Took the Eurostar to Paris last year but this year it's a UK break only.

You don't need to fly. You can use trains.

Denimrules · 14/07/2025 22:14

Pre DC, we would often tag a holiday onto one of DHs work trips. Now DC older, we are beginning to occasionally fo this again. As far as properly separate hols abroad go, we've done this only a handful of times and usually city breaks.

Main hols are uk hills or Cornwall

yfshjj · 14/07/2025 22:20

Yeah, I don't like flying but still go just once a year. We also do caravan holiday and random nights away

LittleCosette · 14/07/2025 22:22

Yes. At least three times a year. We do take the Eurostar sometimes.

ShowOfHands · 14/07/2025 22:23

Apart from one trip to Paris after our eldest finished GCSEs, we have never been abroad for holidays. We travel round the UK instead and won't ever change this.

TheDandyLion · 14/07/2025 22:27

Haven't been overseas since 2010.

ExperiencedTeacher · 14/07/2025 22:28

We mostly do Uk holidays. Kids have been abroad with their dad this year. I’m currently away with them in another part of the Uk. Might do a holiday abroad next year but it’s so expensive!

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/07/2025 22:29

No. I haven’t left the country for 7 years.

ForeverTipsy · 14/07/2025 22:29

We get a flight abroad every other year. UK hols the other years. The older I get the less I like flying tho, so keen to start using the trains and exploring Europe that way in the future.

BlondieMuver · 14/07/2025 22:30

Haven't been abroad since 1994

Davros · 14/07/2025 22:31

I haven’t been abroad since 2019 but there are many reasons and I’ve got less bothered about it over time

Jorvik1978 · 14/07/2025 22:33

We do, apart from COVID years. We bought our campervan 5 years ago so head into Europe (so the dog can come too). DH is European so we also make trips to see friends & family.

Beamur · 14/07/2025 22:34

No. Although we have been abroad this year as a family. DH goes more often due to a hobby and DD had a college trip abroad last year.
Prior to that DD and I went to Sweden without DH a couple of years ago.
As a family our last holiday abroad was 8 years ago. I prefer to stay in the UK as a whole. Dislike flying and how time consuming travelling is.

thisfilmisboring123 · 14/07/2025 22:34

We do.
Really not a fan of flying myself.
Aim for a summer holiday and then a city break usually in December.

StrawberryCranberry · 14/07/2025 22:34

Yes, we go abroad every year. This year we're taking the train there and flying back.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/07/2025 22:35

Abroad every year since maybe 2006

Titasaducksarse · 14/07/2025 22:36

Yes. When I turned 18 I promised myself I'd go abroad every year. That was 30 years ago
One year I didn't or couldn't..probably due to pandemic so the next I went more than once.
To be honest nowadays I go abroad about 3 times a year

BBQBertha · 14/07/2025 22:37

Yes, two or three times. Want the DC to see something of the world!

NCfor24 · 14/07/2025 22:37

Abroad but usually drive via Le Shuttle.
Have been to Spain for a mini break but as a family we've not flown since 2019. We usually have some UK holidays too each year.

FestivusMiracle · 14/07/2025 22:38

We always go abroad. Europe for long weekends, but long haul for main holidays.

burneraccount15 · 14/07/2025 22:38

I try to. We didn't get away for years due to covid and finances but trying to catch up now. We went to Gran Canaria in January 2020 and didn't get away again until this year but we're making up lost time- we did 1 week through Germany by train in April, we've just been to visit DH family in Thailand and we're off to Mexico next April. I really love to travel but for context i drive a 15 year old car and shop in Lidl. If you don't want to or can't go abroad there's nothing wrong with that either.

Amiunemployable · 14/07/2025 22:39

We do but have only started to do so the last three years. This is our third year of going abroad. Couldn't afford it before, really.

We've been to the South of France all three years. Got back three weeks ago. Flew this time. Drove the time before. And flew the time before that.

Am very tempted to book a last min to the balaerics, though. Not keen on flying but I like being away. DH is agog at the thought of a second abroad holiday. Or just a second holiday in general.

notanothernamechangemother · 14/07/2025 22:43

Yes, we fly most years, as we have family who live abroad and usually go to visit them.

3678194b · 14/07/2025 22:46

Yes, but I don't enjoy the mindless and ever increasing time spent queueing and waiting at multiple stages of air travel.

This time we're taking a cruise, no flights involved.

MascaraGirl · 14/07/2025 22:47

Yes, we take 2 overseas breaks per year, to warmer climates. We managed with Cornwall during COVID, and were very lucky with the weather, however a wet week in Tenby finished me off, thankfully the world re-opened and we’ve never looked back!
