Currently watching Game 7 of the World Series, hoping the Blue Jays can pull it off.

mathanxiety · 02/11/2025 01:26

And just as I typed that, someone got hit by a pitch and the benches cleared. It looks as if fisticuffs have been averted, though.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/11/2025 04:53

I guess "congratulations" are now in order? @mathanxiety 🏆

eta: after a scroll I see you were rooting for the Jays. 😭

Sprouts, Uman. Sadly, ended up throwing the cinnamon buns away. Leaving them on the counter attracted a bunch of flies having quite a sugar party. 🤮
I was the only one who got one.
I bought butter on the way home this evening and am hoping to make them tomorrow again.

Vacuumed again today. It doesn't end. 🤦‍♀️🙈

Took dc to a Pumpkin Parade!!!! It was really cute. Everyone brought their Halloween pumpkins and lined them up along a path. Little lights were given to put inside them. City to compost them later. Games, crafts, face painting. It was sweet! I was surprised though that both dc were quite upset leaving the pumpkins behind. There were tears. "I miss them, mummy." 😢
I whisked them off to the Parade of Souls after that. It was a bit of a gong show with the crowd for the kids ' parade which was at 7pm. Instead, it was a mass of people following along and jammed up taking pics. 🙄
Once we got past that (I gave up trying to follow) the kids had fun playing some games and dancing. It was basically a street party with music, food, games and a lot of goth/zombie/ghosts etc. 😹
The weather was on our side, saw the moon, but a bit cold. Stayed an hour then a quick grocery stop on the way home. Made apple cider ( just heated apple juice w cinnamon) and we watched a movie.
Clocks go back tonight.
Time for sleep. 😴

I'm still very tired and the infection management consultant thinks it may be one of the antibiotics. They really don't want to change it but may be forced to if the fatigue continues.

I'm having my stitches out tomorrow so the last week has been staying at home in my pjs, knitting and watching TV.

mathanxiety · 02/11/2025 21:29

That sounds like a fantastic Hallowe'en experience for you all, havoc.

Yes, I was hoping the Blue Jays would win, but maybe they'll have another good season next year. The local NFL team looks as if they're about to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yet again, though there's a minute left, and the commentators seem to have enormous faith in the quarterback. I'm off to empty the dishwasher.

mathanxiety · 02/11/2025 21:42

They scored just as I got off the couch. So I sat back down for the final 17 seconds, and they managed to intercept a big final ditch throw by the other team, and win.

myrtle I hope tomorrow's visit goes well and that you continue to recover. Will you have regular checkups to make sure the ABs are still working?

MissConductUS · 03/11/2025 17:04

Sorry to hear about your fatigue, Myrtle. I'm a bit surprised it could be down to the antibiotic. Just fighting the infection may be causing it.

I had a dental implant put in last week, but I have to go back next week to have the stitches taken out. I also have an appointment in December to have crowns put on two implants I had placed back in June. So retirement is turning out to be a dental catch-up opportunity.

Math and Havoc, the New York sports teams haven't covered themselves in glory in the last few years either.

My brother and SiL have offered to host us for Thanksgiving, so that will be nice. It will just be six of us at the dinner, but we'll bring appetizers, side dishes and probably a pie.

sproutsandparsnips · 03/11/2025 20:23

Sorry about the fatigue @MyrtleLionbut staying at home in your pyjamas on the sofa sounds quite nice……
I took DS2 to the dentist (not his own but a friend as our dentist couldn’t fit him in around school until after Christmas) for a gum shield fitting as he has lost his 🙄. It was not cheap.
I cooked for 2 teams again on Saturday our firsts and athletic teams. The first had a marginal loss against a top of the table team who expected to come and take a convincing win against us but we re struggling. I hope not to be demoted next season.
My knee is sore, I fear my running days are over at least for now…..

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/11/2025 00:28

Sprouts, I've resumed squats using a light barbell and my knee pain has diminished significantly. Started in August. Give it a try?

Ouch Miss! I hope it isn't too painful and you're well on the mend now?

It turned out to be a very nice fall day today. ⛅️
Had a medical appt with GP who ended up checking both Havoc and I re the lingering colds we have as I was concerned about the cough and chest congestion since we're going into week 3. Thinks it is viral and not anything severe ie pneumonia.
I'm keeping the kids home from school as they are still coughing quite a bit. They are in good spirits and eating fairly well, so I'm not super concerned. Just being careful.

Did a shop at a different Costco today. Came home with extras. 🙄 So, basically I'm all set with pistachio spread for the foreseeable 🤗🤫🫣 we have new light gloves for fall ❄️ and have lobster ravioli, smoked salmon and spring rolls (some of which I've already baked and eaten while watching tv...).

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/11/2025 17:52

Did I mention I bought a kilo of pistachio spread at Costco? 🤫🫣🤭😛

That's quite a haul from Costco, havoc.
I hope you'll all shake the congestion. Guaifensin might work for you but I don't think you can give it to the LOs. A humidifier might help loosen it up too.

Our pleasant weather will be with us until Sunday morning, when we're expecting the miserable 'wintry mix'.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/11/2025 04:27

Math, thanks for the advice. 😘
Re the shopping... totally a result of grocery shopping when tired and very hungry. Everything looked so good there! 🤩

Up incredibly early for me. I think i might go back to bed for a few hours. It's raining hard and obviously so dark. My OH has been in Brussels for work, for a few days. He'll be back late tomorrow night. My DD has gone to Lisbon for a week to stay with my DS and family. She was getting up at i was going to bed! I'm going to be on my own for a couple of days. DD bought me a moussaka for my dinner tonight and tomorrow so will only have to heat it and not do any cooking. I'll have some vegetables with it. Lovely.

The engineer came yesterday from the company we chose for the stairlift. After measuring he showed me the computer generated video and it looks great. I wish I'd taken a video of it, add it was fascinating. The measurements have been sent to the manufacturers and it should be ready in a couple of weeks. They will install it in a few hours. I am so looking forward to it now and I'm counting down the days every time I climb the mountain to bed!
My OH and I need to get our eyes tested again. We went to Costco last time and it was so easy. I'm hoping we go there again. I've not been round any shops since 6 March 2020. It was my brother's first birthday after he died, just before the pandemic, which is why I can remember the date.

EllaDisenchanted · 05/11/2025 07:07

I’m lying in my bed trying to get motivated to get my laptop out and do work. I can’t really face it 🤦‍♀️
still hot here. I’ve put on a very lightweight sweater but just checked the weather forecast and I’m gonna have to change, as it’s set to hit 33c. It’s dark early in the day bc of the clock change, but still hit- weird combo.
This is probably the last of the properly hot weather though and will probably be more moderate and cooler til February.
I need to get on with Shabbat cooking early this week as well, as we want to go to an army ceremony for a boy who finished his basic training, who was a ‘big brother’ mentor for one of our sons (we have two who have autism and other SEN). I think they do an overnight hike or run and then you go join them for the last half hour. I’m not really sure, but it’s super early in the morning and we’d have to drive an hour down south as well, so I’ll probably be exhausted the rest of the day.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/11/2025 14:37

Uman, it will be so much easier and safer once the stairlift is in place. ☺️
Ella, it's nice to see you back here.

I was asleep around 8:30pm last night. 🤗🥳
i was just up with baby and it's 6:30am so I'm hoping to fall back asleep.
Covid & flu shots later today for my mum and I.
DC get theirs tomorrow.

MyrtleLion · 05/11/2025 14:39

I slept properly last night for the first time in about five weeks. I'm feeling more with it as a result.

Had my postponed flu jab today which was fine and easy.

I'm joining a knitting summit this evening.

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 05/11/2025 16:00

The non-stick coating on the egg cups of my favourite egg poacher is beginning to flake off. Mind you, I’ve had it fifteen years, so not a bad lifespan. I suppose I should try yet again to teach myself the “proper” cheffy way to poach them in boiling water in a saucepan, but that’s yet another culinary skill which eludes me.

Edited

I have those silicon cup things you drop in the water, and I still manage to mess up poached eggs! Sounds like you got your money's worth :)

Mum that's impressively early! I could any time before 11.30 pm as an early night.

Uman is the stair lift in yet?

Myrtle what's a knitting summit?

I need to get back to work, trying to get everything done before tomorrow, so I can take off in the morning. Will need to leave at 4 am, as it is a 1.5 hour drive.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/11/2025 23:56

FWIW I boil water in the pan with a bit of vinegar; reduce to a light simmer and then drop the eggs in slowly. Works very well.

Welcome to our thread @ACatAsleepInYourHat 🤗

It has become a bit stormy out and temp says 12c.
Luckily, all errands done and we have just had a very late lunch: chicken and pasta for dc with a little platter of naan, some cheese and smoked salmon; and some strawberries and grapes. They also had grapefruit Perrier and a dark choc Digestive. I had two light rye Wasa with smoked salmon and a Perrier. I'm now having a slice of a very good chicken pie. It's perfect for today. 😛
We're watching Paddington cartoons. I need to make my bed.

@Mumtobabyhavoc
Thanks for the welcome, though I think I might have posted on this thread before? Anyway, I fully intend to learn how to poach an egg the “proper” way. It can be my dull and unexciting personal mission for what remains of the week.

In other unexciting news, one of my cats stalked off to sulk on the conservatory windowsill earlier on because I took a dead mouse off her. I suppose I should be grateful it wasn’t half a dead mouse!

mathanxiety · 07/11/2025 04:07

ella I have a little silicone doodad for egg poaching too. It works pretty well. I gave up on the swirling boiling water. Hope your event will be enjoyable.

We're going to start the day tomorrow around 40°F and get up to 64F. It's hard to decide which jacket to bring when there's such a difference in temperature throughout the day. I'm debating whether shivering in the morning is preferable to boiling in the afternoon. If I could get any hint of what the wind situation will be like, it would help a lot.

I need to bring in the rest of my plants on Saturday ahead of the miserable weather we're expecting on Sunday. I have geraniums and mint, and some Boston ferns that have survived indoors for a few winters, although they look really anemic when spring rolls around.

sueelleker · 07/11/2025 07:33

Taking my rescue spaniel to the vet for her 6 month health check today. It's the first time since I took her in May to register, when I got her. It'll be interesting to see what she weighs-poor little scrap was only 11kg then, but she's filled out nicely now.

Hi Elle!

It's like an online conference about knitting. Lots of free patterns, video demonstrations, a stitch-in where people knit and chat, a bingo competition. It's American based so some of it is on too late for me, but the demos are available for 48 hours unless you upgrade (which I haven't). It's free. Let me know if you're interested as it's on for a couple more days.

You'll have to @ me so.I know to check back here.
