Celebrity deaths that shocked you

Which celebrity’s death do you feel shocked at?

I would probably say Robin Williams. Which is probably an obvious one. George Micheal and Bowie also.

Steve Harley because he was so positive about his illness that I thought he knew he'd get better.
HM Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip's deaths made me very sad.

Very sad about Amy Winehouse, what a waste

Shetlands · 30/06/2025 18:06

Victoria Wood - same age as me and my favourite comedian and performer. Nobody could make me laugh like she did and I also loved her poignant portrayals of various characters eg the woman who kept a diary during WW2.

I feel the loss of all the things she would have created had she not died too soon.

I punched my husband in the face once. He went to the social and told them I was violent and unstable. The fact that it happened after 18 years of narcissistic abuse didn’t matter. I was a violent spouse. Nobody knows the truth. As a side note, I’m 5 foot and 48kg. My H is 6 foot and 90kg. Women can’t inflict much damage. He almost killed me when he pushed me away after I went for him. I had a broken shoulder and bruises all over me. Yet I was the violent one. I feel desperately sorry for her.

You were the violent one! It doesn’t matter how big he is or that he injured you by pushing you away, you were the instigator

Shocked about Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, I mean logically she was at raised risk probably, but I'd been watching all her tv shows and really liked her.

Sad about Douglas Adams, it's a terrible shame he didn't live to witness - and maybe even contribute to - all the recent advances in technology.

shivermetimbers77 · 30/06/2025 18:07

Robin Williams, definitely

ItsUpToYou · 30/06/2025 18:07

Pop Smoke. 😞

Strawberrypicnic · 30/06/2025 18:07

Caroline Flack was truly shocking.

WiddlinDiddlin · 30/06/2025 18:07

Victoria Wood really got to me - I identified very closely with her, coming from the same town, she often referenced stuff that was super familiar to me, and she just had soooooooo much more to do and say. She was also a lovely, very private and yet very generous person.

Robin Williams, Kurt Cobain, both affected me a fair bit for different reasons.

Rik Mayall... thats probably the most recent biggy, I can't quite get my head around how someone so THERE...can ... not be there any more.

MemorableTrenchcoat · 30/06/2025 17:38

You realise he was a kiddie-fiddler?

Oh God, why use that phrase? It's bloody awful and really denigrates an awful situation.

PsychoHotSauce · 30/06/2025 18:07

Rik Mayall Sad Can't believe it's been 11 years!

Keith Flint, John Peele, George Michael, Britanny Murphy, Prince, Kurt Cobain, Diana

Edited

How did I not get the memo that Keith Flint had died?? I live in Canada, but still...

SweetcornFritter · 30/06/2025 18:10

Lennon, Diana, Bowie. All deaths made me cry, a lot.

JustPinkFinch · 30/06/2025 18:10

Many already mentioned including Caroline Flack.

But also James Gandolfini who was by all accounts a lovely LOVELY man.

SantaToSSD · 30/06/2025 18:11

Shocked would have to be Diana. Most people old enough can tell you what they were doing when they heard about her death.

Saddest for me would be George Michael. I wasn't a fan as such but he definitely died too young and in sad circumstances. I still remember him every Christmas.

Also Heath Ledger's death was very sad. I couldn't stop thinking about it for ages.

viques · 30/06/2025 18:11

So surprised to see people shocked and amazed at the deaths of people who openly took quantities of illegal drugs and/or heavily abused alcohol and often lived erratic and unstable lives and took risks with their own and other’s wellbeing.

For some of them the only surprise is that they managed to live so long. Not naming names, and I am sorry for their families and close friends who mourn them.

PluckyBamboo · 30/06/2025 18:11

Diana, Princess of Wales was a shocker and obviously very tragic as she had a young family. The crazy reaction to it by people who didn't know her was batshit though.

Patrick Swayze, not a shock as he had a terminal illness but incredibly sad.

Jade Goody, she wasn't my kind of person but so tragic with her boys being as young and life doesn't seem to have worked out well for at least one of them.

Stephen Gately, this coincided with the death of a family member who had lived to a really old age as nature intended which at the time made it feel all the more tragic with him being so young.

Elizabeth the Queen Mum, wasn't expecting it and the media obviously had no idea unlike now when they're hanging around like vulchers.

I dealt with Victoria Wood a few times, in a hospitality setting. She was definitely not lovely to me or my colleagues. I was really quite taken aback.

Redheadedstepchild · 30/06/2025 18:12

Delores O'Riordan.

clarepetal · 30/06/2025 18:13

Rik Mayall. Way too young.
