The Lib Dem's Daisy Cooper has called on the government to reverse the jobs tax after today's unemployment figures.

It seems everyone can see it, except Starmer and Reeves.

They’re too arrogant and clueless to get it.

Smirk, bully, deny.

Arrearing50 · 17/07/2025 09:53

Absolutely - why have we ended up with these talentless bruisers…

twistyizzy · 17/07/2025 10:18

Adjusting for inflation, average wage is now at 2008 levels 🙄

A good description

Voting age to be lowered to 16! Gerrymandering by Labour but my child who has been vilified by Bigot Phillipson won't be voting Labour, neither will any of the eligible kids in independent schools or their parents!

Doesn't this just cement Reform and Andrew Tate?

EasternStandard · 17/07/2025 11:04

Haha bring it on. Go on Corbyn get in there. And I’m sure Reform will have takers on the other side.

TheNuthatch · 17/07/2025 11:15

@twistyizzy I thought young people didn't vote, its nuanced 😉.

@EasternStandard Spot on! They haven't met many 16 year olds if they think they'll vote Labour.

Bring it Labour, you idiots. We'll all head to the polling station after school pick-up 😂. Jezza is waiting in the wings, and Reform are leading on TikTok.

They only don’t vote when they don’t like Labour anymore 😬

So is the next voter intention polling going to include 12 and 13 year olds? 😂

Upstartled · 17/07/2025 12:17

🤣

I also think this could be a bit of an own goal for Labour. In the last g.e 18 - 24 years olds weren't as enthusiastic about labour as the next age category up. It would be interesting if there were more granular detail and if there was a split between the younger and older voters in that category.

Who do they think has been having the lions share of these children since the global financial crash when the birth rate really began to tumble? Is it the city dwelling Labour loving metropolitan progressives - or is it the hippies (for whom Labour is too right wing) and Conservatives (for whom Labour is a considered a financial car crash)?

EasternStandard · 17/07/2025 12:35

The manifesto pledge was pre GE so Reform wasn’t as much of a threat and Corbyn’s party not thought of.

They’ll go through with it but the indication from polling shows stronger support for Corbyn in the younger age range. We’ll see on Reform.

Shows how craven Starmer is to stay in, so it’ll be funny if it gets him chucked out instead.

We can but hope.

Ooo there may be more rebellions 😂😂

Arrearing50 · 17/07/2025 12:40

I’m wondering what labour are offering young people really, not a whole lot…crap jobs, low wages, tonnes of debt. Yeah, I won’t vote for that thanks!

we may be about to see the old adage that younger voters are more likely to vote labour being torn up.

EasternStandard · 17/07/2025 12:42

I’m looking forward to the further left mobilising as a competitor. They’ll do well imo, especially with 16 to 17 age group.

Who’d want stodgy Starmer when you can have some hope for something new. They won’t get in but they’ll erode Labour’s core vote.

Exactly. What picture of the future do Labour paint = no aspiration, taxes and a life of drudgery. Urgh no thanks

Upstartled · 17/07/2025 12:55

YouGov

Reform 28 (+2)
Labour 22 (-2)
Conservatives (17)
Lib Dems (16)

Yep. I’d vote for anything but that.

They’ve got nothing good to sell to a 16 / 17 year old.

TwoTierBbq · 17/07/2025 13:35

My DC school has just sent a begging letter saying they are desperate for funds ., they already get good parent donations they said the teacher pay rise is only partly funded so they have had to cut pastoral care and other stuff , not replace roles when people leave and so on.
They said pupil funding was extremely low in the light of inflation.
It was a begging desperate letter.
