So sorry to hear that @Umanresources. Fingers tightly crossed that the extra painkillers arrive speedily, are effective, and that you get seen in good time by a doctor.

Umanresources · 22/12/2025 16:47

Thank you @EllaDisenchanted the boys are so lovely. They defer to me when choosing activities, “Granny, what would you like to do?” They know I do enjoy playing some of the Wii games with them. We all like board games as well, and we enjoy chatting thank goodness. Yesterday evening they sat with eye masks on and pretended they were in a spa.

Tonight we are having fondue, so there are lots of things for dipping, plus other picky bits. The younger DGS loves helping prepare food, so he will be in his element putting things on trays and plates.

Those donuts look so good Ella. When I lived in Canada I was introduced to so many diverse foods by the family I was with. At home in the UK my mum was what was known as a ‘good plain cook’. I did introduce purple sprouting broccoli to her and mayonnaise. We had never had oil and vinegar dressings on salad, only salad cream and I did make chicken liver pate, which I still make and love.

@HildaTablet thank you. Prescription ready to be picked up this evening and F2F appointment tomorrow. Luckily it was a cancellation otherwise it would have been end of January! I think I might need a helping hand again getting into bed tonight.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/12/2025 19:27

Myrtle, yes, you did post previously about your ankle and the infection. 💐 I meant the recent test. 🩷
Uman, I hope the meds work. 🙏
Your dgc sound sweet. ☺️🩷
Hilda, I thought the dancing was quite fun! It was nice for the children to see and baby enjoyed dancing on the side. 🩷
Penguins!! Lovely to see you here. ☺️

I feel like I'm forgetting something important to prep for Christmas... I will double-check everything is wrapped and add bows; make sure the dc's clothes for Christmas Eve and Day are clean; review planned meals and do a final shop... I think that's it?
Need to pick something up from med lab for my mum then do a drop off.
Planning on two more places to take dc tonight/tomorrow. So far it isn't raining here today.

Miss must be in surgery still - 2:27pm EST there.

Lovely to hear everyone’s news.
Wishing the invalids - @Umanresources@MissConductUS@MyrtleLionspeedy recovery.
@EllaDisenchantedlove those donuts 😋 hope you had a lovely and blessed day.
@Mumtobabyhavocit was rugby - our village team has been struggling a bit in their division and true to form they played well with a depleted squad before Christmas but a narrow loss with a losing bonus point keeps us near the bottom of the table. DS1 and 2 have no rugby until after the New Year now. I had a lovely walk and saw a kingfisher.

Hi all you lovely ladies, just wanted to let you know I’m in the ICU and doing pretty well. The surgeon stopped by and said the procedure went well.

Just finished a bit of breakfast and am watching the tv news showing which countries are on the Global Affairs Canada travel advisory list: France and Italy are listed as exercise a high degree of caution. Did I miss something?

Ah! @Mumtobabyhavoc, it's a separate, long-standing issue. I've had lymphoedema in my legs since I was a teenager. My DM and at least one of my DBs also have it.

I underwent genetic testing in 2024 and they determined my lymphoedema is caused by a very rare genetic code deletion. As a result I was referred to a specialist team in London who decided I needed to have my legs scanned to see how extensive the blockages are. That happened on Friday and I will be prescribed compression stockings to reduce the swelling.

They have also referred me for a kidney scan which I will have on the 5 January. Apparently this genetic deletion can also affect kidney development so they want to check if I have any kidney damage. When I broke my leg in 2019 I suffered an acute kidney injury (formerly known as kidney failure) due to dehydration caused by being nil by mouth for three days. Thus it may mean I do have a kidney issue. Fortunately during my recent stay I was allowed 50ml of.water every hour so didn't have the same issue.

Do let me know if you have any questions.

There is a general risk of terrorism in Europe but it's precautionary. The chances of being affected are miniscule.

That's so good to hear. So pleased you came back to tell us. Hope you are getting plenty of rest now. Do you know when you will be going home? Your family will be so pleased to see you. Lovely surgeon telling you good news. 👍 Flowers

Umanresources · 24/12/2025 00:06

@MyrtleLion gosh that sounds serious. Are compression stockings the only treatment you will get? What will they do if you do have kidney damage? No by mouth for three days and like a lot! Hotter is all OK for you. Flowers

The was a mix up with my prescription being cancelled and not redone, but one of the ladies took it back to my doctor's surgery next door and waited for a new one. They then had to wait for their medication delivery. It was due at 5 and they closed at 5.30. So OH said he would go back got it. It's a 10 minute drive so not too bad.

I sect to the docs and I had made an appointment with the wrong person. But she gave me some good advice. Mainly wait for a few days for the tramadol to kick in as the examination would be painful. I was offered an appointment for half an hour later at another surgery. I said yes at first then remembered the advice, so it's going to be on Monday! Hopefully the medication will be working and the exam won't be too painful.

A lovely chat with the boys while the parents went out. Then the younger one was telling me how to make French toast. He's going to write out the recipe for me and I think my son was impressed with my teaching skills. I loved it!

I've just got to add in the timings for the extra for Christmas dinner and that's us sorted!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/12/2025 02:04

Oh, Myrtle! How awful. 💐 Is it painful?
I also have a chronic medical condition, so I can relate a bit, but geez you have really had to endure a lot. 🩷🩷🩷

oh dear myrtle, it’s one thing after another!

Merry Christmas tonight/tomorrow to all of you who celebrate! 🎄 A Slovakian friend of mine celebrates on Christmas Eve, and that is when they have their dinner and I think they all go to Mass as well.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/12/2025 09:14

Happy Christmas Eve, everyone. 🎄🎅
I hope everyone has a stress-free day. 🤞

After a busy day, I took the dc out for a Christmas/Holiday lights walk in Coquitlam. My pics don't do it justice.

mathanxiety · 24/12/2025 20:52

Hope you're comfortable, MissC. It sounds as if you're in good hands.

We're baking pies today, and heading out to Mass later. No white Christmas here - the remaining small piles of snow are gray. We'll have to rely entirely on the fridge to keep leftovers cold as the back porch is well over 40°, so a few days of fridge tetris lie ahead.

MissConductUS · 24/12/2025 21:29

I am in good hands, math, just tired from the disruption to my sleep schedule. My drains are out, along with my arterial line a my center line. I’ve got a bit of a fibrillation and my BP is bouncing around, but nothing unusual after open heart surgery. I’m hoping they discharge me tomorrow. DH,DD and SiL visited today, which was lovely.

Crikey, I’m knackered.

MrsSPenguins · 24/12/2025 22:55

Hope you can get discharged tomorrow @MissConductUS

Lovely pictures @Mumtobabyhavoc

Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas Eve. We have had cinnamon buns you bake in the oven from the bakers in the shape of a Christmas tree and just had smoked salmon blinis and champagne. DH collected everything I had ordered and we spent nearly 3 hours cleaning downstairs. DS brings in a lot of mud from walking in the garden 4 hours or so a day. DD returned from her friends.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/12/2025 06:43

Penguins, your evening sounds perfect. 😋
I vacuumed, too. 🤦‍♀️ Bits of dried mud everywhere from baby running around with boots on. 🤦‍♀️

Went out late this afternoon to the Christmas market and took the dc for a ride on the carousel and a walk around. Havoc asked for a treat, a gingerbread man cookie, so I bought it. It was $14!!! It wasn't even great. Had Havoc not picked it up I wouldn't have bought it. 🤦‍♀️

Dinner was lamb chops, corn on the cob and roasted baby potatoes. Dessert was ice cream and some chocolate. Baby is asleep, Havoc, my mum and I are watching It's A Wonderful Life. I'm on my 3rd drink - Perrier grapefruit. 😂
