I mean what do we their actual slogan is ‘cock ups made, u-turns delivered, even higher taxes to come’?

The government was reckless to assume that they could lean on blind loyalty to push the bill through without all of the scaffolding around it, the Timms review, the co-production, any decent pr to sell the policy to members and their constituents.

This has completely blown up in their face, it's demonstrated weakness that can be explored by the backbenchers and it will save no money, in fact - now it will cost more.

You'd think losing double digit polling intentions after only a year in office - a feat not managed since the 90s under Major - would be rock bottom but this is going to be brutal. And we'll all be paying for this shambles in the next budget.

Yeah I completely agree, I was surprised that with something as sensitive as welfare reform they didn’t do a proper review and consultation process. The tories tend to have done their homework on it a bit because they will definitely get called horrible tory scum for pretty much anything. I was quite surprised they hadn’t put any work into it (as in actual work or talking to their backbenchers).

I actually think it’s also really irresponsible as a way to run government. I want the benefit bill to come down but I also expect politicians to have a careful think about what consequences may come from changes.

Not directed to the pp, so not replying to that but musing to others on thread.

Just something I’ve noticed on various pro Labour threads. Constant attacks on female Tory politicians all day long. Then hypocrisy over this.

Edited

As a brown woman my favourite is when they point out that tories are sometimes not white. It’s actually amazing to me that race shouldn’t be an issue unless you are doing something that I don’t approve of and then your race is very much an issue. So much hypocrisy.

This shit that Badenoch has had to put up in terms of insults that that land almost exclusively on not being white is eye opening. They did the same to Patel, do you remember that awful Guardian cartoon? Dreadful.

Yeah it’s race traitor talk, it’s foul and patronising. Criticise on performance or ability not on someomes skin colour. They really can’t see how awful they truly are sometimes.

Don’t know if any of these people have ever met many Nigerians or Indians, conservative values are pretty common.

Absolutely, it’s rife on here.

I agree with you. It’s so bad.

It was on the official Keir Starmer x feed under ‘promises made, promises delivered’

Good lord. Talk about tone deaf. I bet RR was thrilled when she saw that. As I said earlier, her enemies are beside and behind her.

@Arrearing50
Thank you, that's an excellent piece by Tom Peck, which sums up my feelings perfectly. He absolutely nails it. Slapping photos of the whole sorry event on social media straight after, as some sort of flex is deplorable imo.

I didn't think I could despise Starmer more than I already do.....until I watched him yesterday.

Same. It’s quite an achievement considering.

On the upside, the disapproving bellyaching does give us plenty of opportunity to revisit and flesh out the full breadth of our distain for this government. So it's a thank you from me @CinnamonSquirrels

Exactly…

We all saw his true character yesterday, explained beautifully in that Times article.

Today, Reeves is third-wheeling with Starmer and Streeting at a health centre, when its quite obvious that she shouldnt be there. All so that Starmer can hug her on camera. Fuck off Starmer, we see you.

Amid Rachel Reeves’s loneliness, Starmer finds sympathy a step too far

times sketch writer nails it.

It’s exactly how he treat Rosie wrt women’s rights and women have penises baloney. No surprise that the leader of the Labour Party, hates women. Labour Party hate women.

He really does. You can see it when he jeers at Kemi every week and how he speaks to women generally.

And the wonderful Jane caller.

CinnamonSquirrels · 03/07/2025 12:28

Clearly it was in error. Nobody would do that deliberately. What would be the point?

Yes. She’s a woman. And a youngish black woman to boot. As far as Starmer is concerned, he’ll never respect her.

The Labour supporters have really embarrassed themselves in this last year.

Where Labour, and Labour MPs have been truly atrocious, they remain mute, more or less. A few token bleats but nonetheless they remain inexplicably loyal to the memories of what once was a decent party (agree with their policies then or not).

They’ve continued on and on with the energy source that keeps them going - criticising others. It’s all they can do bless them. They don’t what else to do.

It really is bizarre how mobilised pro Labour are on this but add the boot to all this stuff.

I would be surprised but by now it’s pretty usual.

TheNuthatch · 03/07/2025 21:32

Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana are starting a new political party. If all of Jeza's groupies join them, they'll have more MPs than Reform 😂. Happy anniversary Starmer.

Haha. I loved this headline popping up on my phone.

Go on Jezza

TheNuthatch · 04/07/2025 08:39

Oh dear. It seems that nobody thought to send Jezza a whatsapp. 😂 Great start.

OP posts:
Upstartled · 04/07/2025 08:43

First rule of Jezza Labour, there is no Jezza Labour 😂

EasternStandard · 04/07/2025 08:46

Not sure someone has quoted ITV and Corbyn. Waits for confirmation

One year in for Labour. The best thing about them is this thread 😬

The usual stuff elsewhere.

They’re not doing great after the first year. Hopefully Jezza does turn up to dial up the pressure.

TheNuthatch · 04/07/2025 08:59

Yes I saw that Eastern. Reading the piece in the guardian, I think it's from a Peston interview he did, but it was before Sultana's announcement.

What a year its been. I thought labour would be terrible but they have exceeded my expectations. I was going to ask you all for your highs and lows of the past year, but I honestly can't think of any highs. Thank goodness for this thread.

OP posts:
EasternStandard · 04/07/2025 09:16

The highs are when we’ve laughed at stuff. Not Labour related but the night Trump did the leader board for tariffs still makes me laugh now when I think of it.

So funny. Really cracks me up remembering the posts.

Starmer and co are as I thought they would be pre GE. A slow motion car crash.
