It's a front camera module failure. We may be able to get a free/£200 fix from the dealer as it's only four years old and has been properly serviced by the dealer. But it may be £1,500 to replace the whole unit.

We have to go to a main dealer for it to be sorted out. 😥

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/10/2025 18:25

Fingers crossed for the less expensive solution @MyrtleLion 🤞

Saw the news about the attack in Manchester. 😔

Maybe your car thinks it's also retired now, MissC. Your stairs and door look very nice.

Another 90°F day tomorrow, then a very warm weekend, and we'll finally start to cool down (in relative terms) next week. I got to work in record time today and realised the lack of traffic was thanks to all the local public schools having the day off for Yom Kippur. Back to the usual rat race tomorrow, I suppose.
Very sad news from Manchester.

The local chipmunks have taken to indulging in long barking sessions at the crack of dawn. DD is feeling murderous. I think they're really cute, though I'm not the one whose bedroom overlooks the deck where they take up barking position.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/10/2025 20:01

Happy Friday Lovelies. 😘💕
Lots on the agenda today.
Have taken Havoc to school this morning.
We've just finished up lunch and I've got a chat show on that I pvr'd. We're sitting on the couch eating donuts as our Friday treat. I've got an iced latte, too.
I need to go to Costco, church for a visit with dc, review and compare insurance policies then buy one 🥱 and squeeze in some playground time with the kids. Weather is decent so far. Cloudy, but sun poking through and 16c.

Havoc, I think I gained two pounds looking at that picture of the donuts.

Math, it's been hot here too, but getting cold at night, it was down to 44F last night.

I have finished two coats of paint on the steps and door, walls and ceiling. It looks so much better. Here's the before picture again and how it looks now.

@MissConductUSlooking good, that must be satisfying! Your retirement do looks wonderful.
@Mumtobabyhavocloving your food pics!
@MyrtleLionyou are so clever, those squares are so beautiful.
DS is home for the weekend to sort some paperwork. He has ‘freshers flu’ but is enjoying his course so far and the social life…….

This is the Easiest Scarf in the World - 300 stitches of knit, cut yarn at the end of the row, two rows per colour minimum, knot the ends in groups of four and they become the fringe.

bizzey · 04/10/2025 13:46

Hi 👋👋..
Just thought I would Pop in and say a quick hello.

That scarf is amazing @MyrtleLion !

I have been quite as things are still tough.

I haven't left MN totally as I am always on the Telly addicts thread , for a bit of escapism 😅.

Lots of wind around this way today but a beautiful sunny and MILD morning, so I had as many windows open as possible to get a good blow threw the house 🌬️🌬️.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/10/2025 18:17

Hi @bizzey Nice you stopped by. Was actually going to tag you recently, but forgot. I hope things ease up for you. We're here for you, too. 💕

@Deathraystare thinking about you as well. Let us know how you are?

I didn't get much sleep last night. Baby was up twice and after the 2nd time, 4am, I stayed awake until 6am. Then dc woke at 7.

For some reason Havoc is tantrumming over everything this morning despite lots of sleep and has just stopped screaming about a bagel being cut up when a whole one was wanted. For. The. Love. Of. God. 🫣

Having to go to Costco on a Saturday is looking better atm. I need the escape. 🤣

@EllaDisenchanted you still here?

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/10/2025 23:07

Made it to Costco! Did a smallish shop, stopped at recycling after and dropped off two empty motor oil containers, got home, unpacked groceries and made lunch.
I thought I'd take an hour or two to finally get back to watching Suits LA., but it is no longer available as it was cancelled in May. 😢
So, watching the original Suits now. 🤓
I'm kinda digging the Harvey character atm. 😍
Clean cut men dressed nicely any day of the week. 😛

It will be thanksgiving here next week. Dessert is tricky as my mum's birthday falls a few days before. I ordered a cake for my mum and I'm leaning toward making cheese cake for Thanksgiving. It's dead easy.

mathanxiety · 04/10/2025 23:53

DS is in town for a wedding and paid a quick visit. We now have some wonderful local sausages from Appalachia in the freezer. They're not available here.

Roadwork continues - the town has decided in its wisdom that all the right angle intersections in the vicinity of the high school (i.e. all the intersections) need to have the sidewalks and grass parkways extended into the intersections, tightening the available road space at every intersection as a way to slow traffic, even though pretty much all the intersections have four way stop signs that are designed to slow traffic. Apparently speed bumps in the middle of each block would make us look trashy...

The effect is that school buses have to make extremely wide turns, traffic is seriously held up, and passengers are thrown around as buses bump over the new curbs. As soon as the buses have struggled around the corners, traffic shoots through. I can't wait to see how the snow ploughs navigate the new corners, and I suspect the piles of snow that can't be shoved aside will seriously impede the visibility of intersecting traffic and pedestrians. Or the snow will end up blocking the intersections due to the angle of the ploughing. People are already mad about lack of resident input on a massive change to leaf collection last year (it was stopped altogether, with the result that leaves blocked drains and massive pond-like puddles developed every time it rained). It will be interesting to see how the waste of money/ tightening the corners pans out.

Lots of helicopter action aloft all day every day last week - the metro area is experiencing a good deal of Federal attention.

HildaTablet · 05/10/2025 00:16

You have your very own version of ‘cutted-up pear', Havoc 😂

We've had a storm for the past day but it abated slightly today and hardly rained, though it was still quite windy. Apparently it'll get lively again tomorrow. I took the opportunity to collect some quinces from a neighbour who has loads of excess fruit to give away - it’s been a very productive year for apple crops etc. I prepared the quinces, chopped them up and reduced them to a state suitable for straining, to get the juice to make quince jelly tomorrow. I then forgot to buy the sugar on my trip to the supermarket, but luckily realisation dawned as I was walking back to the car with the shopping I had remembered, so I only had to nip back into the shop quickly and pick up a couple of packets.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/10/2025 07:24

Oh @HildaTablet I'm in the trenches here. 😭

Took DC to Pumpkins After Dark this evening; Havoc cried because we didn't walk through a 2nd time even though I offered and encouraged it; once home cried about getting undressed and changed into pj's; cried again because was hungry, we didn't get French fries and now wanted a milkshake. I said I was going to take a bath and put my pj's on then I'd make a snack for us. Havoc promptly put self to bed and was asleep in about 10 mins. Thank. God.
So, I just has a little snack of chips and dip.
All. To. Myself.

A few pics of the displays. The website says it's going to in London, btw.

@Mumtobabyhavoc oh no! you really are in the trenches! But they'll remember having such a wonderful childhood with a mum who did so many great things for (and with) them ❤️

(those pumpkin-headed scarecrows look quite scary btw!)

MyrtleLion · 05/10/2025 12:16

I forgot to say that I sent an image of my incision to my medical practice. It keeps bleeding and I can't do my physio exercises. They called me in for an emergency appointment and prescribed antibiotics as it is infected. They packed it with iodoflex and covered it and I have to go in twice a week for dressing changes.

It has swollen my ankle very badly and I'm in the larger walking boot. I feel I've taken a big step back in my recovery as I'm mostly immobile again.

I told the surgeon I needed deep mattress stitching because I have a connective tissue disorder and my skin is fragile. He ignored me and used dissolvable stitches. I will also end up with wide scarring rather than a thin line. I hate being right sometimes. He has resigned because the workload is too heavy (I still haven't had a follow up appointment), but I am considering a complaint.

We watched Terminator 2 last night for Saturday movie night. The effects are still amazing and the cinematography and big set-piece explosions are terrific. But there is essentially no plot. Machine assassin sent from the future to kill a boy who will one day lead the resistance against the machines. The boy's future self (2029 😮) sends back another machine assassin to.protect him. Boy is protected after lots of explosions etc. That's it.

HildaTablet · 05/10/2025 12:32

Oh @MyrtleLion 😱 That is terrible and so wrong. I would definitely put in a complaint. It's not as though you didn’t tell them! I’m horrified on your behalf.

MissConductUS · 06/10/2025 14:01

Havoc, at that age kids are prone to pushing boundaries and trying to assert autonomy. Don't take it personally. It's nice that he put himself to bed. That's a way of saying "I can do it myself, mom!".

Myrtle, I think you should complain, and I'm not surprised he ignored what you told him about the stitches you needed. You've probably heard the old joke "What's the difference between a surgeon and God? God doesn't think he's a surgeon." His resignation will hopefully lead to someone better being assigned to your case.

I decided to treat myself and bought a new iPad Air to replace my three year old iPad. The battery was pretty worn out. The old one was the 11 inch size. Since I use it mostly for watching Netflix and Amazon Prime I decided to get the 13 inch one this time. It's much faster and I love the bigger screen.

I'm still painting. I painted the exterior parts of the new windows we had installed as part of the kitchen renovation. There were also a lot of holes in the cedar siding that carpenter bees had dug over the years looking for a place to nest that I filled in with plastic wood filler and painted. That's really all that needed doing on the outside of the house. Painting the vestibule is next.

The paint on the window frames is a bit darker than the surrounding boards. It is exactly the same color mix, the old paint has just faded in the last 12 years. So short of repainting the whole area, there's nothing to be done about it.

Thank you. I'm now in A&E waiting to be admitted. The wound has become significantly worse and following a routine dressing change the nurse called in my GP who said it's probably cellulitis and sent me here urgently. This will mean IV antibiotics and an overnight stay.

I will be complaining. Tomorrow is eight weeks post operation.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/10/2025 00:51

Oh, no @MyrtleLion I'm sorry to hear about this turn of events. 😔. Were there any signs of infection sooner? I had cellulitis that developed after a tick bite and had red striations up and down my leg the doctor was concerned about, but luckily I saw the lines and didn't delay getting to a medical clinic. 😅
You're in the right place now, thankfully! I'm hoping the ab's will produce quick results and that you'll get some rest and chocolate pudding.
😘😘😘😘😘

OP posts:
MyrtleLion · 07/10/2025 01:35

It's been very difficult. They are going to admit me and I need an operation to clean out the wound. Antibiotics won't work because of the metal in my ankle. The bacteria on the metal won't be cleared up by antibiotics alone.

It's 1.30am and I am still waiting for a bed which I don't think will come before morning. That means I'm unlikely to have the operation tomorrow (Tuesday) and will be staying Tuesday night and then at least one or two more nights, if not longer. I'm not at the red striations up the leg yet. However they stopped the antibiotics and who knows?

They think the infection started about a week ago and the antibiotics I was given on Friday helped stave it off over the weekend. It is now badly infected and will need more serious treatment.

It's uncomfortable sitting in the chairs and not sleeping but this too will pass.

Umanresources · 07/10/2025 02:02

Oh gosh @MyrtleLion I feel so much for you. I hope you manage to get some sleep and a bed. Hopefully the next surgery will be the last and you will make a speedy recovery. Keep us informed please.☝💐

@Mumtobabyhavoc those pumpkins look fabulous. I bet Havoc will have fabulous memories of their childhood with you.

@MissConductUS your retirement is getting off to a busy start. I hope you manage to slow down a bit. Do you have any hobbies, old or new, that you would like to pursue?

I’ve just taken painkillers and am waiting for them to take effect before I try and scale the stairs to bed!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/10/2025 02:34

Uman, how are you doing? Are you getting around ok?

We just finished dinner here. I sautéed asparagus and yellow bell pepper, added chopped sundried tomatoes, left over rotisserie chicken and a handful of grape tomatoes then added boiled farfalla and crumbled some feta over. Tossed a few times and Bob's yer uncle. 💁‍♀️

We've now moved on to Oreos xSelena Gomez and dark chocolate Digestives. 😋
I think I harvested the last tomatoes from my garden today, too. Temp dropped to 7c last night.

Oh, @MyrtleLion I'm sorry! But, small miracle the other antibiotics did a bit. It does sound bad, though. 😔
You must be so uncomfortable up so late. Are you in a bed in the emergency/triage section or sitting up?

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 07/10/2025 03:33

Hope you're OK, Myrtle.

Hope Havoc gets a good night's rest.havoc. Tomorrow is a new day.

Lovely paintwork, MissC - did you keep a list of things you wanted to get around to or are you ad libbing?

We had a deluge around 5pm today as a front is passing through. Tomorrow's weather will be much cooler than today's.
