DD survived the bachelorette do and is looking forward to the wedding in a few weeks. The entire wedding party have known each other for many years.

Deathray I hope the council will find you a place. Fingers crossed.

MissC sorry if I missed it, but is there an update on the AC situation?

We are expecting an extreme heat event on Wednesday and Thursday, grrrr.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/07/2025 07:06

Had the dc out at Spanish Banks tonight. I saw three brief flashes of lightning as I drove home.
Off to bed now. 😴

Math, glad your dd survived. 😊

Well I tag the council. before sending off the form as it said if you are homeless ring us so I did and was told I need to fill in the form....So I tried but the first question asked for my registration number. I am not a council tenant so do not have a number. I rang back to be told oh ignore it, scroll down to the end where it says if you do not have a registration number just ignore. Of course it did not say that at all. THe porter who does all the magic for me like scanning etc etc agreed it did not say that at all. My third phone call confirmed I would get nowhere with them and the bloke said he would put me back in touch with housing. Thanks a lot!

At a friends suggestion I rang citizens advice to get an appointment to be told she would put me through to housing. Unfortunately by housing she meant the council. By this time I was getting weepy so hung up. All the places like Crisis and shelter et al just refer you to the council.

Well I have to wait to hear from the housing people.....

My Universal credit was shut down as I had not completely understood the commitments. I had asked in my journal three times for clarification and phoned as well and got nowhere so I start today with a fresh claim. I dont need to send the medical form off yet and she has attached the doctors letter re my health so I have to wait for someone to contact me where I guess I get assessed. I am 65 now so only got til January then I am pensionable! I have incontinence, rheumatoid arthritis, Narcolepsy, very high blood pressure, heart failure. diabetes type 2. Also very depressed.

Oh well onwards and upwards!

I

MissConductUS · 22/07/2025 16:46

Deathray, I'm so sorry to hear you've been having so much trouble accessing benefits. Hang in there until you can claim your pension.

Math, sorry for the lack of AC update. It was still short cycling over the weekend, but not as badly as before. DH had the bloke come back yesterday, and he found another change needed to be made to the new circuit board to increase the fan speed. He also said that there was a valve that should be replaced, but when DH called the company this morning they said that there was nothing in his notes about that. The system doesn't seem to be short cycling at this point, but we need to keep an eye on it.

We also had the plumber come out yesterday while waiting for the the HVAC tech. We've had a problem with our water pressure. When you turn the tap on, it's fine for a minute or two, then gradually fades down to much lower than normal. This is particularly annoying in the shower and when using the hose to water the garden or the plants on the deck. The plumber said that we need to replace our pressure reduction valve, which lowers the pressure of the water from the town's water main to a lower pressure for use in the house. DH recalled that we had to replace it shortly after buying the house in 2003, so it's over twenty years old at this point. He's sending someone over Thursday afternoon to do this. I'll work from home that day.

I was looking out of the kitchen window and saw this large spiderweb between the outside wall and the eves. So we're surrounded by spiders and snakes, which reminded me of this pop song from the 1970s.

mathanxiety · 23/07/2025 02:46

Deathray how maddening. I'm thinking of you and sincerely hope you'll get the answers you're hoping for soon.

MissC it sounds as if the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing with the AC.

Stunning photo, havoc.

I'm sitting watching a PBS documentary on Leonardo DaVinci and Michaelangelo. I had no idea they lived through such interesting times.

Umanresources · 23/07/2025 11:55

@Deathraystare gosh I hope you get somewhere soon with your job and house hunting. I really feel for you. It's so demoralising when you come up against brick walls.

I've been doing a bit of watercolour painting. I've got two courses that I'm enrolled on and I prevaricate so much, that it gets to be late afternoon and the light isn't a good. I think my grandsons have given me a bit of a nudge to get going again thank goodness. I think my trouble was I wanted to be perfect and produce a Van Gogh or Michaelangelo. I've been told it's Practice not Perfection!

Gosh @MissConductUS spiders and snakes are my nightmares. My OH said he saw one in the bathroom, which even he thought it was big. He put it out of the window thankfully. He usually takes them across the road to the field but he was ready for bed (OH, not the spider!) and didn't fancy a trek in his dressing gown.

I've been confused with the days recently. I thought it was Sunday today and wondered why my OH wasn't in the living room, but was in his office in the garden. I watched a series on television over the past couple of days and it got to about 10 minutes before the end when I realised I'd already seen it a few years ago! The surprise ending wasn't!

@Mumtobabyhavoc where have you been recently. I've missed the travel news and the food news. We had duck stir fry last night, which was so tasty. Tonight is spaghetti bolognaise. The other day my daughter said we needed more oregano, we do use a lot of it. I usually buy the large tubs from Costco, which work out cheaper than the small bottles from supermarkets. I thought I'd save more if I got it from Amazon. Oh my goodness, have you ever seen 500g of dried Oregano? It's like a pillow. I'm going to put some in smaller bags to give to my friends when we go out for lunch. It's in my Le Mans cupboard and every time the door is opened the kitchen is filled with the scent of Oregano. A good job we like it 😃.

Hi, new here. I had a bag of charity shop stuff collected today and am looking over all the washing up and laundry which needs doing and hoping I can do it today in one fell swoop. I seem to let things build up and trying to break the habit. DD(6) just found a ladybird and tried to give it a ride by shaking about her balance board with the ladybird on it, so I had to tell her not to and she got annoyed that she couldn't play theme parks with an insect and let the ladybird go. She's desperate for a pet but I don't think either of us are ready yet to look after one full time. She's had enough of the ladybird after about 3 minutes.

Hi 👋 @Welikebeingcosy A few years ago I made a slug hotel, with signs and tiny umbrellas and beds. My garden was not a brilliant place and my children really enjoyed this. However one of my colleagues chose that particular day to visit us. I think i confirmed her view of me as being slightly unhinged.

BuntyBeaufort · 23/07/2025 12:49

Slightly fretting that my little grandson’s birthday present won’t arrive in time. He knows what it is and is very excited, so I don’t know whether to give him something else on the day or tell him it’s been delayed. Either way, he’ll be disappointed and I’m disproportionately anxious.

MyrtleLion · 23/07/2025 13:03

On my way to London for a late lunch with an old friend. We've arranged it so i can then move smoothly to a networking drinks event nearby this evening.

DH took me to the station and will collect me later tonight. It's been so long since we did this that both of us forgot he usually makes me a coffee for the journey. Fortunately I had time to pick up a coffee at the station before I got on the train.

The train is not from the usual train company where I can get a table, or at the very least have a pull down tray like on a plane. It only has open seating with no trays or tables, except in first class. Frustratingly there are no guards on the train, so I could sit in first class, but every so often one turns up and I could be fined.

Myrtle, hope your trip into London was fun. 😊

Watched the fireworks again this evening (technically last night as it's now past midnight). It was a full day with lots of driving and I'm tired. 🥱

It was a wonderful day and very drunken! But I’m in hospital in three weeks, so I’m trying to see my friends before I am stuck at home for weeks.

bizzey · 24/07/2025 14:15

Hello 👋 👋!
I am here ...ohh my word where to start !

It has been a whirlwind time 😮😂!

Holiday was fantastic.....The Gods were on or side !
Weather was brilliant.
It was " only " about 27 - 29 c .
It had been in the mid 30's the week before so we were quite comfortable.
There was fresh breeze as well as opposed to a warm breeze.

Apartment was incredible...it was so big with lots of rooms , corridors and hallways , I kept going in the wrong direction.

I think I did a load of my daily steps just trying to get to whatever room I needed 😂😂.

Needless to say me and the boys had such a good time and had loads of laughs.

We did all the main attractions that I had loosely planed .

Missed off one Island , but did another one as a bit of an impromptu one which turned out to a very important island once a weekend a year .

Festa della Redentore .

Delayed flight home was our only hiccup, and that was due to big thunderstorms.

Sorted out things for mam.

And at hospital today to have the other leg done !

So , I am now resting up for the weekend and watching lots of TV !!

Lemonsandlemonade · 24/07/2025 15:41

Hi all

Just thought I would update you all.

In the 8 months since my soon to be ex husband had an affair my life has gotten much much better.

I have met someone who is so wonderful kind caring and considerate. He is wonderful with my DS and is generally a super person.

I have since meeting my DP been on many adventures being with him. From London to Rome to Berlin. So many different places and adventures.

I couldn't be happier.

I am also engaged which I know is quick but totally right. I am in such a great space.

How are you all?

bizzey · 24/07/2025 15:59

Ohh wow @Lemonsandlemonade !!

How wonderful that it all feels so right for you .
Wishing you all the best .

Ps ...when is the wedding ??? ...
We love a bit of wedding prep in this thread don't we !

bizzey · 24/07/2025 16:03

Myrtle, sounds like a great time!
Bizzie, it's so nice you had such s good time with your boys. 💛
Lemons, nice to see you here! Great news as well. I'm glad to know things are going so well 💛

Not enough sleep here. I think it's going to be a rough day if I can't fit a nap in.

Welcome, @Welikebeingcosy, and thanks for sharing your charity shop news. I'm going to guess that what you call a Ladybird is what we know as a Ladybug. A quick google reveals that the name dates to 18th century Britain, when it was "our lady's bug", as a reference to the Virgin Mary.

Everyday a school day on MN.

Myrtle, are you scheduled for surgery? Inpatient or outpatient?

Bizzey, what a grand holiday! The weather is always a gamble this time of year, so I'm glad yours was so nice.

Lemons, that's lovely news, thanks for coming back and updating us.

The plumber has rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon, so we are putting up with the inconsistent water pressure for one more day.

The flowers on the deck are holding up in the heat, but I am giving them a good watering everyday.

I’m having ankle surgery and it might also include a ligament repair. But my surgeon won’t reply to my email or enquiries about what he’s actually going to do, or how long I will be in a non-weight-bearing cast - up to 12 weeks, but it could be six.

I may go home the same day or i may stay overnight and if I stay overnight i may have to stay two nights. It’s frustrating not knowing. I certainly wouldn’t behave like this in my profession.

I will have to call the surgery management team again, but he’s not answering their queries either.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/07/2025 02:31

Myrtle, it's odd all those questions weren't covered at the surgical consult. Maybe make a list of q's and send it off to the MOA requesting an appt to discuss? 🤷‍♀️

I spent the afternoon at Play Land with Havoc. It was another hot day. 🥵

I emailed the questions in April and have not had the courtesy of a reply.

Surgical consultation was in October and the consultant was in a meeting, so I spoke to his registrar. He answered all my questions and said I could go and didn’t need to see the consultant unless I really wanted to. I hadn’t realised I hadn’t discussed the ligament repair.

I’m astounded that I haven’t had an acknowledgment or a reply. It’s very unprofessional. I don’t know what an MOA is. Also the resident doctors have gone on strike for five days and I doubt I would get an appointment between now and surgery date.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/07/2025 15:40

Myrtle, you can't also know everything to ask either. Often things occur to you later.

I'ms so tired.... just waking up. Need to get ready and take baby to activity.

Leg was a lot more painful overnight and this morning than when I had the other leg done.

But once I took off the surgical compression bandage, it relived it a bit

Think it just got bandaged awkwardly.

More bleeding this time though.
