Sprouts, yep. I also steam-mopped the floor and area rugs. 🤦‍♀️

Where's a good poached egg debate thread when you need one?

We went to DS's new flat yesterday. The internet installer showed up on time and was lovely, so DH tipped him a tenner. We then spent hours assembling an Ikea bookcase and a coffee table I ordered from Etsy. The instructions were awful for both, especially the coffee table. I told DH I would no longer buy flat-pack furniture. It's just too much work, and Dh would rather pay for delivery and assembly from a proper furniture store.

@MumtobabyhavocSince you brought up eggs, below is my Jarlsberg, cheddar, and bacon omelet this morning, with a copiously buttered English Muffin and some Green Mountain Gringo mild salsa on the side.

The pan is a brand-new All-Clad HA1 Expert, part of a 10-piece non-stick set we got for free. DH ordered a set of this cookware for DS from a posh housewares seller, William Sonoma, in early November, and it kept showing as "preparing to ship" for weeks. He called and called, and they had plenty in stock, and no one could explain why it wasn't shipping. Finally, he reached a supervisor on the phone, who placed a new order for him. She couldn't do anything to the first order as their system doesn't allow any changes to an order that is preparing to ship. The new order went out a few days later, and we received it without a hitch. Then, about a week later, the original order miraculously shipped, and we kept it. So we got a $500 cookware set for free. DH, who does most of the cooking, was thrilled. I think he was a bit jealous of DS having a much nicer set than we do.

The Christmas tree is up, and it looks like we have 5-6 inches of snow. They were predicting 1-3 inches. The birds are mobbing the feeder. If you look closely at the picture, there are three at the bottom feeding, and another at the top, waiting for a place to open up.

Miss, thanks for the support by posting your equally dull, but lovely egg news. 😂
I'm super envious of your winter wonderland! It looks gorgeous and perfect. I just love days when it makes sense due to weather to stay in, have good food, putter a bit and get cozy.

It's raining again here. Apparently we're in a bit of an atmospheric river and there has been flooding and highway closures east down the highway past the suburbs (ie Abbotsford).

I took the kids to Steveston last night for their Santa parade. Before anyone gets too excited, this is not a tourist destination event. It is a very local, small community thing. We were at the end of the route and it took 30 minutes to get to us and probably only 15 mins (if that) to pass us. I go to take the kids because we don't have a Santa parade anymore and I've spent a lot of time there. As a major city the Vancouver parade was a destination event and apparently organizers can't secure sponsorship since it was cancelled during the pandemic. 🙄
Anyway.... a few pics from last night.
Parade consisted of a small high school marching band and football team, a few local businesses, ambulance, fire truck and a flat bed with Santa and Mrs. Claus. There were also two military transport vehicles, strangely. O e had the Tibetan prayer flag and the other a Russian peace-keeping flag? Bizarre.

Easiest sheet pan meal ever and one I make weekly: salmon baked with pesto, yellow pepper and asparagus. Brown rice cooked on the stove. Salmon baked from frozen. Havoc thanked me for a delicious dinner. 😁

Weather warning here. Looks like there will be more flooding in the valley.

I love assembling flat pack furniture, MissC, but I'm a little too far away to be any help.
The woods near your house are gorgeous.

Our snow will melt tomorrow and the day after as the polar blast is over, but it's going to be cold again this weekend. I managed to find a decent enough tree on Saturday in the bitter chill, and carried it up most of the back stairs myself when I got it home. I had to call DD who was in bed recovering from a D&V bug or possibly food poisoning, and she bravely pulled on her coat, hat, and gloves to get it across the finish line and installed in its stand. We've been so busy since Saturday evening (cookie exchange to bake for, packages to ship, and gifts for colleagues to wrap) that we haven't yet decorated it. The lights work though.

mathanxiety · 17/12/2025 02:57

havoc I hope you won't be affected by the flooding I've been seeing on the news.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/12/2025 03:34

Math, luckily fine here. But, holy! I had no idea it had been so bad last week until
Mum told me the highway was closed because of flooding. I hadn't been keeping up with local news (I have issues 🙄).
Glad you have your tree. 🤗

I need to vacuum. 🥱

I also love assembling flat pack furniture. Apparently I'm better and faster than DH.

We were called on Saturday about selling our car and the numbers are so good we actually did it!

We realised £20,000 of value and used £10k as a deposit and will get £10k cash back which will help with our finances. We're also getting an electric car which should reduce our outgoings considerably. Picking it up on Saturday.

All the Christmas presents are bought. And will arrive tomorrow. I have a hospital appointment in South London on Friday afternoon which will mean a lot of driving.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/12/2025 03:27

@MissConductUS Just letting you know you're in my thoughts and I'm sending you good wishes for the heart cath tomorrow. ☺️

MissConductUS · 18/12/2025 09:22

Thanks, Havoc, today is the big day. I have to turn up at 7:30 this morning, and I'm scheduled for 8:30 for the cath. No breakfast for me, unfortunately. 😂

I'm packing an overnight bag with my iPad, charger, my favorite pillow, a change of clothes, etc. I've had an orthopedic surgery at this hospital before, and it's lovely and modern. The nursing care was excellent, too. But I've never stayed overnight, so I have no idea what the food's like.

I won't have GA, so I should be pretty much back to normal by noon.

I've been wrapping presents and decorating like a madwoman. And I found a tiny lion sleeping under the tree. He loves the tree.

Hope all goes well @MissConductUS
Great pics @Mumtobabyhavoc- sometimes the simplest food is the best!
I have had a productive morning, early morning swim session then shopping - managed to break the back of the food shopping. Cleaned the fridge and got rid of out of date food before putting everything away. One load of washing in dryer, one lot of bedding in the machine. Cleaned the manky kitchen bin, managed to get rid of the recycling before the bin men came and finally managed a cup of tea. Need to do some ironing now……

MissConductUS · 18/12/2025 15:49

Cath results were not good. I need a triple bypass. They’re going to transfer to a hospital in the city that can do them robotically. I’ll update again later.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/12/2025 16:36

@MissConductUS
That's a shocking result. 💐
But, you said yourself you are in good hands with excellent care. You have an angel Miss and this was caught before an urgent medical event. 🩷

Hello all 👋
@MissConductUS sending you prayers for a safe surgery and easy recovery ❤️‍🩹

@Mumtobabyhavoc what debate? That egg looks delicious !

we are mid Chanuka, so it’s latkes and doughnuts here 😋 we ordered 6 different types from a local home business and then we cut each one into 6 pieces so we all got to try a bit of each one. So tasty! DH attempted to make latkes for the first time. He grated the potatoes, and when I saw them and asked him what recipe he used, he looked at me blankly 😅 so I added the eggs and oil and salt and made the mixture for him to fry. Joke was on me though for laughing, as I absent minded cracked an egg into the carton instead of the glass which was right there. He fried them beautifully and they were great!

older two kids are off this week and the younger two are in school camp; they have off over chanuka, so they’ll be back in next week.

ds turned 11; he’s a huge Harry potter fan (he’d love to go to the Potter experiences) and asked for a Harry Potter cake. I hate cake decorating but it had to be done 😅 I couldn’t find any peach fondant, so I mixed red and white and yellow, so the cake was a rather fetching shade of tangerine 😆

havoc, it is indeed a bit miraculous that this was all discovered before it became emergent.

I am waiting for the receiving hospital to accept the transfer. I have a private room and lunch was delicious, so things could be worse. My nurse is lovely, but she’s taking vitals every hour and I’m hooked up to an EKG on telemetry.

Fortunately, I brought my iPad and charger in my overnight bag.
