Thank you for your good wishes. The operation was at 1pm in the end, about 15 miles from home. It took 3 hours and I’m now at home and more mobile than expected.

How are you feeling today myrtle?

MissConductUS · 13/08/2025 18:17

I hope you're feeling as well as can be expected, Myrtle. Sometimes the second day after surgery is worse than the first as the post op inflammation ramps up. What if any medications did they send you home with?

DS is flying out to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Thursday to see a friend from uni, then they are going to visit DD and her husband in Indiana and finally do a bit of sightseeing in Chicago before flying home from there on Sunday night. So we're going to be empty nesters for a few days.

MyrtleLion · 13/08/2025 19:16

Pain and inflammation, and a return trip to the hospital because my walking boot was too tight - I have lymphoedema and that combined with the swelling from surgery meant I needed something bigger, plus I had a lot of bleeding so my dressing needed changing.

I’m tired and sore because the nerve block has worn off. They wanted to send me home with just blood thinners and paracetamol. No codeine until the pharmacy opened, so they sent me home with morphine in the end.

Paracetamol is a terrible analgesic and doesn’t work even for headache and chronic pain in 90% of the population. I have no idea why they prescribe it as only one in four feel the effects for acute pain and it should not be used post operatively. It never worked for me as a child so I stopped taking it. I think people take it because it’s offered and then just get on with things.

Miss, absolutely love that frog pic! I also love that they cling to your window, likely to greet you! 🐸
Uman, it's 11am here, but you should be done surgery by now unless it was delayed. Hoping it went well! 🩷
Ella, what does your safe room consist of? Is it bomb-resistant? I looked at property in Israel some time ago and I recall features like that.

Yeah, pretty much tagged everyone to say, Hi. ☺️

Hot day here again. Supposed to be at least 30c, not heat dome hot, though, thank God, but hot enough.
Steam cleaned kitchen floor and living room area rug last night, did a load of clothes and hung up, then put a load of towels on to wash and put them into the dryer before bed. Stayed awake thinking, scrolling, tossing and turning until 4am or so then up at about 8 with dc. Cleaned the bathroom. Washing bedding now then will take dc out to an outdoor pool or spray park. Havoc has a bit of pink on cheeks from yesterday. Will be diligent with sunscreen today.

Edited

It’s a reinforced room in our apartment. The window comes out and there is a heavy metal shutter that gets closed and locked , and there are some vents and an odd wall unit that i don’t know the purpose of (presume they are attachments that would be used for chemical warfare and we’d be told what to do). The door is very heavy and is slammed shut and locked with the handle.
we have to keep it stocked with water and food and torches/batteries etc. supposed to have a radio (I haven’t got batteries for mine) and I have charged power banks and an emergency light that goes on if the power goes out. during the Iran war we also had a bucket etc because we could be stuck in there for hours, and can’t take the kids out 😬
It’s bomb proof, up to a point. When the ballistic missiles hit buildings in the Iran war, the safe rooms protected the people in them, but not when the safe rooms were directly hit.
it’s also DS’s bedroom/my home office.

MegaMinion34 · 13/08/2025 19:22

Not sure it's totally dull, but just found out today I'm getting a payrise of 10%! Not too shabby 😆

MissConductUS · 13/08/2025 19:49

Welcome, @MegaMinion34, and thanks for sharing your fabulous payrise news. 10% is a cracking rise. Was it a promotion to a new role?

sproutsandparsnips · 13/08/2025 22:26

This is good news @MegaMinion34!
your energy is amazing @Mumtobabyhavoc! I remember the bugs when I was in Kugluktuk - I was advised to spray Bugoff onto a hat!
@MissConductUShave you had to change your office to a cubicle because you retiring? That seems a bit mean. That’s an amazing photo, so cute!
@MyrtleLionsorry you’ve had a setback. Hope things start to improve again soon.
@EllaDisenchantedthat sounds a very bad time to have a power cut!
@Umanresourcessorry about the glasses, glad you managed to order more - it’s upsetting when you break a sentimental item.
we are all very anxious waiting for results tomorrow here in our house. DS is very worried. Really hope he gets what he needs.

Umanresources · 13/08/2025 23:08

Well done @MegaMinion34 on your not too shabby raise!
@MyrtleLion i hope your pain can be managed now. I take 8 co-codamol a day, alongside between 10 and 12 ibuprofen, this just about takes the edge off the hip pain. I also have a cold spray that I use and a cold pack which cools the heat that comes off my hips. I try to keep my hands and mind busy during the day to take my mind off the pain. It sometimes works
Today I was getting ready to go out, I stood up and was transferring from my chair to my walker, when I did the same trick of knocking into my table. This time I knocked a can of sparkling water over, down the back of my legs, and my Stanley cup onto the floor which spilled. Poor A was mopping the floor as I was being driven to lunch! My friend has a convertible car and we are like 2 old Thelma and Louise, with my fold up walker on the back seat.😂
My friends loved their gift boxes, so I was really pleased I had done them. I think I’ll paint bookmarks for them for next time.
Very hot again today. We’ve got electric fans going in the living room, plus I have my hand held one as well. I have several fans but for the life of me I can’t remember where I’ve put them.
@sproutsandparsnips i hope your DS gets the results he needs. It’s such a nerve wracking time for everyone 🤞
@Mumtobabyhavoc a wading pool sounds lovely for little ones. We have a paddling pool at home. Perhaps I should ask A to get it out for me. You know it’s warm here when A puts his shorts on, He has meetings online, so he always wears a shirt, usually with trousers but he makes me laugh with his shorts in his office!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/08/2025 08:46

Sprouts, I wish I had Off with me tonight. I took dc up Burnaby Mountain to view the red moon tonight. I have NINE mosquito bites on my left leg. I'm dying... 😢

We started the evening at an outdoor movie at the QE Theatre plaza downtown.

No scheduled activities for the dc tomorrow, it's 12:45am and we're just heading to bed. 🥱

Thank you, everyone. I hadn’t slept in over 24 hours and my pain was not well managed.

My go to analgesic is ibuprofen, probably because it reduces my lymphoedema, but swelling is healing for an ankle fusion, so I’m not allowed to take any NSAIDs for eight weeks.

However, I have established the correct level of morphine and slept really well for three hours at a time. I’m feeling a lot more settled. I’m autistic so a lot of my discomfort was about not being given enough information and plans being changed at the last minute.

I am now on my recliner sofa, with my leg up on pillows, and everything I need is to hand. Just resting and relaxing.

MyrtleLion · 14/08/2025 10:45

Duplicate post

MissConductUS · 14/08/2025 20:06

Uman, ibuprofen can be a godsend, but you can't take those dosages for an extended period. It blocks the production of musins, which degrades the mucus layer lining the GI tract. That can lead to ulcers. I have ulcerative colitis, so I can only take it in low dosages for short periods. It's a shame, as I have had a lot of dental surgery and don't find opioids that effective for that type of pain.

Mytrle, I'm glad you have your morphine dose dialed in and are getting relief with it.

This is the worst turtle picture I've ever posted. It's the turtle's nose poking out of the water to take a breath. They're still hiding due to all of the construction work at the reservoir.

Miss, are you sure it's a turtle? Could it be a cousin to the Loch Ness Monster, or our Ogopogo? 🤔

I was thinking that!

Slept most of the day so I’m feeling a lot more comfortable.

mathanxiety · 15/08/2025 02:14

Myrtle so sorry you've been through the wars

sprouts fingers crossed.

The heat continues here, and the coming weekend is to heat up even more. I'm sitting here after a nice dinner of turkey chili with black beans and corn.

The locusts are in fine voice tonight.

Tomorrow is Friday!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/08/2025 03:12

Glad you are more comfortable Myrtle. 🩷
Locusts Math???? 😳

Spent the afternoon at Play Land again with dc. Tomorrow is the last day and then it becomes part of the larger PNE ending on Labour Day. My pass is for Play Land, so if we want to go after tomorrow we'll have to pay. The PNE is always very busy. I'm not keen on the crowds and the dc are little and only interested in the rides for the most part, so I'm not planning on taking them. Today was busy enough with some rides having a 20 minute wait, or so, but I didn't time it. I'll brave it for the last day tomorrow so I can feel smug to have maximized the pass. I think we must've been at least 10x this summer, though.
Havoc really likes a song in a commercial and we used Google to ident

I don’t really have anything exciting to add, just wanted to introduce myself before jumping on! They’re filming the new Spiderman movie in Glasgow atm, im going to Glasgow for my birthday dinner tonight so might catch a glimpse 👀 if I do I’ll take a pic haha

I haven't got many people to tell in real life but yesterday my foster son, who used to go to a special school when he was younger, got his BTEC Sport extended diploma results and he got 2 x Distinction and a Merit. At the beginning of the year he was hoping for 3 x Merit but this year he's studied all of his favourite topics and worked really really hard. When he handed his work in his teacher thought 1 x Distinction and 2 x Merit working on last year's grade boundaries. We don't know if this year grade boundaries might be a fraction lower or his work has been externally moderated up by the exam board but we are all over the moon for him. When he came to me at almost 6 he didn't even know his colours and couldn't even name animals except for a cat and a dog. I'm just so incredibly proud of him.

MissConductUS · 15/08/2025 15:22

Welcome, @caringcarer and @Tinylittlerainbowcakes, and thanks for sharing your news.

I’d post more but I’m stuck in a very dull meeting. 😳

MadisonAvenue · 15/08/2025 18:09

Hi, there’s not much happening here but the football season starts again this weekend (Sunday for our team) so that means I get to spend several hours with our son every other weekend, sometimes more often, as we travel up and down the M6 to support our team. We chat and put the world to rights, and I love that even though he’s 25 we still have this shared interest.
