Math, Ella I'm joining you on the sick bed. Spent the afternoon napping. Slept about three hours. It started with sinuses and a sore throat on Sunday night and is now slight cough and upper chest congestion. It doesn't feel like Covid, but who knows. I think that's the only thing that seems to go around all year now. Anyway, appetite is ok. Made a shake when I woke with 2 bananas, peach, pineapple, strawberries, almond milk, protein powder and cocoa powder. Had a bit of spaghetti tossed with evoo and a bit of chicken after. Toilet training Havoc is going well today. No diaper all day at home today so far.
Havoc has had major regression since baby came along, so I'm glad to be back on track.
Washed sheets this morning, but just got around to making bed. Folded and put away clothes and threw another load of laundry in.
It is 27c and a fairly clear sky here.

Drove to London to have dinner with a friend last night. She left for work at 7am, but was fine with me staying until I wanted to leave. Just about to drive home.

EllaDisenchanted · 30/07/2025 18:01

I’m sorry for infecting you all 😷 wishing you all a quick recovery!
what is evoo havoc?
today a friend came to visit with her kids, which was so lovely. I’ll be paying the price though as I have a massive work deadline and will have to work all evening/ v late to catch up. Worth it!
I made a fold out accordion fold thing with some photos for my memory journal

Umanresources · 30/07/2025 18:01

Hope all those in the sick bay are on the mend ❤️‍🩹 🤗💐

Halfway through the week and I haven’t done much, apart from online ordering. We have a supermarket delivery this afternoon, and had a clothes delivery this morning; books, meat and discount sundries deliveries tomorrow. I haven’t been inside a supermarket since 2020 and I don’t really miss it.

When my grandsons were here, we went to an immersive LS Lowry exhibition. He was a local artist and it was a brilliant day out. The boys loved it and we bought some prints and Lowry books to remember it. We then went for a meal in a food court. My elder grandson had a huge bowl of noodles and tasted something from almost everyone else’s meal. That boy can eat!

It’s been a pottering day today, I’ve only managed to do a little washing and some tidying. The day has been quite cloudy today but now the sun has decided to shine. Trying to think of what to have for dinner shortly, I’ll let my OH decide because he unpacked the supermarket delivery.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/07/2025 19:31

Ella, extra virgin olive oil.
I like the sound of your picture thing.
Uman, what a great day!

Was up with dc then back to bed for two hours. Ugh. Feel crap.

Been trying to learn intarsia knitting to use up small remnants of wool before 14 balls of yarn arrive at the end of the week.

It's not easy, but at least I don’t have holes in the knitting.

Havoc and Ella, I hope you're both feeling better today.

Uman, that does sound like a fabulous day out with the grandsons. We have supermarket delivery available but I've never used it. I'm sure it's fine for most products, but I like to be able to see and select my own meat and produce. I also find that when I'm at the supermarket, I often see things I need but forgot to put on the list.

It's been really hot this week, with high temps about 38 C. The good news is that the newly repaired AC has been running fine and keeping the house comfortably cool.

The boxwoods we put in five weeks ago are doing well. DH and I have been watering them everyday. The landscaper put down grass seed by the garden border and that's coming up nicely.

Goodness me it is like general hospital here! Hope you are all feeling better very soon!

Nothing much happened, I have had to ask for paperwork from where I last lived as I have it seems lost the bit of paper. This is to put on the blasted council housing form. It needs to be attached.

Anyway, in better news, Universal Credit referred me to something called MSK which is musculo skeletal something or other. This is where they deal with people who have arthritis etc and get them back to work. They can offer free gym membership and physio which would be great. I turn 66 and am pensionable from January so no sure what to do re any jobs.

They also mentioned something about hosing but I said all the charities I tried just said to try the council. The shelter lady I tried was brilliant and they said the council should have given me a form but they were very very reluctant. Anyway...

If I had managed to stay where I last worked I would probably have worked longer but not sure I would want to work until 75! or whenever they are moving the date to.

Welikebeingcosy · 31/07/2025 22:57

Hope everyone feels better soon. @Deathraystare glad there's been some positive with UC. If it's private physio that is great!

My life really has been so quiet today. Me and dd are still cat sitting in London and we were both so burned out from all the tubes etc the last few days, she wanted to just stay in and go nowhere today. Didn't even want to walk to a local park. Eventually we just popped to the newsagent to get her some sweets and that was all. There's been a weird vibe out and about as well.

It's been a pretty surreal experience just lazing around in someone else's small flat all day. Hopefully she will feel up to something else tomorrow and we can pop out. It is really weird though, because even though I'm bored, I'm a lot less stressed as I'm not noticing lots of decorating/DIY/tidying/cleaning jobs to do. I've even relaxed as far as to let my suitcase stuff be all over the bedroom floor, whereas at home I'd be stressing so much over my own mess. I think it's because it's not my house, so I know no one is ever going to judge me. It will be good to try and take some of this thinking home with me if I can. Only a few days left but I've been starting to feel like I've been in some other weird reality where I know no one. I grew up in this city but I've drifted apart from anyone I was friends with growing up or met here later on, doesn't feel familiar or like home at all.

Looks lovely, I Iove the retro look. What is inertia knitting?

Thank you.

Intarsia is adding colours to knitting by using several small balls of wool that are added at each break.

So the black on one edge comes from a separate ball to the black on the other edge.

Each addition of colour requires the two colours to be twisted together every time they change, otherwise it creates big holes in the knitting.

Oh wow sounds a challenge! I don't know why I wrote inertia! Bedtime brain 😂😂😂

bizzey · 01/08/2025 11:59

Eek !
I have bought a new toy !

A paper shredder 😂😂.
It also does CD 's and bank cards and stuff .

🤔🤔....wondering how long it will take before I break this by doing something wrong 😅!

bizzey · 01/08/2025 12:00

Ohh my God ..it has lots of instructions.

I don't do instructions..I just give it a go !

bizzey · 01/08/2025 13:41

Actually...it doesn't have a load of instructions!

It has a big booklet telling you how to turn it on and off again and to remind you not to put your fingers in the bit you put the paper in 🤔😂😂!
So glad I read the instructions...I might have ended up with either shredded finger ...or worse ..
A broken shredder not even a day old 😅😂😂😂!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/08/2025 17:50

Good morning, everyone 🌤️
Been sick most of the week. 🤧🤒
Managed to make blueberry pancakes for the kids this morning, though. Needed to put some effort in.
Made myself an iced latte. Gave it a bit of a caramel drizzle.

Sorry to hear you’re ill @Mumtobabyhavoc - it’s not Covid again, is it? Have you managed to see a doctor? Thinking of you feeling ill with 2 small children to look after 🫩

Thanks @HildaTablet
I think it's likely a version of Covid as that's typically what seems to go round all year now and I had the very sore throat that is a hallmark of it. But, it's not severe, thankfully. It's improving. Kids are okay as far as I can tell, but both slept a lot over a couple afternoons earlier this week and they have been sneezing.

Decided to make pizza for dinner:
pesto, crab, spinach, feta and pineapple with Gouda and Swiss cheese on top. The crust is perfectly crisp on the bottom and light and fluffy on top.
Had a crunchy salad for lunch of grape tomatoes, cucumber, yellow bell pepper, feta and Olive Harden vinaigrette. It was very refreshing. ☺️

Oooh that looks delish! Where do you get shredded crab from? I can never see it in my local supermarkets..only ever found it in Poundland with mayonnaise..is it a Waitrose thing?

Hope you're feeling better. Go you, making pancakes when poorly. My DD gets a deliveroo McDonald's when I'm under the weather and I just about manage to put the rubbish from it away..

Deathraystare · 02/08/2025 12:11

@Mumtobabyhavoc
I guess you may be feeling a bit better if you had some dinner or was it just for the kids?
I think it must be the worst thing to feel crap but you have to keep going for your kids!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/08/2025 17:26

Good morning everyone 😷🤧
Still sick. Kids are sneezing a lot more and I'm hoping that will be the extent of it for them. Woke up at ten to eight, got dc sorted, did a sinus rinse, put a load of laundry on and cleaned the bathroom. Havoc is parked in front of the tv with a 1980's episode of Sesame Street on YT. I'm nursing baby and scrolling.

Cosy, thanks for the cheer. I'm pretty sure it's bloody Covid with the way the symptoms are so up and down. Have had it multiple times, unfortunately. 🫩 I was feeling better so took advantage of having energy. I feel so dehydrated again, though.
The crab is tinned and the brand is Cloverleaf. Fresh is not worth wasting on pizza, or baking in general, imo. I'm in Canada. I buy it in a 4 or 5 pack from Costco, but it is available in regular grocery stores here. I also use it in quiche and only for baking. You really have to squeeze all the water out, too, btw. Use paper towels.

Death, yeah, it's pretty hard pushing through when sick. I'm lucky that I can get help from my mum, but it's limited. I'll get up with the kids and get them sorted, breakfast etc and she can sit with them so I can go back to bed. It's a life saver. Only made it to med appts this week. Kids haven't been taken out anywhere. Lots of chaos inside and tv.

I think my sense of smell has gone. I bloody love my food, as everyone knows here and my appetite is still ok, bit not as enjoyable when you can't taste/smell 😂
I brewed a pot of tea last night with 3 tea bags and have let it steep over night for mint iced tea today.

I hope everyone is having a good Saturday. 😄.
It's sunny and 18c here. Supposed to get up to 25c.

Haha that sounds so exciting! I have a hand powered one and I wished I'd just paid the extra 20 or whatever for an electric one, because now my papers just sit underneath it waiting for me to be in the mood to manually shred them 😂

@Mumtobabyhavoc oooh I don't think we have much in the way of tinned crab over here...maybe at one of the more fancy supermarkets, I'll have to have a look. Are you Canadian living in Canada? Just looked back through your posts for some cooking inspiration and love that you're always on the go with your little ones. Hope you're feeling better.

Me and dd are back home from London and my house feels so big and empty after being in a tiny flat for five nights. There's a little train thing near my house built by a hobby group and they let people have rides on it on the weekends in summer, I might try and entice DD to that but she's pretty sure she only wants to play Roblox after being separated from the laptop all week. İn the meantime, I'm.enjoying lots of Duolingo and lazing around.

MyrtleLion · 03/08/2025 12:51

I had a gastroscopy yesterday and everything was fine. I slept a little in the afternoon after the sedation and had a great night’s sleep. My throat and chest are a little sore today from swallowing the camera etc, but I’m sure I’ll be fine is a few days.

mathanxiety · 04/08/2025 02:00

Sending good wishes for a complete recovery to everyone feeling horrible. I lost 5 lbs last weekend and during the week as all I could stomach was toast and very small helpings of food. I felt well enough yesterday to make lasagna and have a piece, and there was plenty left for me and DD today, with tomorrow a possibility too.

DD is now making chocolate chip cookies that are supposedly the world's best. The cookie dough balls will be refrigerated overnight.

I had a busy weekend capped by my usual 6am weekday alarm going off two hours before today's alarm, and just as I was settling back to snooze an hour later, my mum phoned with a problem that could have been solved by a phone call to a shop in the village where she lives. She hung up and then called me back half an hour later to say everything was sorted out and to thank me for my advice. A lie in was clearly not going to happen, so I got up, had a cup of tea, and was on the couch starting to doze again when the actual alarm I had set went off. So much for the day of rest. The church an hour later was very stuffy but the congregation was in good voice.

Good news about your AC, MissC.
