My DC school has just sent a begging letter saying they are desperate for funds ., they already get good parent donations they said the teacher pay rise is only partly funded so they have had to cut pastoral care and other stuff , not replace roles when people leave and so on.
They said pupil funding was extremely low in the light of inflation.
It was a begging desperate letter.

But 60p crappy breakfasts have fixed everything??

Gosh, that sounds serious. What a worry. Have they said how much they need? Presumably this is a secondary?

We had that quite recently. I’ve had dc in schools for ages and it’s the first time 😭

Plus the lollipop person being made redundant, a few areas doing this.

So reduced funds and reduced safety. Great from Labour.

On the one hand, I'd rather just drop the charade and make a direct donation than keep buying inedible, overpriced picked-over fairy cakes but this is a worry. And of course they'll drop the pastoral staff over teaching staff but this is going to impact send students the most - it's so brutal.

TheNuthatch · 17/07/2025 13:57

@TwoTierBbq That's really sad. Things must be desperate for the school if they're being so brutally honest like that.

Gosh that was grim reading.

It's in a very rich town ( not our town ) and gets lots of wealrhy parents help it's never been in trouble before.

Arrearing50 · 17/07/2025 14:51

I know ptas raise a lot these days but they’ll never in most places be able to fund staff.

And it just shows how much wealth inequality exists in state schools ie through parental contributions

TwoTierBbq · 17/07/2025 16:56

If this school is struggling what shape are others in !? It must be absolutely dire with the ni hit and a partly funded pay rise.

EasternStandard · 17/07/2025 17:37

Ours has very good parental involvement. And is in dire straits with similar letter. I haven’t idea how other schools are coping rn

TheNuthatch · 17/07/2025 18:07

Diane Abbot has been suspended. Good.

Our school seems to be doing okay (or at least it's is doing a good job of pretending it is). It's a fairly new building so maybe it's spared some of the maintenance and heating costs of older buildings and I'm not sure if it being an academy makes a difference?

Yes. I see it's for her 'views on racism' - it sounds better than anti-Semitism I suppose?

Bigot Phillipson is coning for academies, don't worry!

Yes, I know. The changes to the curriculum and the drive to make everywhere the same is going to be really hard for my upcoming y7.

They may as well say why. If they had the courage.

TheNuthatch · 17/07/2025 20:17

I'm hiding on here. The anti Semitism on MN makes me feel sick!

@EasternStandard It's behind a paywall, can you share an overview?

OP posts:
TwoTierBbq · 17/07/2025 20:51

How does labour think already broken schools are going to self fund a massive pay rise and cope with the ni challenges ?

I find Dianne very hard to listen too I can't grasp her logic or thinking in that I don't think anyone comes out a winner with the way she frames things

TwoTierBbq · 17/07/2025 20:57

A billion has been given to the sector to help with the national insurance costs buts it's still left massive funding gaps.

Here I'm going to punch you in the face and give you one ice cube to numb the blow.

We really are doomed aren't we. Thank goodness the tribal red wall of voting has been broken, we may have a slim chance of change in the next election.
