attendance Allowance for my 80 Yr old with Parkinsons. They've faffed around for a few years but I put my foot down and said they now had to apply as she's starting to rapidly decline.

DH been made redundant so tomorrow is sorting finances to pay off mortgage and figure out how long he can last without a job from the payout. Plus need to research counselling/therapy for him as he has been with company for 26 years so it's a whole process for him to recover from this. He has been on edge of a breakdown for 10 years due to the high stress level + demands of the job so to go from that to nothing I'm seriously worried about him sliding into depression or worse.

Early morning is best time of the day and it helps energise me!

TheChosenTwo · 26/07/2025 09:05

Morning everyone 😀
Woke up early so took myself for a lovely swim in the lake.
Back and showered now, going to town to see if I can find something to wear to dc’s graduation on Monday, if not it will be something I already own!
This afternoon we are heading to a day festival happening up the road, all the dc are taking friends and they are looking forward to it. Not looking too cheerful outside so not sure how long I’ll last.
Dh is up but the kids are all still asleep at the moment, very peaceful in the house.

frozendaisy · 26/07/2025 09:06

morning!
been up since dawn it feels like
bread in maker almost done
coffee being drunk
already had a (fun) bicker with H
perfect start to the day!
out later - teenage jobs and collecting the usual additional teen - been hosting and feeding teens all week - it’s expensive and relentless

after bread out, dough for burger buns in

burgers/spicy bean burgers for dinner
with sides of various cheeses, various sauces, green salad, homemade coleslaw, houmous, tahini sauce

and I said we would try cherry ripple ice cream in ice cream maker - why I don’t know - involves stoning, soaking, blending, sieving cherries before we even get to the adding it in part - they can help although that usually slows down the process

WonsWoo · 26/07/2025 09:17

I’m on the train on the way to visit DS and his GF who just moved into their first flat. DH went ahead last night in the car with all of DSs stuff and they went to the cinema.

I’ve got coffee and a cinnamon bun and am enjoying the solitude (as much as you can on a train but luckily it’s not too busy).

We’re going to Ikea later and Wingstop for lunch. Then DH and I will drive back home and pick doggo up from day care.

Probably something light for dinner.

Really looking forward to seeing my baby boy. He’s my youngest and last to leave and I’m so proud of how hard he’s worked to make this happen. He’s only 20. Trying not to be that over emotional mother 🥹

Andnowshesatoddler · 26/07/2025 09:33

Feels really dark and sluggy today so we're having a nothing much sort of day.
I was going to do some shopping but I really can't be bothered.

SkintSingleMumm · 26/07/2025 09:37

Got to pop to the market to collect school uniforms i ordered. Then drop child off at a birthday sleepover. Will drop the other child to their gfs house. StbexH is away over night so looking forward to having the evening by myself, eating what i want and watching what i want 😆

Ah, this is lovely @WonsWoo Have a good day

ShipshapeShore · 26/07/2025 09:41

Going for a long walk to town with the DC in a bit. I'm struggling with anxiety that's hit me out of nowhere the last few days - could be my age, low vitamin B12 (picked up on blood test, appointment to discuss is in 2 weeks 🙄) or lack of routine because of the holidays! Either way it's rather unpleasant.

Love to hear about all your early walks and swims, I need more exercise i think.

Have a good day all.

mamaduckbone · 26/07/2025 09:41

Morning @lucysmam and all.
@frozendaisy your food plans sound delicious - hope the cherry ice cream is worth it!

I've been for a very soggy run after a cup of tea with dh before he went to work.
The house is empty this morning - ds1 is at his gf's and ds2 stayed at a friend's last night - so I'm going to make the most of it and catch up with some study for a course I've been seriously neglecting.
I'll get on the garden for an hour or two this afternoon if it stops raining

There's pulled pork carnitas in the slow cooker for dinner but I've no idea who's in. I've lost track of ds1's work shifts and ds2 is having a very -feral- social post GCSE summer.

Happy Saturday everyone!

gingercat02 · 26/07/2025 09:41

Morning all. Busy one today, its DS 17th on Monday and we are nowhere near ready.
I'm volunteering 11-1 and then straight out for presents etc.
Somehow need to squeeze in the F1 sprint race and qualifying. It will all record just need to avoid the results until this evening.
No idea about food as yet.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 26/07/2025 09:43

First coffee of the day, done a laundry load and put the dishwasher on, packing for a couple of days away at my brothers wedding while trying to get my daughter to chill, we’re bridesmaids and she’s super excited having never been one before.

PermanentTemporary · 26/07/2025 09:44

Morning all! Very frustrating Lucysmam, especially as you just know they will start the job anyway and then cause trouble when you ask them to leave.

I’m in the bath as usual, having done a brief work catchup from yesterday. We’re taking dp’s mum over to see her granddaughter’s house and puppy. Haven’t even thought about dinner yet, maybe halloumi salad.

MissMarplesNiece · 26/07/2025 09:46

Good morning all. I've just eaten two crumpets spread with marmite - so tasty - and am about to drink a cup of tea. In about half an hour I'm going to walk to chemist and on the way call in at post office to send some cards to postcard penfriend. It looks like it's going to throw it down here but Im trying to walk rather than automatically jump in the car.

This afternoon I was intending to count butterflies for the Big Butterfly Count but I think the weather will be against me and the butterflies. Instead I'll get out some sewing and probably watch Tour de France on TV.

DH is in charge of all meal prep - soup for lunch and falafel for tea.

DilemmaDelilah · 26/07/2025 09:48

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I was awake at 6am but, very unusually, I was so tired last night that I didn't have my usual bath and was asleep before 10.

We had to make the incredibly difficult decision to have my little cat put down on Monday. She has been declining but had been happy and still enjoying life - until the weekend when it became obvious that she really wasn't any more. We had always agreed that when she was no longer enjoying life we would release her, but it was so very hard. What it has done though, is to enable us to book a week away. That hasn't been possible for quite some time as she had a litter tray but didn't use it reliably, and we couldn't ask our lovely neighbour who was happy to feed her to deal with that. So we have a week booked in a lovely place near Clovelly in North Devon, but not until mid September due to various appointments between now and then.

I don't have anything planned for today. I have toe infections again which aren't healing due to the cancer medication I'm on, so I'm taking a week off the meds to help them heal. Meanwhile it hurts to walk so I'm trying not to do it too much. We will probably watch a film this afternoon, Mr Dilemma's suggestion. I have a wash on at the moment. I thought about doing some batch cooking but I have a delivery of meat from an online butcher coming next week so I need to keep the space in the freezer free.

With that in mind - we're having savoury pork and vegetable mince out of the freezer (from my last lot of batch cooking) with baby potatoes this evening. Mr Dilemma doesn't like vegetables but he does like this, even though it actually contains more veg than meat! I'm having garlic tomato mushrooms (out of the freezer, but home made) on toast for lunch... Mr Dilemma doesn't like those either so he will probably have eggs or something.

SaywhatIthink · 26/07/2025 09:52

Got out of bed at 9. 35am now having my second coffee.
Going to spend the day watching films.

Whattheduck · 26/07/2025 09:56

Morning
Up early and took the dog for a walk
Popped to get bread and milk
Just watching last nights Coronation Street and having a coffee
Was hoping to get some washing on the line but just started raining here
Going to see my mum this morning for a catch up she’s making bacon cobs
Dh is away with work and Dd is working from 1.00 until 9.00
Going to sort out my holiday clothes as going away next Saturday
Need to change the beds and clean upstairs
No plans for tonight will probably have a jacket potato for tea and watch some tv
Have a good day everyone

LizzyEm · 26/07/2025 10:07

I am doing nothing today.

Currently on the sofa between 2 dogs and am going to watch telly and scroll shite all day.

lucysmam · 26/07/2025 10:12

Well well well...the "contractor" has just been, and gone. He appears to have been a friend of the LL, not a contractor at all & was expecting to paint the walls/ceiling. How he thought he was getting to the ceiling I do not know - he had no ladder, & is certainly not borrowing my wonky one he'd probably fall off, and no reachy pole 🤷‍♀️. He wandered off down the street shouting "aint got time for this, you rent!". Ffs.

Anyway, sun's coming out so we might walk into town 🌞

Morning all.

@lucysmam he sounds awful. I really feel for you. We are in our first bought house now but I hated that intrusion when renting. I hope you’re ok. Any news on a new place?

I have a free day today. DH is out with DD and DS is out with friends.

Im feeling a bit low today. Not sure why. Will go for a walk with
DDog. He’s had a big walk with DH earlier but helps clear my head.

Susiesue61 · 26/07/2025 10:21

We were out last night straight after work, so lying in bed currently 😊 Taking DS1 to cricket, will watch a bit and need to go to Sainsbury’s. Early night before my race for life tomorrow

lucysmam · 26/07/2025 10:21

Aw @DilemmaDelilah I'm sorry about your little cat. It's clear from your posts the past few weeks that you loved her very much 💐

Love this thread but have never posted before.
Up at 6:30 for peaceful cup of tea and breakfast before work. Will finish at 4, home for playing with 3yr old DD, pork chow mein cooked by DH, bed for DD then we're having a Lost marathon on Netflix - didn't watch it the first time round, just got really into it and now discovered Netflix are removing it next month!!
Have a lovely day everyone.
