Celebrity deaths that shocked you

Which celebrity’s death do you feel shocked at?

I would probably say Robin Williams. Which is probably an obvious one. George Micheal and Bowie also.

You think physical abuse is a sign of 'passion'? I'm sorry to hear that.

I mean both volatile characters, so obviously the relationship was fired up. That was their choice. I know a few couples this way inclined. Its not my taste but both as bad as each other

I'm glad domestic abuse is not to your taste.

Whitney wasnt really the angel she was portrayed to be - Clive Davis manufactured her image when actually she was from the hood like say Mary J Blige. The same Clive Davis who went ahead with his party in the hotel where she died that same day. There's a lot of rumours about him being at the top of this pyramid of abuse of artists. Re Whitney - at the time, Bobby Brown was a massive star and they were well matched due to where they were from. I would however say that i wonder whether if she knew the repercussions of her death on both her 'step' son and her daughter, whether she would have got help earlier. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Interesting, and maybe still just as sad. She did have amazing talent

Diana and Amy winehouse.
Often wonder why she didn’t put her seat belt on.

I remember feeling sad about Chester Bennington.

I listened to Linkin Park a lot in my teenage years & had their album on repeat most days.
If one of their songs comes on the radio now, I do feel, a sort of, not sadness as such, but an emotion of nostalgia? I’m not sure.

Liam Paynes death I thought was sad, in the way it happened, the run up to it, the last pictures of him in the hotel. I felt sad for his family and young son. There was a real media circus around it.

Chadwick Boseman.
Such a dignified & talented man in his prime.

Rik Mayall - I cried and cried when he died. Grew up watching Bottom and drop dead fred, and still do to this day. I loved him.

Marco Simoncelli - Moto GP rider, I watched the race he died in and can still see the images of his girlfriend and his father in the garage in pit lane, crying. He was such a character.

Layne Stayley
Chris Cornell
Scott Weiland

Sadly, so many ‘celebrities’ must feel that they can deal with the effects of drugs, and that they will beat the statistics. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter how rich and famous you are, your physical and mental health will suffer, and therefore a premature death is very common amongst drug users.

If Diana had been wearing her seatbelt, she would almost certainly have survived.

I´m not sure about "almost certainly", the bodyguard survived because he was wearing a seatbelt AND because he was as strong as an ox, and he has lifelong body damage due to the accident.

His body injuries would probably have been exacerbated by being hit from behind by an unrestrained passenger, most likely Diana herself.

Alan Rickman :(

As this thread shows, talent is no guarantee of personal behaviour.

Kirsty MacColl

Agreed

Andoutcomethewolves · 02/07/2025 16:53

For me, Amy Winehouse. I was at a rave pretty fucked up and they announced her death at about 6am on the loudspeaker.

Also Bradley (lead singer of Sublime)

I mean certain sickos still mourn Rolf Harris so it doesn’t surprise me

David Bowie slept with a 13 year old but people mourn him.

Roxy69 · 02/07/2025 20:11

Shocked by Princess Diana certainly.
Saddened by Freddie Mercury because he was so innovative and we would have had more wonderful music.

Ownedbykitties · 02/07/2025 20:22

John Lennon

John Lennon. I was leaving for work when the news came through. Spent the day driving in cold sleety conditions, visiting customers, and all were in shock. A strange day.

Yes. Huge shock. 😭

Paul o’Grady. I felt genuine sadness as he always seemed such a lovely and kind person.

Oh Paul O'Grady. I was very shocked and sad too

OneTwinklyCrab · 03/07/2025 06:16

Emma Chambers, she played Alice Tinker in the The Vicar of Dibley.

I was quite shocked at this one. Such a huge reminder that asthma can kill for all of us not taking it as seriously as we should.

FancyOliveHiker · 03/07/2025 06:28

The most shocking death to me was Jill Dando being murdered. Aaaa

FancyOliveHiker · 03/07/2025 06:31

Ignore the Aaaa as that was accidentally typed.

Americano75 · 03/07/2025 10:23
