Got this from the Ulster News on xitter. Basically it says Thousands march through Manchester for re immigration.
Ulster stands with you.

The Ulster News is ultra right wing and the police estimated it was a crowd of 2000.

So disgusting and saddening - it’s like they’re itching for violence. I read somewhere once that a war is ‘needed’ sort of by nature I think every 100 years - it’s primitive but these saddos are so primitive that maybe it’s true! But whilst they might need one I couldn’t begin to think how most would actively fight one.
I can’t imagine how folk feel to have people March against them for existing, not exactly the best way to integrate everyone is it.
I added my well worn pov on a thread today inspired by the saints of this one! I might just do a doc to copy/paste as no one reads enough of mine to notice this!

MsJinks · 03/08/2025 07:14

@BIossomtoes- separate to my post so it’s not associated with other things - sorry to hear about your husband. Glad it’s caught early and you’re both hopeful- still rubbish for you both. Look after yourselves and thinking of you.

BIossomtoes · 03/08/2025 08:05

Thank you MsJinks. It is rubbish but it could be so much worse so we’re both grateful it was caught so early. My Pollyanna face is getting lots of use right now.

I was appalled yesterday at what a cesspit MN is at the moment. You deserve a medal @PandoraSocks.

PickAChew · 03/08/2025 08:47

I've only been periodically lurking for a few days, @BIossomtoes as I have spent Yorkshire day (and the rest of the weekend but that wasn't the reason I came) down in Yorkshire but I wish you both all the best Flowers

I'm having to do a lot of poker face irl with people I don't want to get into it with.

I probably need a slap round the head for not just leaving the thread!

As someone else said, it is a shame some of the decent Tory posters had vanished. There were disagreements of course and sometimes a bit of rudeness, but nothing like the utter nastiness of some of the current crop.

It reminds me of when Johnson kicked out all of the decent One Nation Tories resulting in the, shall we say, less palatable elements running amok. I have that photo of Bravaman laughing in Rwanda and the one of JRM asleep on benches in my mind's eye as I write this.

Eta: I know we are all strangers on the Internet, but we are all here for you if you need to drop the Pollyanna face for a bit and have a vent or whatever here xx

DuncinToffee · 03/08/2025 09:14

I'll have a look for your post MsJinks.

I have stuck to the one thread and that one has calmed down after some swift deletions

Thank you Pandora. I don’t think I’ll be doing much venting here, there are too many lurkers!

I remember having a very civilised discussion with Xenia once which we concluded by agreeing that we’d always be poles apart politically but would happily have a glass of wine together and talk about other things. I don’t blame posters like her for disappearing, they have as much in common with some of the current right wingers as I do.

cardibach · 03/08/2025 09:21

This is a fascinating read about the current feeling of simmering hopelessness. Not massively encouraging though…
Edit: not sure why the link is so long! It’s a Guardian article

I kind of miss the days when 'knowing what a woman is' was the single issue and Partygate was just a piece of cake.

Thank you for that. I’ve just bought the book for my son, it echoes a lot of the things he’s been saying for a long time now.

bombastix · 03/08/2025 10:36

From my perspective I would be gloomy but not surprised. The fact that there are people in Reform who are pro repatriation (and generational tests) does not surprise me. This has always been an element in British society that liked this idea, mostly the BNP and NF supporters. I can still remember those people from 25 years ago.

For these people no intergration or citizenship can ever be conferred. They will decide.

I think that was the most laughable and disturbing element of the last Government. That there is some distinct British nature that can be conferred along with a passport. When you look at the supporters of Brexit, it’s an odd dynamic of people who had a desire to exclude migration and also some people who felt there was too much EU migration and some Commonwealth countries should be favoured. These two groups are not compatible in real life. We are seeing the slow fall out of this multicultural alliance and it will be very ugly. We do not call what happened last year race riots. But when you look at what actually happened, that is what it looks like.

I do not think this Labour government will manage this on the old politics of multiculturalism. This argument is failing.

bombastix · 03/08/2025 11:22

This will happen I think; the digital ID. I never thought it would happen before because of the inability of the British state to coordinate information. But it seems to me that is now really possible, and the government will like the ancillary benefits such as er being able to administer benefits payments, and use AI on your bank account if you receive them….
