I've been noticing it for a couple of weeks now. We go swimming at 8pm on a Sunday evening and over the last few months, we had been leaving at 9pm and it was still light but the last couple of times it's been getting dark while we're still swimming. I love it!

The longest day was over a month ago.

This time of year is odd - good weather and ever shorter days. I always wonder why it was never aligned so that our best weather has the longest days!!

Yes, dh commented only yesterday that it was getting dark earlier.
Personally I’m quite looking forward to autumn. Was thinking today about making sure I’ll have enough jars for apple chutney (dd’s windfalls) and Delia’s mincemeat.

I’ve noticed it for the last 2-3 days and I don’t like it!! I want a long, long, long summer. Time goes too fast! I spend so much time in the spring tending to my seedlings, then looking after my garden, looking forward to the vegetable crop…and then it’s all gone 😭. I’ll also have less time now to do things around the house and garden after work

I'm in London and noticing it so much. I like to see out and read 9r go for a stroll of an evening and it's getting quite dim by 9 :( kids have just broken up from school.

Yes, and the horse chestnuts round here have noticed too. A few of them have leaves which are just beginning to turn colour.

I thought this today, a chill on the evening air and the dusk happening sooner. I’ve already turned my mind to autumnal garden tasks.

Yes. I walk my dog in the woods after 8pm and thought I’m going to have to start bringing my head torch.

I hate winter when I can only risk walking around the field in the dark.

We have definitely gone from mid summer to late summer now.

Yes, but it is ever thus. Some of the roses are having their second flush and the hydrangeas have gone over. The dahlias are opening and the hibiscus flowers are dropping. Also agree the horse chestnuts are turning but that is usual.

Not looking forward to the darkness at all. But my god I’ll be glad to see the back of the heat. I’m in Essex and it’s horribly muggy atm. I long for the colder air.

Definitely noticed it here. I like all the seasons in their own way. The only thing I dislike about autumn is the spiders

Im longing to see starry nights and feel a chill in the air. The pp upthread - it already HAS been a long, long summer, at least for us in the south and probably Midlands too, starting in April with a couple of blips but mainly long warm days and long, long days.

I do think the school summer holidays start 3 weeks too late
