I have done something really stupid! Do I really need medical help?

I can go into the details if needed but I have a wad of toilet paper stuck up my nose! About a 1/4 of a square sheet if it matters.

it’s totally gone, can’t see it with a torch and trying to blow my nose does nothing. I can’t even feel it.

FFS do I really have to go to the Dr as a 43 year old and tell them this? What’s the worst that can happen if I ignore it?

Have you not swallowed it?

Gonk123 · 25/05/2025 19:11

Yes go! You don’t want it stuck and infected…it’ll not take them long and hopefully you can laugh about it after. Good luck x

diddlydooda · 25/05/2025 19:28

I would certainly leave it til tomorrow and see if it works its own way out.

You need to seek medical help, immediately really. It could cause nasal obstruction/infection if left. ENT will easily sort it I’m sure. Good luck!

Yes - go. You don't want to mess with your head/brain in that respect.

Brain!! 😂

Sera1989 · 25/05/2025 19:38

I would treat it similar to something stuck in the ear. It needs to come out as soon as possible in case it gets infected, but I wouldn’t class it as a medical emergency on a Sunday night. I wouldn’t feel concerned about leaving it til first thing tomorrow and I wouldn’t be particularly worried about my brain like a PP has suggested

Pinkelephant66 · 25/05/2025 19:39

I’m sure people have been to A&E with much worse…more than likely with objects stuffed up their bum

Openthisdoor · 25/05/2025 19:40

I know you said you can’t- but just how?

HScully · 25/05/2025 19:41

Are you sure it hasn't dropped out?

FloraBotticelli · 25/05/2025 19:41

I wouldn’t want to risk breathing it in overnight but then I’m a worrier!

Brain!! 😂

Er...yes.

Things stuck up your nose can cause infections and issues with your sinuses, which can, in rare circumstances, cause issues with the brain. You don't want to mess with stuff like that - just like you don't want to mess with ears or eyes.

Blackdow · 25/05/2025 19:46

Are you breathing clearly? You’d know if something was up there. Did you swallow it? It could have dissolved a bit and been sealed in pieces?

How did it get so far up?

4naans · 25/05/2025 19:47

Get someone to blow in your mouth and close the other nostril like like with kids

TheHappyBug · 25/05/2025 19:47

It’s probably gone down your throat into your stomach. A Quarter of a square of toilet paper would disintegrate anyway surely.

AndSoFinally · 25/05/2025 19:49

I probably wouldn't bother. If it's just a small piece it's likely to disintegrate. Try some saline nasal spray to help it along a bit.

Obviously if you develop pain, swelling, or a persistent discharge, then you would need to go and see your GP

JDM625 · 25/05/2025 19:49

Am I the only one wondering why you had toilet paper it up there??? Nose bleed, dripping nose, some other reason???

AndSoFinally · 25/05/2025 19:49

I think your brain is safe for now 😊

saveforthat · 25/05/2025 19:50

I think it will dissolve quickly so I don't think it's as urgent as a hard object. Can you feel it?

smallglassbottle · 25/05/2025 19:50

Get a saline nasal spray tomorrow and flush it up and out. It'll emerge at an opening in the back of your throat which you can spit out or it'll just go down into the stomach. I get sinusitis and have larger than that mucous blobs that I have to flush.

cherrycherrypickin · 25/05/2025 19:53

A quarter of a sheet of toilet paper isn't loads and it will dissolve. Surely you can either reach it or you have swallowed it. I'd get one of those saline flush things rather than spend 24 hours in a&e

Mylegishangingoff · 25/05/2025 19:56

Years ago my aunt thought my cousin smelt awful so brought him to the Drs. Turns out he had toilet paper rotting up his nose. I'd go before you become a stinker.

EstherPigeon · 25/05/2025 20:15

How about ringing 111 for advice? They've heard it all before, and will be able to help you navigate through all the conflicting suggestions. Good luck!

MyTattooIsBetterThanYours · 25/05/2025 20:17

Can you go for a swim and flush your ENT that way?

SupposesRoses · 25/05/2025 20:21

You could do a saline rinse up your nose.
