Which celebrity’s death do you feel shocked at?

I would probably say Robin Williams. Which is probably an obvious one. George Micheal and Bowie also.

thats disappointing to hear, I was a huge VW fan. What did she do/say @MemorableTrenchcoat ?

It was a long time ago now, but she was just constantly surly with everyone. I think part of the issue was that the 5 star hotels in the area were all fully-booked, and she ended up in a 4 star one. It was still a very good hotel, but not up to her usual standard.

Princess Diana and Paula Yates. I loved them both

SecondStarOnTheRight · 30/06/2025 18:39

Paul Cattermole

Paul O'Grady
Steve Irwin

Girlking · 30/06/2025 18:39

Princess Diana. Peaches Geldof, Sinead O’ Connor 🥲

Kimwestonhelpless · 30/06/2025 18:40

Terry hall ..the specials.
Edwin Starr.. Northern soul royalty.

itsgettingweird · 30/06/2025 18:41

Princess Diana and Matthew Perry.

others surprised me but when I thought about it I suspected there would have been drink and drugs involved - which was usually the case.

Ilovemyshed · 30/06/2025 18:42

Shocked and saddened: Sir David Amess who was a true gent and a decent MP.

Saddened by Patrick Swayze and Sean Locke.

Clafoutie · 30/06/2025 18:43

Not shocked, but definitely saddened - Amy Whitehouse

I still feel she was a once in a generation talent. I watched the brilliant documentary on her ( not the film!) and felt a bit shattered at the end of it. It was all just so sad.

MyKingdomForACat · 30/06/2025 18:44

David Bowie
Paul O’Grady

Yes, and I was extremely shocked, saddened and horrified at the murder of Jo Cox. I still think about her.

Firefly1987 · 30/06/2025 18:45

I forgot Luke Perry-that was a shock for sure, well hearing he'd had a stroke (he didn't die for a few days IIRC) so sad.

SerafinasGoose · 30/06/2025 18:46

Unsurprised to see Rik Mayall mentioned quite a number of times upthread. This is the one that most affected me. To this day, if I'm having a rough day a rewatch of my old Comic Strip or Bottom box sets never fails to lift my mood. That silly brand of comedy somehow makes me feel all is safe and good with the world, which makes it harder to take in the fact that he's no longer in it.

I was also very saddened about Kirsty MacColl and Lisa Marie Presley. And, although she lived to be a grand old age, Doris Day.

Springsprung00 · 30/06/2025 18:47

Helen McCrory

BebbanburgIsMine · 30/06/2025 18:47

Bobbi Kristina Brown

I am no fan of Whitney Houston, but her daughter died so young, and in nearly identical circumstances.

Just a waste of such a young life.

londongirl12 · 30/06/2025 18:47

Michael Jackson and Matthew Perry.

Grinchybinchy · 30/06/2025 18:48

MrsEndeavourMorse · 30/06/2025 18:49

Kristian Digby

Terry Hall 💔

Prince 💔

MaryTheTurtle · 30/06/2025 18:49

I was sad when Christopher Lee died he seemed to be gentleman

Scout2016 · 30/06/2025 18:50

River Pheonix and Kurt Cobain in my teens. River especially barely had chance to get started.
Sinéad O'Connor. Went for a walk in the rain and had a little weep about her. Bit melodrama I know but God so cathartic. Feel like she would have approved!
Pete Postletwaite, Jeremy Hardy, Liz Smith, Victoria Wood. I think they were one offs too and there's no one like them.
Sad about but not shocked Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, Prince.

mambojambodothetango · 30/06/2025 18:51

Not a celebrity as in a household name, but I was a big fan of jazz pianist Esbjorn Svensson - saw his band live several times. He died in a scuba diving accident in his early 40s. I was properly shocked at that because I'd seen him perform and listened to his music regularly.

Scout2016 · 30/06/2025 18:51

Oh god yeah, River Mayall. Again, no one close to that. It was sad hearing from Aidrian Edmondson about how his personality changed in later years.

TheAlertCrow · 30/06/2025 18:52

Steve Irwin
Amy Winehouse
Alan Rickman

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 30/06/2025 18:52

I’m still gutted about George Michael’s death, bless him.

What a wonderful man he was.

Dominoeffecter · 30/06/2025 18:53

OneCosyCrow · 30/06/2025 17:36

I find it disgusting how people joke about her death

What do they say?? I’ve never seen a joke about it.
