Celebrity deaths that shocked you

Which celebrity’s death do you feel shocked at?

I would probably say Robin Williams. Which is probably an obvious one. George Micheal and Bowie also.

So many of the people already mentioned. Especially Alan Rickman, Victoria Wood and Rik Mayall.

Also Charlotte Coleman.

Fernticket · 01/07/2025 17:21

Forgot Steve Irwin😔
Charlotte Coleman.
Caroline Ahern. A poster up thread said how she died alone. I read somewhere that she didn't want anyone with her when she died.

I will never get over Steve Irwin

I was about to say him. I was really shocked and the way he died was so sad. He had a lovely family and such an inspiration to kids.

smilingontheinside · 01/07/2025 19:03

Memorabletrenchcoat that was never proven and personally I don't think it was true. The man was super talented, awesome live and spent time with younger people because he missed out on so much of his childhood being a big earner for his pushy father. There are famous people that I called out for being paedophiles/sex offenders etc and was right, never felt that about MJ. I was sad about Glen Frey having seen him/ The Eagles live several times. Shocked at Liam Payne's death and Steven Gately as so young.

JFK jnr

Lincslady53 · 01/07/2025 19:10

John Lennon. I was leaving for work when the news came through. Spent the day driving in cold sleety conditions, visiting customers, and all were in shock. A strange day.

mathanxiety · 01/07/2025 19:13

YYY to Dermot Morgan.

Also Sinead O'Connor.

RIP both.

restingbitchface30 · 01/07/2025 19:23

Only 2 celeb deaths have made me bawl like a baby, Michael Jackson and Taylor Hawkins. I was inconsolable for days when Michael died. And do not come at me with kiddie fiddler bollocks. And as a huge Foo fighters fan I was a wreck after Taylor passed.

Kirsty MacColl

Agreed, such a needless loss of life.

LouiseK93 · 01/07/2025 19:36

Heath Ledger and Steve Irwin

Genuine question, do you not believe the people who came forward or can you seperate the artist and the crime.

I always liked his music and assumed he was a very damaged person, but I can’t listen to him now

You realise he was a kiddie-fiddler?

never proven

Was it proven with Jimmy Savile?

It’s sad, but I think a lot of people forget she battered her partner. I wonder if everyone would have been just as sad if it was her partner battering her and he died. I feel sorry for her family but she should’ve gone to prison.

I wonder this too!
There was a documentary about this sometime ago - I didn’t watch it but I think the angle was ‘mental illness’ succumbing to fame and how hard it is to live in the spot light… nothing about the physical abuse towards her partner at the time.

Youdidnotfindme · 01/07/2025 20:00

I am very conflicted on MJ. I don't know if anybody saw the documentary on him where the rumoured victim described in detail how MJ abused him. I don't know what sort of person could sit and lie about something like that.

Just a fully grown man sleeping with little boys, nice and normal. He was clearly a massive nonce, god rest his soul though 🙄

IsThistheMiddleofNowhere · 01/07/2025 20:14

Shocked - Princess Diana. I was glued to the TV all day in disbelief
Sad - Chester Bennington. I bawled my eyes out for about a week

Rob Burrow

Oh yes. I’m a massive Rhinos fan and Rob was always my favourite. And such a cruel way to die 😫

Another shocking one, although not someone who was superstar famous was Laura Sadler. Mainly as she was so young and it was an accident that could have been avoided, but also because she died in similar circumstances to her character in Grange Hill which was a bit spooky.

Princess Diana and George Michael are probably the ‘I remember where I was’ ones for me.

Liam Payne is probably the most recent one. Shocking because of what happened and that photos of his dead body were on twitter within minutes. So awful for his family.

Well come on that won't cover everything in the documentary

SerendipityJane · 01/07/2025 20:50

There was a bit of a stir when Princess Grace died, as I recall too. Meant nothing to me, but DM was shocked.

It was a one off incident. She thought her partner was cheating on her and she threw her phone at her sleeping partner. He showed photo of his head where the phone hit him and there was hardly any sign of an injury. She was found covered in her own blood, presumably she had just self harm. We will never know what the outcome of the trial would had been. If she was found guilty, it doesn't mean she would had received a prison sentence. The partner never supported the court case to happen.
