Crikey, 15% each!
Yes they are focused on the wrong enemy. I suppose it's just 'attack the tories' auto pilot, as we see on here every day. They can't help themselves.

Maybe it was better in opposition. Just tories daily auto pilot and no one would question their party.

Bet Reeves is "surprised" by this, almost as if increasing costs for employers costs people jobs....🙄

twistyizzy · 17/07/2025 07:46

Listening to Jess Phillips on BBC, the woman can hardly string a sentence together. It's cringeworthy and just a load of word salad with every other word being "erm" "uh" etc

Arrearing50 · 17/07/2025 08:02

It’s not defensible is it? They’ve directly added to the pain on all businesses…

EasternStandard · 17/07/2025 08:30

Interesting take down of Starmer’s actions by John McTernan as crass and bullying

She was poor I agree. I saw her Sky interview and it was the same as you've described.
I was surprised when the interviewer asked her what she thought of the suspended MPs behaviour described as 'persistent knobheadery', on breakfast TV!

He wrote on X
'If you have saved the government from itself it is shocking that you get punished for doing the right thing'

Such a mistake. It’s filtering through all the figures and people’s lives

I saw Rachael Maskell being interviewed about that statement and she was obviously incredulous and disgusted

Unemployment figures out just now. More bad news, although sadly unsurprising given Labour’s tax raids on businesses.

Awful and unsurprising. They have no clue.

She looked deeply upset didn't she? At least she's got principles and a conscience, unlike Starmer.

It is disgusting - I had no idea who Rachael Maskell was when I read her piece about the impact of VAT on small private schools in York, she really can think and stand up for her constituents.

Starmer and Reeves might be out after the autumn budget at this rate…they don’t have control of the message, can’t frame anything positively and can’t inspire anyone…politics has to have some hope!

Arrearing50 · 17/07/2025 08:54

Meanwhile the rest of them were chucking out boilerplate responses after weeks…

Yes I don't agree with her politics but I can respect her listening to her constituents and putting them over party. Starmer doesn't want those types of MPs though.

Arrearing50 · 17/07/2025 09:00

No he doesn’t - I expect this was a shot across the bows ahead of the education bill…because god forbid they could actually change or try and persuade people…

several labour mps don’t like the reintroduction of curriculum control as devolving it has worked so well for their area.

we’ve got a top down public sector knows best unshakeable mentality here…

that’s what impressed me really, my local labour MP didn’t engage at all.

Yes I think you're right about the education bill.

The welfare bill was a disaster. The government clearly hadn't done the work needed so the rebel MPs were right to stand their ground on this.

For Starmer to then wait until the dust had settled, then go in for the kill makes him look pathetic. He wants clones, but that's not democracy. I hope it backfires on him.

The Lib Dem's Daisy Cooper has called on the government to reverse the jobs tax after today's unemployment figures.

It seems everyone can see it, except Starmer and Reeves.

Arrearing50 · 17/07/2025 09:37

Sadly this pile of educational dross may well go through as ruining teens lives by forcing them to do subjects they’ve no interest in doesn’t emote as well as welfare. It’s terrible policy though…

Upstartled · 17/07/2025 09:42

I'll put my optimistic hat on and hope the academies and free schools might be able to drag their heels long enough with legal challenges that it will barely be rolled out before we have a new government...we can hope, right?
