Android Update! Everything is different and I HATE change!

My Samsung Android phone did a system update last night. Absolutely everything looks different whether it's the text on FB, my app icons, even the battery percentage!! I Absolutely do not like change and this has made me irrationally angry! Anyone else?

You can change it in setting, lock screen then scroll down to where it says 'looking for something else' and select edit lock screen and tap on the clock. Then select style and choose the one you want.

Thabk you for this one. Has been driving me crazy as I could not see the time.

swipe down, look for pen icon, then panel settings then it says separate or all together

Omg you're the best! Thank you!

So yesterday I was on a call to my boss, when my phone suddenly announced to both of us that I had started recording our call! My boss of course was like "ermm why are you recording our phone call?". So I don't know if maybe there's a button for recording and maybe my face pressed it when I was talking? But it was really embarrassing!

Has anyone i stalled the new update? Maybe it helps the battery life?! The battery drains ridiculously fast!

Lindy2 · 06/07/2025 12:44

So DH's phone has just gone and done the update and now his photos aren't saving. 😣

Whenever he takes a photo it just flashes up "unsupported file" and the photo disappears. It was working absolutely fine before.

Any ideas anyone? What a useless update.

Phone is no longer running hot, but battery life is buggered 😭 I only got this damn thing earlier this year. I'd have got another pixel if I'd known Galaxies had gone rubbish. I'm constantly having to carry my charging lead around with me.

SerendipityJane · 06/07/2025 17:33

If you rely on your phone, I really would strongly recommend staying as old as is humanly possible (I use a Galaxy A7 from 2918, myself).

The same goes for PCs and Windows.

Also disable every occurrence of auto-update you find.

Remember - you are the testers for these versions. Why do you think they are free.

Pity anyone who relies on the accessibility features. They are probably well fucked until a friend can help.

The updates contain security patches though. It's important to keep the phone safe. Anti-virus and whatever need updating.

If a "security" patch changes the UX, then it wasn't a security patch. It was an upgrade smuggled in under a false flag.

I'd call that malware myself 😀

Anti virus just needs the definitions updating. Shouldn't affect the UX.

(The trick is to ensure your lash up has a small entry in the lists of "top 10 whatevers" - because baddies are always looking at the greatest possible pool of victims. Believe you me, if you are running a 2012 Motorola on Android Jellybean, then no one - no one - is targeting you. 😎)

When I run servers, I always stay one step behind. Someone else can do the testing for me.

Forced updates that change everything on phone making it very difficult to navigate to the sites I need and the Ai that decided that it knew better what apps I wanted and then "optimized" them , you got it wrong, and the only solution is for me to spend hours resetting everything to the way it was or spend hours learning the new interface, thanks for nothing Google, thanks for taking more time out of my life to learn some stupid useless info when I have very little time left..

I wonder if non-AI devices might start attracting a premium ?

LoafofSellotape · 12/07/2025 20:34

I updated my Pixel and haven't found any difference so far-thank goodness!

BollickyBill · 15/07/2025 14:56

Does anyone know how to get rid of the call recording icon from screen when you're on a call? I keep hitting off it with my fat cheek and then it records. I can be doing with out that now to be honest.

sparrowflewdown · 15/07/2025 22:26

I have used my monthly allowance of mobile data in 9 days! This has never happened before. I called o2 and they said it can happen with system updates. Has anyone else has this problem? I have looked at my data usage and it seems the new AI systems are using a lot of data so I have disabled them.

I've had this appear today. Pressing "Cancel Recording" doesn't seem to work. Please can someone tell me how to disable it?

I've noticed the increased data usage too and also my battery draining much more quickly. Having to charge up a couple of times a day now!

Will have a look at what's been added to the system by the update (usually a load of games and apps that I don't want 🙄)

SayLaveee · 16/07/2025 07:26

The battery suck is incredible. My old Galaxy could run until the end of the working day even with intense use

It's almost like you don't own your phone, isn't it ?

How do you disable the ai systems? Is it just in settings?

Bingbangboo · 16/07/2025 13:49

I'm having to charge my phone mid way through the day now too and keep getting data usage warnings. I can't even work out what it is that's running in the background because everything is different. I hate it!

If you go to settings then connections and then mobile data usage it will show you how much the apps are using and then you can turn them off.

sparrowflewdown · 17/07/2025 18:27

I have also found that removing the cache and data has extended my battery life further. Go to settings>device care>storage and delete cache and data and then restart the phone.

Tcateh · 26/07/2025 17:20

Hello

Please help me.

All my open apps are now stacked on top of each other.
I cannot find out how to change it to just swiping to select them.

😫

JohnTheRevelator · 26/07/2025 17:27

Tell me about it. My Motorola did an update a few weeks ago and I'm still getting used to it. But that's probably because I'm old 😂

DorothyWainwright · 26/07/2025 17:29

Mine hasn't updated yet 🫣
