Aye. Just perfect for a damp Sunday morning.

I'm sure there will be much condemnation while still selling weapons to Israel.

PandoraSocks · 22/06/2025 09:13

Not much condemnation from Starmer.

"Iran’s nuclear programme is a grave threat to international security. Iran can never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon and the US has taken action to alleviate that threat. The situation in the Middle East remains volatile and stability in the region is a priority. We call on Iran to return to the negotiating table and reach a diplomatic solution to end this crisis"

But at least it has been confirmed that the UK wasn't involved in any way, though the US plans were known about.

DuncinToffee · 22/06/2025 09:46

Pandering to 🍊🌮 fragile ego

The Nato meeting must be interesting.

Fuck

Farage, predictably, is right up the 🍊 backside. As is Sunak. And Badenoch, although who cares what she thinks.

DuncinToffee · 22/06/2025 09:55

I am surprised by Sunak, Badenoch/Patel was already calling for the UK to join Israel earlier this week

Jonathan Reynolds confirms UK was not involved in strikes. It appears the US jets flew from Missouri rather than the base in the Chagos Islands, Diego Garcia

I think really the UK and EU are pretty marginal on this; it’s not like we have power over the US.

The statement is really about saying, don’t attack UK military bases in Cyprus. The authorities there detained an Iranian spy a few days ago on suspicion of planning an act of terrorism on a RAF base.

Cobra meeting called for this afternoon.

I presume Starmer won't do a Boris and not bother turning up...

DuncinToffee · 22/06/2025 12:44

Or Lammy claiming the sea was closed......

Dear Leader 🍊🌮 posters popping up everywhere 🚨

With a distinct lack of nuance, except where it's useful for minimising.

LlttledrummergirI · 22/06/2025 14:24

If you don't agree with fuckwits bombings, you are a supporter of Iran.

How thick do you have to be to follow that shit

It is infuriating.

DuncinToffee · 22/06/2025 15:35

No use engaging with anyone who claims the Dear Leader has made the world a safer place.

countrygirl99 · 22/06/2025 15:58

They all forget that people don't always respond the way you want them to and who actually thinks that the Dear Leader has bothered to game plan all possible responses?

PandoraSocks · 22/06/2025 19:39

I have hidden all the Iran threads. It is pointless arguing with some posters. And the bots (sorry MNHQ, if lurkers report, but some posters are, on both sides of the discussions).

Deafnotdumb · 22/06/2025 20:17

Reading through some of the more thoughtful pieces on Substack (analysts, historians etc), the consensus is that Isreal will keep bombing Iran until its ballistic missile capability is gone. The problem is, destroying Israel is central to the whole hardline doctrine. Unless Netanyahu engineers a regime change (anyone recall the last time that went well?), Iran will rebuild.

The nightmare scenario is Iran fragmenting, either because the regime becomes too weakened to control the periphery regions or it is decapitated and there's no-one to replace them. Pretty much Iraq 2.0.

Do you have any links to the thoughtful pieces, please @deafnotdumb? I could really do with reading some calm analysis!

LlttledrummergirI · 22/06/2025 21:06

I'm watching the emergency un meeting on BBC. It's mindblowing that China sounds like the voice of reason. Telling all parties they need to have an immediate ceasefire. Russia are still to come, but being hypercritical, I can imagine them doing the same.

Under normal circumstances I'd expect us to vote in favour of an immediate ceasefire, however, voting with China against the USA seems fucked up. Is it just me that thinks the world has turned on it's head?

Russia is taking firm aim at the American leadership, saying they had no interest in diplomacy. They did hit out at the UK as well though, so some surety in normality there.Confused

I think Trump has managed to piss off the entire world leadership.

LlttledrummergirI · 22/06/2025 21:14

The United States is not giving a good case for attacking Iran- they are saying its in defence of America and Israel. I've had to pause it for now but Confused
