Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The kittens have been fed & gone back to bed, and both girls are awake but not been down yet. I'll shift in a minute and put the washer on.

I'm currently sitting about waiting for the contractor my landlord insisted needed to come at 8am on Saturday morning to investigate the problem, carry out the necessary repairs, treat the walls below, and repaint them to an acceptable standard. All between 8-12noon 🤔. Impressive, eh?

They'll not have time to do much if/when they do turn up - they're not having longer than was demanded. They'll just have to come back at a reasonable time (I'm not being a dick - I offered literally any working day unless I have an appointment, since I'm on summer holidays from work, & was told that isn't enough time it has to be 8-12 today 🤷‍♀️. Not sure about the logic there). There'll be no time at this rate.

This afternoon, we're going for birthday cards for the girls' dad and work boots/shoes for dd1. Then home. To sit down, and do nothing! I need to think of something easy for tea at some point.

After tea, it'll be early shower and early night for me. I'm knackered after a fun, but long, day out in York with dd2 yesterday.

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning, I’m enjoying my usual avocado toast and a coffee having taken the dogs out before 7, cleared a big pile of ironing and cleaned the kitchen. I am going down to my Shed to do some arty farty bits and probably more of my mitre squares blanket, it’s slow going because it’s 4 ply.
Both dogs are asleep, the washing machine is bleeping so the washing needs hanging out - it’s been sort of drizzling but should be dry by late morning.
Gammon and chips with home grown runner beans for dinner.
That’s so hard @DilemmaDelilah , the hardest decision ever when you have pets 🤗
The wonderful carpenter from along the road is popping in later because I want an awning for the Shed, it gets too hot to sit in, even when I have the fan on, when the temperatures are above 25° 🙄
Nothing else happening here!

lucysmam · 26/07/2025 10:34

@Thislittlekitten it's so annoying! I don't mind so much when it's through the week & a time that suits, but why waste my bloody Saturday morning 🙄. & don't send someone to be fucking disrespectful of my housing status. Makes not one jot of difference to someone employed to carry out a repair whether I rent or own a fucking mansion!! His mate rocking up does explain why it had to be Saturday and not a weekday though. Probably works through the week.

I’m in a hotel room in Sheffield, 180 miles from my home on the South coast. We’re here for the Tramlines festival. We saw Pulp last night and tonight it’s Franz Ferdinand and The Reytons. We’re off for a look round the city first.

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

Very frustrating about the ‘contractor’ @lucysmam. Hope you find somewhere soon.

So sorry about your cat @DilemmaDelilah. It’s never easy to let them go and they leave a huge hole in our hearts.

I have been awake since shortly after 5 annoyingly. Listens to a sleep story. Read a bit. Tossed and turned. Gave up trying to get back to sleep and got up just after 7. Had a cuppa and then went out for a walk around the fields.

Came back just as DH appeared so I made us both some toast and had another cuppa. Have emptied the dishwasher and am having another cuppa while I wait for the washing machine to finish. I then need to iron trousers and a shirt for DH as we are going to a party this afternoon. He would do them himself but has a dodgy knee so standing too long isn’t ideal.

We will then have to a quick earlyish mini lunch before we go out as not sure what time food will be and don’t want to drink on an empty stomach.

Party will no doubt be an all day affair but I’m not sure we will make it too late. So planning on coming home early evening at the latest.

Got long drive ahead tomorrow and overnight stay. Not looking fwd to it. Need to do some housework but just want to sleep🙄 got a good book on the go and Classic FM on in the background. Peaceful. Have as good a day as you possibly can everyone everyone.
Great to have these threads- no chance of people turning nasty.

lucysmam · 26/07/2025 10:44

@Waitingfordoggo have fun exploring Sheffield! It seems strange folks travelling to my neck of the woods - I never really see it as somewhere to come to!

@Cattery have an amazing time 🎶. I have epic fomo & regret for missing this one!

Omg. Wonderful. Have a great time. Tried to get tickets😩

Tarkan · 26/07/2025 10:45

Morning all! I’m having a lazy day today. I was at a festival thing yesterday with Cammy Barnes, White Lies, The Fratellis and Ocean Colour Scene so my poor body is feeling it after being on my feet for most of yesterday. I have fibromyalgia so I know I need to rest today to avoid a flare.

My eldest is away at a convention in Manchester and my youngest is at theatre group this morning. We stayed at my parents’ house last night so do need to get home at some point, just not sure if it’ll be today or tomorrow.

BCBird · 26/07/2025 10:46

They are one group who.i wish i'd seen.

BCBird · 26/07/2025 10:47

Ocean Colour Scene- woo hoo. Saw them years ago. Hope they were great. Know what you mean about aching after the event😟

So very sorry for the loss of your lovely cat 🥰

Oldraver · 26/07/2025 10:56

On the train to London for a gig, though have yet to receive tickets and been going round in circles for ages. Stressed

Cattery · 26/07/2025 11:19

@lucysmam @BCBird Thanks so much. Loved them for 30 years. Their music has been the backdrop to so much that’s happened over that time. My youngest son has also got a ticket. He’s just left to make his way to Wembley with his mates. It should be AMAZING xx

RabbitsRock · 26/07/2025 11:28

Good morning @lucysmam & the Saturday crew. Bit grey & drizzly here in Cornwall so I’m determined to do some trying on from “Mount Fuji” as DH calls the pile on my bedroom stool! Found a dress still in its wrapping yesterday & loving wearing it - it was cheap but really well cut & flattering. Got up about 9.30. DH has a rare day off so we took our time with a cuppa made by me. I’ve had the tumble dryer on for our bedding etc, unloaded/ loaded the dishwasher & have the first of 3 loads of washing on the go. DH is catching up with Tour de France so I’ll hoover round when he’s done. Making Pasta Norma (or something like that) for tea. Has aubergine & cherry toms in it. I love aubergine. We haven’t seen DD16 yet. Have a good day all 🙂

RabbitsRock · 26/07/2025 11:30

Just briefly skimmed through - so sorry for the loss of your cat @DilemmaDelilah 😢

lucysmam · 26/07/2025 11:33

@Oldraver who are you seeing? I hope your ticket arrives soon! Stresses me no end when they're not there at least a good few days in advance.

Town festival this weekend. I am currently sat in the blazing sun while DS jumps on a nice shaded bouncy castle. Then we will go to the skate park for a rock and roll event i.e. live music while people skate, also in the blazing sun. After that I think we'll have to go for a swim in the lake to cool down!

DD is at home, still asleep, and OH is at home too because he can't handle this heat.

Whoooo · 26/07/2025 11:50

Back from holiday :(
Had a lovely time, so much so we've booked for next year :)
Dropped older dd at the train station, dropped dd at work, picked up my new glasses, checked in on elderly p.
Been to aldi for laundry detergent as I have 40 million laundry loads to do 😫
I might have a coffee ☕️ soon

Catsandcannedbeans · 26/07/2025 11:50

I’m at my Dad’s house waiting on one of his legendary fry ups. My DH got extremely drunk last night because his friend was over from Australia. So drunk when I tried to get into bed he said “no I’m married”. This morning I took the kids to see my dad so he could recover.

Simonjt · 26/07/2025 11:50

@lucysmam remember you must be given 24 hours notice of non-emergency repairs and you can so no to the request.

Our son is only his way to stay with his Grandma in the UK for the week, he begged to do it last year but we didn’t have the guts to send him. He leaves just before 3, so he’s still deciding what he wants to take with him. He’s so excited, we have told him someone will be looking after him at the airport and on the aeroplane they’ll keep an eye, he is of course insisting he is far too grown up for that. So it’s going to be an odd and quiet week with just his sister at home.

Once he’s dropped off our daughter has a dentist appointment, so after that we’ll go to softplay as a treat for her.

slightlydistrac · 26/07/2025 12:07

I've drunk several cups of coffee, been to Aldi, and have now put a load of washing on. What a thrill, eh? 😂

Currently contemplating driving over to a local English Heritage place and visiting their second-hand book shop.

We are having lamb koftas with couscous, garlic mushrooms and stir-fried peppers for dinner tonight.

PestoHoliday · 26/07/2025 12:10

Coffee break after 2 hours of weeding docks and dandelions from my raised beds.

It's a great year for fruit and flowers, and also for stubborn weeds!

DilemmaDelilah · 26/07/2025 12:29

Thank you so much to everyone for your kind thoughts. Indy was 'only' a cat but had been in our lives for over 18 years and is very much missed.
