I've never watched Sex and the city.
I've never read Harry potter.

Is there anything you haven't read or watched.
Sometimes I think things are over hyped.

Never read To Kill a Mockingbird
Never seen Dirty Dancing

You haven't lived !

"Dirty dancing" is fantastic.

MummytoE · 05/06/2025 16:25

Never watched Game of Thrones or any of these ridiculous dating shows that seem to dominate TV ( love island, married at first sight)
Never read any Shakespeare

I've never even heard of ACOTAR !

Read book one just so you can get to book two…
Then thank me later!

Sorry ACOTAR- A Court Of Thorns And Roses series.

Thanks - MN prob not the target market for romantasy!

We gave up after 1 episode.

I think it's because we'd just watched the Fall of the House of Usher and it felt a lot like that but without the hideous deaths so we felt like we were missing something 🤣

We just found the characters all so deeply unpleasant, and just decided we didn’t need to spend hours of our lives with people without a redeeming feature to their names!

Even with White Lotus there’s someone who’s vaguely nice.

Sometimes I come too late to the party, eg game of Thrones, and I can't be bothered to start at the beginning when the whole thing has long since finished.

Oh, I started G.O.T. again only the other day. Much better the second time round (though did notice Khal Drogo's army looked a little liked wimpy sols with pony tails). Totally enjoying Succession even if it is 'old' lol. Was years late to Breaking Bad, thoroughly enjoyed that too! And Better Call Saul. And Mad Men. And these shows actually gave me some want to watch TV. I haven't ever seen that much that grabs my attention - so restored my faith in the medium.

Never read War and Peace, all of the Bible, all of the Quran. But then again I'm not much of a completer finisher!

Never read Ulysses 🤣

Never watched Below Deck or Married At First Sight.

I know I had to read ulysess in 6th form, but all I remembered of it was wishing the bloody woman at the end of the book would just shut up with her stream of consciousness. And when we had to do Wide Sargasso Sea afterwards, she was only marginally less annoying by being drippy instead.

It was a right letdown after the greek sagas I read for pleasure.

Actually, that would have been Dubliners. That's how memorable Ulysses was.

Squirrelsnut · 05/06/2025 16:35

Dirty Dancing. I tried.
Mad Max - any.
50 Shades
Never read any Hardy or Lawrence.

Courgettezuchinni · 05/06/2025 16:36

LOTR
Coronation Street
Eastenders - too grim

Summeriscumin · 05/06/2025 16:38

Never watched reality shit like Love Island and Drag race.

Never read a Mills and Boon.

Really? They’re aimed predominantly at women so I’d say it is the target market 🤷🏼‍♀️

I thought they were aimed at teenage girls.

@HighLadyofTheNightCourt - I read the first one and it was bloody awful, so I didn’t try the second! Do they improve much?

Dragonriders of Pern books were so, so much better. Actually, almost all fantasy I’ve read was so much better.

The main character is a late teen isn’t she? I assumed ACOTAR was aimed at teen readers tbh.

The second book is brilliant. IMO anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️
Definitely not for teenage girls. Book 2 and 5 are particularly ‘spicy’… to use the terminology often used around these books!

No. She’s in her early twenties.
They get quite explicit (especially book 2&5) and deal with themes around DV and trauma.
They’re not high brow literature but I found them great escapism.
I also really enjoyed fourth wing.

NormasArse · 05/06/2025 16:49

I haven’t seen most of the things listed!

I loved LOTR and The Hobbit as a kid though, and I read all of the Harry Potter books with my own children.

MatildaMovesMountains · 05/06/2025 15:42

Never read Harry Potter, never intend to. Can't stand Jo Rowling. Never ever watch sports or quiz shows.

What’s wrong with Jo Rowling? She’s an amazing woman.

ERthree · 05/06/2025 16:51

Have watched very few films and tv shows. I read lots but if a book doesn't grab me within the first chapter i close it. With girl on the train i didn't even manage the first chapter.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 05/06/2025 16:54

Never seen Titanic (just clips) and still managed to get an A* in Film Studies with this as my main topic.
Line of Duty, Most reality programmes, Drag Race. Not read any of the Fairy Porn genre, though I did put one on audible for my bedtime book, asleep before end of chapter 1.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 05/06/2025 16:54

ThatLimeCat · 05/06/2025 16:19

Not to be a wanker, but I'm not a TV person and haven't watched most big deal shows. No Mad Men, Succession, Handmaid's Tale etc etc. I think most of them look stupid as well. Whenever someone starts telling me about a show I zone out.

I love telly, but i haven’t seen any of those programs either; or White Lotus, people seem to go ga-ga over it.

GoT was great, but all the very gratuitous sex scenes were pretty tedious.
And there were far too many characters to keep track of.
I’ve watched the whole thing twice and there are still characters that i’m none the wiser about.

Mollysocks · 05/06/2025 16:57

The Wire - I tried, 3 times, but got bored after a few episodes. I don’t get it. None of the characters seem interesting or even likeable. I like having someone to ‘root for’. It’s meant to be up there as one of the best TV Series.

Come on, you know she’s an evil witch and bully.😉
(she’s a Virtuous Woman. Iykyk.)

Mollysocks · 05/06/2025 16:59

If we are talking films though and not just TV, I haven’t seen the following ‘classics’ and people often can’t believe it:

Jaws
The Shining
Lion King
Pulp Fiction
Independence Day

I realise I need to watch them all…
