The wait before surgery is very hard @BIossomtoes Sending you and your DH all best wishes.

Yet they presumably happily cheer on sports men and women who compete for Great Britain but never even went to school here.

Also makes you wonder if they know what Mo is short for

All the very best to your OH, @blossomtoes, and I'm glad the NHS is working for him.

Just caught up and hoping all goes well with your partners treatment @BIossomtoes

Also came to moan 😬
I am really sad to see the increase in racism disguised as concern. I absolutely understand people have concerns about their localities re infrastructure, services etc and I am very sorry that there have been some awful crimes committed ( crime happens sadly)
BUT this hate on social media from agitators with blue ticks posting pictures of 1950s London and those utterly awful people that bang on hotel doors and film whilst spouting some ridiculous shit about “it’s got a C1 licence so it’s a hotel I will come in” make me very uncomfortable.
AND don’t get me started on the batshit posts and the GBNEWS pearl clutching posts ( my town FB is full of them)
The “ love to family, Colin “ on my FB the other day…
Colin: Veterans getting evicted from supported accommodation - this government’s fault / putting illegals in blah, blah, fucking blah.

I ask: is it a s21 as very sadly people get no fault evictions every day. You will be glad when Angela stops them then?
Colin: no, you tool. it’s the fucking council.
me: Councils don’t generally hold stock ( cos you know they were all sold) and it’s supported accommodation so it’s the landlord who issues a notice.
Colin’s mate: the government are offering so much money so the landlords can’t resist.
me: oh so you are protesting against landlords making more money and throwing veterans out?
mate and Colin: no it’s fucking Starmers fault!
Commie bastard.
me: night then
story ( as far as I know ) is the housing provider of flats has asked council for non capped Housing benefits, council had Q’s about support and costs. Appeal gone in. This is the second HP of flats since they opened.
I have never heard Colin, his mates or GB News worry about section 21 notices before. They were rightly concerned that these veterans have PTSD. So do women and children who have fled abuse and get a S21 too Colin you utter knobber!
Apologies for my outburst 🙈

Also not letting Starmer off as I still think this was a rubbish move

Braverman is going to re-write the Good Friday Agreement, Farage is going to send the worst criminals to El Salvador.

Media just nods

Braverman is willing up hatred left right and centre (literally!) here with projects and is currently being held to account by a Borough Council for blatant lies.

Her latest tagline is immigration is out of control because Labour scrapped the Rwanda plan. Oh yeah - the 200 asylum seekers going to Rwanda who now aren’t are the problem. 🙄

I’m really finding it depressing currently how much Reform speak I’m hearing out and about in general (beach, town, supermarket etc) instead of the usual nonsense chat. It’s scary.

But if anything it’s pushing me further left from my usual centric position and I can only hope it’s doing the same to many others.

If I hear the phrase “the immigrants” one more time I may not be responsible for my actions.

itsgettingweird · 02/08/2025 07:08

Sorry to hear about DH Blossomtoes wishing him a speedy recovery.

Saucery · 02/08/2025 07:22

Hoping for the best outcome for your DH @BIossomtoes . Agree with all the above posters who said when the NHS works (clinically) it works really well. I recently had appalling service swiftly followed by excellent service for a condition and a dreadful GP that I changed for a brilliant one. I’m gobby quick to stand up for the service I know I should be receiving, with family in quite senior NHS roles, but I do worry about people who don’t know the system as well as I do, or can’t advocate for themselves/ have people to help.

Reform Council discovering that, surprise, surprise! people care about roads and local services more than they care about ‘immigrants’. Locals are also getting pissed off that the Reform representative speaks through a third party to address any criticism on social media. Of course, it appears to be entirely the fault of previous Council, despite things like Highways presumably being staffed by the same people as before - much muttering about Reform telling them to use the cheapest quick fix.

LlynTegid · 02/08/2025 08:42

Sending best wishes to @BIossomtoes and agreeing that the issues with the NHS are largely away from the front line clinicians.

Zonder · 02/08/2025 08:43

Sorry to hear about your bloke @BIossomtoes I hope the treatment goes smoothly

I've been staying off the politics threads for a while. I'm so disheartened by the current state of affairs and had hoped for so much more. I'm still happier to have Labour in than any other current party but it's not what I expected. I haven't even been watching as much news and am thinking of changing my MN username to something ostrich related.

I get that - it’s where I’m at. I spent a week in Sheffield with Ds at British champs and took that opportunity to avoid any politics. I didn’t come here either but that was mostly tome
constraints but it was also food to avoid politics totally for a while.

Did miss the thread though!

DuncinToffee · 02/08/2025 09:45

Not much has changed on MN politically, it just switched from tory to reform.

I think it has changed recently. There’s virtually no reasoned, intelligent debate any more and the rudeness and name calling are next level now. A lot of credible long standing right wing posters have disappeared; Clav for example rarely makes an appearance. It’s a real shame.

DuncinToffee · 02/08/2025 09:58

It's the Reform way.

The name calling has certainly increased.

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 02/08/2025 11:04

It’s not just name calling, it’s next level drama llama theatrics. Telegraph headlines in action. We are all doomed! civil service internships are akin to communism! Etc

DuncinToffee · 02/08/2025 11:09

Lol, it's indeed post a Telegraph/DM headline and run with it.

Here is another follower to add, Ant Middleton. He wants to ban 1st. 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants from holding top tier government positions.

He wants to be the Reform candidate for mayor of London
