I have done something really stupid! Do I really need medical help?

I can go into the details if needed but I have a wad of toilet paper stuck up my nose! About a 1/4 of a square sheet if it matters.

it’s totally gone, can’t see it with a torch and trying to blow my nose does nothing. I can’t even feel it.

FFS do I really have to go to the Dr as a 43 year old and tell them this? What’s the worst that can happen if I ignore it?

Probably will have disintegrated by now and so nothing there to blow or swallow.
Unless you are in acute pain or can’t breathe I’d just not worry

How about ringing 111 for advice? They've heard it all before, and will be able to help you navigate through all the conflicting suggestions. Good luck!

No, don 't do this. You'll have to answer 1001 irrelevant personal questions and then they'll tell you to go to A&E just in case and you'll be just one more person who could have safely waited for 48 hours to see what happens and then realise that the problem has sorted itself out. It's not an accident or an emergency. As others have said you can shift a small piece of paper by irrigating your nose. Make some tepid salt water in a cup, close the other nostril and sniff the saline solution up and allow to to run down your throat. You may feel the paper being washed down your throat, you may not. You may already have swallowed it.

Er...yes.

Things stuck up your nose can cause infections and issues with your sinuses, which can, in rare circumstances, cause issues with the brain. You don't want to mess with stuff like that - just like you don't want to mess with ears or eyes.

Yes, I remember not taking dental issues seriously once and had a doctor explain why it is so serious (was causing swelling on jaw. cheek/under nose)-and then I'd never heard of the triangle of death. Seriously, I would ring 111 and get advice.

Believe me I tried everything.

Re people using tap water in neti pots - hopefully you all know you're meant to boil it for 5 minutes before squirting it up your nose?

The obviously let it cool down to a reasonable temperature before use

Brain!! 😂

It sounds OTT, but it's a real issue. I had a biopsy on my nose during lockdown and as advised, got the nurse practitioner to check the area over a few days afterwards. I thought absolutely nothing of the fact that it was bit pink, but he looked slightly bothered and went to find a doctor to check me over. I had antibiotics for a few days. Bearing in mind that it was a tiny spot almost on the tip of my nose, with plenty of exposure to fresh air, you wouldn't think there'd be a cause for concern, but apparently, doctors prefer not to take chances with anything that close to the brain.

Tinklebinkle · 26/05/2025 01:07

Just sniff a dab of pepper and sneeze it out rather than sticking anything else up there. Seems much easier than dealing with pouring water up there or sitting in A & E for hours surely. 😂

roboroughgirl · 26/05/2025 10:02

Google mothers kiss. Old way of getting something out of children's noses. Trust me on this! Did it at a &e once. You'll need a good friend... to basically blow in your mouth. Close the non blocked nostril. Friend blows in your mouth... it won't blow up your lungs and the tissue should blow out. Might take a few good deep blows. Good luck

Oh ffs this is obviously bs. Just another op looking for attention.

ffsfindmeausername · 26/05/2025 17:48

those saying go to A&E immediately ffs no wonder the place is so crowded when people are going with such non issues like this.
I'd only go in situations like this if I started having problems and discomfort. let's face it its probably fell out or maybe even dissolved.

MMUmum · 26/05/2025 17:54

Your nasal passages are a route to your brain, it's not beyond possibility for an infection to travel

SparklyLeader · 26/05/2025 17:57

Yes, go to the Doctor. Embarrassment is free, but peace of mind is priceless.

vintageskills · 26/05/2025 18:08

faerietales · 25/05/2025 19:34

Yes - go. You don't want to mess with your head/brain in that respect.

What?! 😂

Pinkelephant66 · 25/05/2025 19:39

I’m sure people have been to A&E with much worse…more than likely with objects stuffed up their bum

That topic probably deserves a thread of its own!

Isinglass20 · 26/05/2025 18:12

Eucalyptus oil on a hanky for all those who suffer from dripping/runny noses day and night

NoBodyIdRatherBe · 26/05/2025 18:28

My friends kid ended up with an infection and was very very sick. I’d get it sorted asap.

RobinHeartella · 26/05/2025 18:30

Going forward, op, invest in some mini muslins for your runny nose. It's greener, you can put them in the washing machine, and there's no danger of losing one up your nose

amooseymoomum · 26/05/2025 18:36

maybe I am too sensitive but when If I had something like that in my nose it would bloody irritate me so I would probably sneeze. I would have thought if such a small amount of paper then you would sneeze it out. its a foreign object so surely a body would expel it

Missingpop · 26/05/2025 18:39

Flush it out but using a nasal flush you don’t need to go to A&E or GP

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 25/05/2025 20:23

Have you blown your nose hard? Ds once posted a tictac up his nose...

I did that 🤣
I also swallowed a penny once doing a magic trick in the back of my mum's car lol 😆 🤭🫣

wooo69 · 26/05/2025 19:12

When my daughter was 3 she got a bead from a broken necklace up her nose, we couldn’t see it so off to A&E at 10pm. After x-ray they tried to reach it but couldn’t so sent us to another hospital with an ENT department. They couldn’t see it so said go home, watch for runny nose/signs of infection and come back if necessary.
following morning she says “why did we go to the other hospital”, explanation followed and the she said “it came down into my mouth while we were in the car and went down to my tummy”

She didn't - she said she can
