Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The kittens have been fed & gone back to bed, and both girls are awake but not been down yet. I'll shift in a minute and put the washer on.

I'm currently sitting about waiting for the contractor my landlord insisted needed to come at 8am on Saturday morning to investigate the problem, carry out the necessary repairs, treat the walls below, and repaint them to an acceptable standard. All between 8-12noon 🤔. Impressive, eh?

They'll not have time to do much if/when they do turn up - they're not having longer than was demanded. They'll just have to come back at a reasonable time (I'm not being a dick - I offered literally any working day unless I have an appointment, since I'm on summer holidays from work, & was told that isn't enough time it has to be 8-12 today 🤷‍♀️. Not sure about the logic there). There'll be no time at this rate.

This afternoon, we're going for birthday cards for the girls' dad and work boots/shoes for dd1. Then home. To sit down, and do nothing! I need to think of something easy for tea at some point.

After tea, it'll be early shower and early night for me. I'm knackered after a fun, but long, day out in York with dd2 yesterday.

What about all of you? 🙂

@Oldraver who are you seeing? I hope your ticket arrives soon! Stresses me no end when they're not there at least a good few days in advance.

Imagine Dragons at Tottenham and still no sign of tickets and no contact from Tottenham. Really fucked off

Are your tickets resale from Viagogo?

No, I could understand if it were that

I treated myself to a Premium Package direct from Tottenham

@Oldraver Oh that’s so annoying. Make sure you’ve checked through your emails even the spam etc. Hope you get it sorted soon x

DinoLil · 26/07/2025 13:08

Afternoon all!

I've been up since 4am (thanks new meds which don't let me sleep unless it's about 1pm in the afternoon 🙄). I did a same day order from Iceland which came earlier, including a bottle of lemon gin. I'm now eating an ice lolly to keep me awake past the 1pm slump, watching 'Call the Bailiffs' on Ch5 and hope the gin this evening will see me have a good night's sleep.

Very gloomy here today. Dog is in a bad mood with everything including a small fly that buzzed past her nose. I'll take her out later this afternoon. She doesn't 'do' mornings apart from her breakfast. She's an old lady!

Got out of bed at 9. 35am now having my second coffee.
Going to spend the day watching films.

Nice to see someone else being lazy!
Got up at 10.30. Looked at emails. Watched documentary on Helen Mirren . Had lunch. Scrolling Mumsnet . Had planned to clean in conservatory- no desire to do this whatsoever!

Yes I've been through with a fine tooth comb and also on my laptop. Got email saying where to go etc, then one saying tickets should be on way.

It's the absolute buggering around by the Tottenham phone line and supposedly helpline that's bugging me

I no it's a trivial thing in the grand scheme of things

@lucysmamsounds like a chancer

Cattery · 26/07/2025 14:12

@Oldraver I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. Xx

Oldraver · 26/07/2025 14:14

@DilemmaDelilah, sorry about your cat

Do you feel able to share her name or a pic, no worries if you can't

DilemmaDelilah · 26/07/2025 14:40

@Oldraver this was India in happier days. She was an old lady even then!

Awe, I love black cats, though never had one. She reached a ripe old age

slightlydistrac · 26/07/2025 15:18

The third load of laundry is on the go and we have the patio doors open, so can hear the distant sounds of aircraft whizzing about doing displays at an airshow several miles away. We get this a few times a year, and we always end up with having the inevitable "Was that a spitfire or a hurricane?" conversation. Most of the time we can only hear the thing and not see it, which doesn't help.😁

DinoLil · 26/07/2025 15:27

@slightlydistrac You need to download the Flightradar app. Its free and then you can see what's what.

lucysmam · 26/07/2025 15:28

Aw @DilemmaDelilah she's beautiful. My smallest dickhead has just come to pester treats from in exchange for roly-polys on the kitchen floor 🤣. She does it every time someone comes through the door. Don't try to pick her up though...she doesn't like that!

Day 1 of our "typically British" family holiday.

We've just spent 5 hours on the beach in the drizzly / grey weather. To be fair it's not cold at least. And we did have ice cream.

Home for a pit stop / showers / get changed and then out for dinner at a posh fish and chip restaurant overlooking the sea.

Rest of our time away looks similarly grey and damp so we're leaning into it.

DilemmaDelilah · 26/07/2025 16:19

@Crunchymum we took our grandchildren for a beach holiday a couple of years ago and it was seriously hot and dry every day... until the last day. We had gone just a little way down the coast and decided to have fish and chips on the seafront before going all the way home - suddenly the heavens opened! Some of the heaviest rain I have ever seen. We had to make a run for the car and the paper bag our chips were in got so sodden half of them fell out on the way.

Here's hoping that your 'typically British' holiday with the children gets better from now on.

RedRec · 26/07/2025 16:29

I have seen these threads before but never commented on them. Just wanted to say how lovely and wholesome they are compared to some of the shit on here!

I did parkrun marshalling this morning, as I do every Saturday. I get a real buzz from being around happy, cheerful people in a beautiful park. Starts the weekend off perfectly.

Oldraver · 26/07/2025 16:30

Just on the train waiting for it to leave to Tottenham, still no tickets but fingers and everything crossed

CalicoPusscat · 26/07/2025 16:37

The neighbour's cat has been shitting in my bags left out for me to collect today (moving).

Instead of a Saturday relaxing I now have 3 washes to do. And cat shit is not pretty, I screamed.

Otherwise I really would wish everyone a happy Saturday. As it is I'm muttering about it.

daffodilandtulip · 26/07/2025 16:45

I've spent all week between work, catching up from being on holiday, kids have gone to stay with their cousins for a week so I was looking forward to a day of nothing. Which I've done, and quite honestly struggled with 🙈. Life has been manic for ages - working 50+ hours then meetings every night, daughter home from uni, GCSEs for son - that I think I've forgotten how to settle! I've finished my easy holiday book and settled into a new normal murder type book, been on a long dog walk, played music, had both a lie in and a nap, and had an afternoon bath. All of which is normally quite a luxury but I have actually felt a bit bored. Need a plan for tomorrow I think!

I’m at my Dad’s house waiting on one of his legendary fry ups. My DH got extremely drunk last night because his friend was over from Australia. So drunk when I tried to get into bed he said “no I’m married”. This morning I took the kids to see my dad so he could recover.

@Catsandcannedbeans this really made me laugh, bless your DH!

@DilemmaDelilah so sorry you've had to say goodbye to your gorgeous cat.

gingercat02 · 26/07/2025 18:29

@CatsandcannedbeansDH laughed when I read him your post and said at least he said he was married and not "hop in love but don't tell the wife"

We use Flightradar quite a lot actually. It's what comes from living between two airports and near an airfield that has frequent flying displays. I can tell the difference between a Spitfire and a Hurricane easily anyway as long as they are at the right angle of dangle, so to speak.

Oh and - we've just had the RAF making merry in the sky in what I can only describe as a Typhoon, rattling the windows and making all the local dogs bark. My cats all had a WTF expression but remained seated throughout. 😁

Oldraver · 26/07/2025 20:05

We made it and had the most amazing meal and got heated seats 😂
