Party financed by fossil fuel industry declares war on net zero.

Tice and Jenkyns seen pressing the old post delete button.

What did they delete?

SerendipityJane · 01/08/2025 10:44

Reform come third in Dagenham and Barking by-election

Quite a nice spread of results.

Tories last (as expected. They condemned themselves to oblivion by chasing Brexit. If they weren't warned I'd feel sorrt).

Reform last but one. A credible protest vote considering no one knows what they would actually do.

Greens second. Suggesting people feel there may be something more to climate change than hearing people say it's not a thing.

And (almost naturally) Labour win.

If anyone wants to plop that into one of the Reform-arslikhan threads, I'm sure I can convert it to primary colour pictures.

Holmes is a big fan of tommy and far right x accounts.

Well didn't do him much good then.

It's clear that Reform are supplanting the Tories in some demographics - what I suspect would have been classed in the past as "working class Tories".

Also, if I were a younger person ... given the choice between an untried and tested Reform party, or the patently corrupt venal incompetent self serving and proven catastrophuck that is the Tory party then why in the name of all that is holy would I support the party that celebrated shafting 15 years of my youth ?

At the end of June, foreign nationals made up 10% of the sentenced prison population in England and Wales, a little less than their share of the adult population (12%).

New MoJ data shows how that differs by offence type.

The frothers will have fun explaining how the violent crime and general thuggery seems to be a disproportionately British thing.

Platosrevenge · 01/08/2025 12:05

I’ve already posted about this on a thread of its own, didn’t get many takers 😂 but thought I’d repeat it here ! We had a really positive experience with the NHS today. Spoke to a friend about the rapidity of our NHS referral and treatment (my DS, not me). She felt the same way, knew a few people who’d been impressed with their treatment etc. It’s so easy to believe some of the stuff on SM, everything doom and gloom, Reform riding high etc, but with NHS hopefully, Labour is managing to turn things round bit by bit. (And I’m a nurse so generally pretty cynical about the whole institution)…

countrygirl99 · 01/08/2025 12:29

DH has had a few issues in the last 12 months and they've all been dealt with really efficiently.

My 10 PALS issues in the past two years does rather counter that.

I now know that the SOP is to address the complaint (so as to shut them up) and then swerve fixing the issue.

The last one I had an entire ophthalmology suite to myself because I complained about distractions when i was dong the field tests (I heard another patients personal details as they were checking them in). That "solves" the issue and they closed my case. Ignoring the points I raised that (a) this is unsuitable for everyone (none of my business) and (b) the risk to confidentiality (apparently they've been on a course).

The clinical care in the NHS - on the rare occasions you see it - is flawless. However as an organisation serving the public, they suck. Big time.

And don't get me started on test results that can't be exchanged between different departments (let alone hospitals and trusts). That's a rant in itself.

The Times is feeding it today, 'confusing' foreign-born with foreigners

Yet they presumably happily cheer on sports men and women who compete for Great Britain but never even went to school here.

BestIsWest · 01/08/2025 13:11

Our local A&E seem to have made a remarkable turn around in wait times. When DM was admitted in February after a fall she spent the night in an ambulance - it was preferable to spending the time inside the department, I walked through to use the loo and it was like a battle zone. She had superb care all the same.

My bloke’s just received a cancer diagnosis. It was diagnosed three weeks ago at an early stage via the regular monitoring he gets for a long term condition. It’s anticipated that he’ll have surgery within the next three weeks, so that’s six weeks in all. It’s been faultless. He has access to all his test results via an app. I guess it helps that we live near one of the best teaching hospitals in the country but the NHS can’t be faulted in this instance.

PandoraSocks · 01/08/2025 13:21

Oh no @blossomtoes . I hope you are OK. Please give your bloke my best wishes xx

BIossomtoes · 01/08/2025 13:28

Thank you Pandora. He’s been lucky, it’s been diagnosed early and is still small, it hasn’t spread so the news is as good as it can possibly be. We’ll both be very pleased once the surgery is over.

DuncinToffee · 01/08/2025 13:37

Best wishes to you both Blossom

countrygirl99 · 01/08/2025 14:07

DH's nephews has recently been diagnosed with cancer. Sadly not a great outlook due to type and position but from the first symptom taking him to a&e, through scans etc to very complicated surgery in a national specialist unit was less than 6 weeks.

Evenstar · 01/08/2025 14:28

Best wishes @BIossomtoes 💐

Glad to hear that things are improving with health care, I hope eventually things will improve in GP practices, as if mine is anything to go by many people are not able to access health care due to being unable to make that initial appointment with a GP

BIWI · 01/08/2025 14:36

Sorry to hear that news @BIossomtoes but very good to hear that his treatment/experience so far has been positive. Very best of luck.

My own experience of the NHS was just over 18 months ago, and it was exemplary. We need to talk more about the positives, I think.

ilovesooty · 01/08/2025 15:18

@BIossomtoes I'm sorry to hear that. Best wishes to you both.

placemats · 01/08/2025 15:24

Good to know it's been caught early and swiftly dealt with @BIossomtoes 💐.

I do manage to get through to my GP surgery but it's a three week wait for me as it's non urgent but it's been urgent before and was seen the next day.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 01/08/2025 15:24

Really sorry to hear that @BIossomtoes - best wishes and fingers crossed for your DH and you.

SerendipityJane · 01/08/2025 15:27

The clinical side is without compare. It's everything else that let's it down.

Best wishes to each and all who are in need of attention and those that love them, by the way - it's always in my mind when I read stories here, even if I don't post to each one. Consider this an unmumsnetty hug.💟
