Have I left it to late hair

I'm going on holiday on Wednesday. I was going to dye my hair in the hope I won't look in my 90s. But I just read this chlorine can make it go green. Fade etc . That's for permanent and semi.

I also had a brain wave to do reverse perm so my hair his straight for a longer period of time.

So now sure what to do because of timing. And the haot going green and not sure I can even do both.

To note : i can't do it via hair dressers. I'm not using hair straighteners. As a one of I will if I do reverse perm. There are reasons for this but it's to much to go into.

Also if I go for a copper color will is look orange in the white parts of my hair

What colour do you want to dye it? I've only heard of blonde colours going green.
I've dyed my hair before holidays before with no issues, I use brown colours. I wouldn't dye it the day before or anything but a week before is fine.

I'm intrigued into the reasons for no hair straighteners?

I neglect myself alot . I wont keep it up . I thought whilst im going throgh a period of trying to look better. To make it something that will last and I can just stick a brush throgh it.

You don't need to keep it up for longer than a week surely for the duration of the holiday?

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 06/06/2025 09:58

Don’t use perming solution on hair with bleach - I’m not sure if you have bleach or not from your OP, but perming solution + bleach is a very bad idea.

Plus chlorine = very bad idea.

I won't it though. And it would be nice to look less trampy when I'm back. Also I will be in the pool etc so pointless straighting it. But if it wad more of a permanent thing I could probably just put a brush thorough it

I'm confused now . Is it don't use perming solution due to going on the pool . Or is it don't use hair dye due to going on the pool or both ?

Bleach can go green with chlorine, you can get colour corrections from Amazon if it happens. No clue re perming. I think they are called Malibu

Beyondburnout · 06/06/2025 10:09

What colour us your hair. It gas some grey? Natural instincts is quite a good semi permanent gair colour.

I just wouldn't be putting a load of chemicals on my hair not knowing what I was doing a few days before a holiday. Go get a trim and take some straighteners with you.

Says someone that clearly doesn't suffer crippling depression.

Who has crippling depression?

I think you are being optimisitic about how long the home reverse perm will last

I'm not stepping into a hair dressers or having one come to me. I do not feel comfortable with that and the thought of it feels awful.

I would concentrate on the condition as it looks a bit dry. You could make the most of being in the pool and it being wet to leave in a nice leave-in treatment, slick it back and it will be conditioning it while you have a lounge by the pool etc.

I would absolutely NOT do perming chemical + hair dye this close together. I think you’re supposed to wait a week after perming before colouring.

I always admire you @Youagain2025 because you really get stuck in and give things a go!

fairgame84 · 06/06/2025 10:58

I think your hair looks a bit dry but it's got a nice wave to it, it doesn't look really curly. It might frizz up in the heat so maybe take some frizz ease just to tame it a little if you don't want to straighten it.

I would stick a semi permanent brown on if that was my hair but I'm no expert and I'm a bit chill about dye going wrong as I'm happy to wear a hat and always use semipermanent dye in case I mess up.

You need to pick either colour or reverse perm, I wouldn't do both so close together without a hairdresser.

Well there's nothing that can be done then really is there?
When did you last have it cut?

So could I just do they dye part of it . Because even if I just forget the straightening side of it I could at least try get rid of that great/white bit.

And thank you . This bit feels harder because it feels much more personal 😓
