Sympathy for those in Hungary. Bad enough that we had the 49 days, why should anyone else suffer?

No, really? Who would have thought it

Apparently that picture is of Woldingham School in Kent

However, there is evidence to suggest that the building is actually a folly, a decorative building built to romanticise parks and gardens often in the form of a Gothic ruin.

So there isn’t even a Marden Castle, just a folly. The DM is getting desperate.

So about as wealthy as this is Greek. Gofundme before crowd funding was coined as a term.

With Brexit now done, stories about the EU and it's potential effects on the UK are just everyday politics.

Is this going to be another EU initiative that gets the Express whining about the UK being excluded before asking Ben Habib ("leading" or "prominent" Brexiteer, depending on who has the crayons) for a soundbite that can be tweaked with the addition of "BLASTS", "DESTROYS" or "FUMES".

....but people will believe this bollox but so what if his Great Uncle was x or y?

My cousin is/was a barrister, that didn't mean my mums social security claim was rejected...

Who knew extended family wealth was supposed to be shared out???

The Tories are using every trick or rather lie in the book to discredit Labour & so far, it appears to be working.

countrygirl99 · 02/06/2025 08:19

My great uncle was very wealthy and held a number of influential posts. The only way this affected me was I got to meet Nigel Farage at a social function before he was UKIP leader - having met him there's no way I'd ever vote for any party he represents.
DHs cousin is wildly wealthy, the only impact in us is his aunt sometimes shows us pictures of her daughter's fabulous holidays way, way beyond our budget that we feel the occasional twitch of jealousy about.

Being tough on immigration does not appease the far right voters.

More waste from the Tories... millions spent on border facilities, now redundant..

bombastix · 02/06/2025 09:27

Now this is interesting- positively legislate against DEI?

bombastix · 02/06/2025 09:27

Weird, want /forcing the disabled to get into work...

Labour pushing towards the 'right isn't going to win back former Lab voters who now support Reform but make some in their current base to look elsewhere... me for starters.

DEI also includes women's rights....

Labour need and i hope they do, challenge Farage, not legitimise him.

bombastix · 02/06/2025 09:52

I think it was this statement of intent to really caught my attention

“We should drastically reduce immigration, reducing low-skill immigration by significantly raising salary thresholds; closing the corrupt student visa mill system; and ending the exploitation of the asylum system, if necessary prioritising domestic democratic politics over the rule of international lawyers.”

I imagine Reform voters would imagine that doesn’t go far enough, but for a middle of the road party it’s a big shift.

DuncinToffee · 02/06/2025 09:57

Blue Labour, who are in that group?

OP posts:
PandoraSocks · 02/06/2025 09:58

Unless Labour introduces a policy of shooting holes in the small boats, it will never win over Reform voters. Even then they'd probably complain.

Labour is going to gift Farage the next GE if it doesn't stop trying to out-Reform Reform.

Notonthestairs · 02/06/2025 10:06

Net migration fell by more than 40% in 2024. The largest nummerical drop for any 12 month period.

I'd love them to outline which salaries they would raise and how they will pay for it. Ditto how much university fees would need to rise for UK students. Do we really need to remind people that The Equality Act 2010 protects against discimination for things like pregnancy and maternity?
Its more back-of-a-fag-packet stuff.

And yes, if these are the sorts of policies that attract your vote, you may as well vote Reform.

DuncinToffee · 02/06/2025 10:15

DEI is different to EDI,
