I have done something really stupid! Do I really need medical help?

I can go into the details if needed but I have a wad of toilet paper stuck up my nose! About a 1/4 of a square sheet if it matters.

it’s totally gone, can’t see it with a torch and trying to blow my nose does nothing. I can’t even feel it.

FFS do I really have to go to the Dr as a 43 year old and tell them this? What’s the worst that can happen if I ignore it?

Try eyebrow tweezers? (Gently, carefully, SLOWLY).

NappyArgument · 26/05/2025 19:28

Yes, details are needed!

DisforDarkChocolate · 26/05/2025 19:40

My son had something similar up his nose for weeks, the smell when it came out was like death! We didn't know it was there, just thought he had a cold.

No I wouldn’t go to ED. You need to call NHS 111 and go to a walk in Centre if they advise you to do so. This is not an emergency that warrants an ED visit.

Muckybib · 26/05/2025 19:56

Jeez? I'm not offering medical advice but if it was me I'd start off by drinking water and forcing it out of nose maybe u can clear it out that way.

Muckybib · 26/05/2025 19:57

But if u are worried at all go to a and e best be safe

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 26/05/2025 20:13

Are you going to come back and tell us if you're OK @idiot81 ?

Lbet · 26/05/2025 20:44

Oh dear I think you have all been had🙈

idiot81 · 26/05/2025 20:50

Sorry I was travelling last night and wrote a long update which didn’t post! Will update soon with the story but at this moment it’s still stuck and bits seem to be coming away ffs 🤦‍♀️

I’m back in work tonight but will be back!

I stuck a button up my nose when I was really young (i was trying to smell it 🙄), my parents took me to the hospital/doctors and they said in all likelihood I'd swallow it and poo it out!

You had a lobotomy ? 🤪

Er...yes.

Things stuck up your nose can cause infections and issues with your sinuses, which can, in rare circumstances, cause issues with the brain. You don't want to mess with stuff like that - just like you don't want to mess with ears or eyes.

I agree. Many years ago, I had a persistent large boil on the side of my nose. Some nurses I worked with told me to go to my GP for antibiotics as soon as possible due to the risk of it causing an infection which could lead to issues with the brain.

Generationgame9 · 26/05/2025 21:01

Omg sometimes when I have a cold I will roll up little toilet roll drip blockers, pop them in my nose and lay with them in whilst in bed and now I’m never doing that again.

Topsyturvy78 · 26/05/2025 21:18

Try a sinus flush but it's possible to inhale tissue so you might need to get checked out.

allmymonkeys · 26/05/2025 21:37

Go unless you like the idea of chronic sinusitis. You may have to put up with a few quizzical smiles but believe me in terms of things that grown adults have managed to get stuck in orifices you won't even make the top 100 medical anecdotes.

Momstermash94 · 26/05/2025 21:58

This thread has unlocked new fears in me about things accessing my brain through my nose 🥴

PuggyPuggyPuggy · 26/05/2025 23:00

I guess tissue would dissolve and work its way out naturally, but I'm not a doctor. But this is a rare opportunity to share my "foreign body in nostril" story so here goes:

I once snorted a fly up my nostril. It was bizarre, the damn thing flew right in my face and I breathed in at the same time and felt it go right up my nose. I immediately snorted and coughed and probably made quite a lot of fuss because, eww, I snorted a fly! I figured I had probably blown the thing straight back out or - the less desirable outcome - swallowed it, and told myself that no, I could not feel the bastard buzzing in my sinuses. Couple of hours later I sneezed, blew my nose, and there it was 😬

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 26/05/2025 23:38

We need to know how

Xmasxrackers · 27/05/2025 08:59

My daughter shoved cat litter up her nose… I called 111 who said go straight to A+E, thankfully, she did the biggest sneeze, it shot out and hit me in the middle of my forehead as I was strapping her into her car seat!

I think your brain is safe for now 😊

Are you a doctor?

3luckystars · 27/05/2025 09:24

Yes of course! We are all doctors and so are our wives.

CharlotteCorderoy · 27/05/2025 21:34

When I was little I got my Sindy binoculars stuck up my nose

HAB75 · 27/05/2025 23:25

There is a really big cavity up there somewhere. I blew my nose a couple of months back and something called a polyp came down. I don't exaggerate - it was bloody huge. I had no clue where it could possibly have come from, or what it was - I wondered if an alien had popped out to say hello. Your paper will probably be wherever that was hiding. Apparently doctors can get these polyps down themselves without too much of a business and when I am feeling brave, I'll ask to have the other removed. The human body - what a bloody nightmare!

smallglassbottle · 25/05/2025 19:50

Get a saline nasal spray tomorrow and flush it up and out. It'll emerge at an opening in the back of your throat which you can spit out or it'll just go down into the stomach. I get sinusitis and have larger than that mucous blobs that I have to flush.

This is what I’d do. Don’t sniff, just close the other nostril and gently blow the nostril that has the tissue stuck in it. If it doesn’t come out then go to A&E.
