Celebrity deaths that shocked you

Which celebrity’s death do you feel shocked at?

I would probably say Robin Williams. Which is probably an obvious one. George Micheal and Bowie also.

It’s sad, but I think a lot of people forget she battered her partner. I wonder if everyone would have been just as sad if it was her partner battering her and he died. I feel sorry for her family but she should’ve gone to prison.

It is sad she took her own life but didn't she hit him round the head so hard he was covered in blood and rang the police thinking she was trying to kill him? She was charged with and going to be prosecuted for assault.

Doesnt stop me feeling sad. She checked his phone, perhaps found evidence of cheating and lashed out. Anyone can mess up. She was such a happy bubbly fun person and in what seemed a fairly short space of time she just completley hit rock bottom. Her friend left her for minutes and came back and she had killed herself. So tragic.

I’m sure you’d be just as fine if your husband checked your phone, lashed out and smacked you over the head with a lamp.

Newgolddream70 · 30/06/2025 17:50

Shocked - Diana. It was so out of the blue.

Saddened - Patrick Swayze, I loved him.

I hear what you’re saying, but if a woman posted on MN that her boyfriend had gone through her phone and then ‘lashed out’, posters would be up in arms.

Death doesn’t redeem people for the bad things they did.
The whole story was toxic and sad, and of course, suicide is always shocking. It’s very final and hard to come to terms with.

Peaches Geldof! I was early 20s and had a toddler boy similar age to her two, I followed her on Instagram and always looked at all her day-to-day photos with her little boys. I hadn’t been online that day and clearly remember walking into Tesco and seeing the headline on the newspapers and just feeling completely shocked.

Robin Williams one was a bit strange as we’d watched the Family Guy episode featuring him on BBC3 before bed then woken up to the news he’d passed.

JohnTheRevelator · 30/06/2025 17:51

George Michael and David Bowie. Also Phil Lynott back in 1986 as I'd been a huge Thin Lizzy fan in my teens.

You don’t know that. He was a grifter, at best. That’s a horrible post.

Err. She was charged.

Which bit shocked you? The bit where she was charged with domestic abuse?

The double standards when it comes to that woman are incredible.

It was a very tragic case and resulted in a young woman killing herself. Tragic all round.

I am a recovering addict (not heroin) and can’t get over how she slept in the same bed as her sons while using.

Well yes, I quite agree. I was trying to be empathetic and all that jazz, but how you said it was much better. Absolutely feel the same.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 30/06/2025 17:53

Michael Hutchence
Heath Ledger

Both really talented. Very sad.

ScratCat · 30/06/2025 17:53

Princess Di was a shock.

LadyGAgain · 30/06/2025 17:53

Shocked - Princess Diana. I was 19 and woke up to the news.

Steve Irwin also shocked and saddened me. He was an inspiration.

i was gutted when George Michael died. All that talent, a voice of gold and what he did silently for charity showed his huge heart.

Edited

Well I'm sad at her suicide I'm not making comment about whether or not if a man hit a woman people would be up in arms or not. That's a separate issue.

How many women in the UK are murdered in domestic violence incidents yearly? Violence in relationships is never ok.

Jujujudo · 30/06/2025 17:55

Freddie Mercury, Prince, Stephen Gately, Victoria Wood

TheCountessofLocksley · 30/06/2025 17:56

Kurt Cobain, Prince, George Michael - such talent.

strangely, Diana, Princess of Wales. I’m not a fan or a conspiracist, but hearing that news just stopped me in my tracks.

I punched my husband in the face once. He went to the social and told them I was violent and unstable. The fact that it happened after 18 years of narcissistic abuse didn’t matter. I was a violent spouse. Nobody knows the truth. As a side note, I’m 5 foot and 48kg. My H is 6 foot and 90kg. Women can’t inflict much damage. He almost killed me when he pushed me away after I went for him. I had a broken shoulder and bruises all over me. Yet I was the violent one. I feel desperately sorry for her.
