Anyway, the Tory circus has folded its tents and heads into the night. Labour and Reform are in the ring now,

I was interested in what Sadiq Khan said yesterday re cannabis based on Charlie Falconers report. Possession of small amounts should be discriminalised, but will the Home Office do this? No. Depressing

SerendipityJane · 28/05/2025 11:46

I think the suggestion of a years salary as redundancy would go down unfavourably with a number of constituents

I don't know - if it was available to all workers, why not ?

However MPs like to claim it's a job when it suits them,.and a calling when it doesn't.

You'll be wanting evidence based policy next.

He sold the fishermen down the river. According to people on here their lives don’t matter. As long as wee Jocasta can live and work more easily in an EU country. Being in the EU suited me very well. I had my Hungarian au pair, my Romanian cleaners and beneficial trading arrangements. I’m struggling to think how membership benefitted the lower paid.

You could have paid more if you thought they were getting such a bad deal. You might have got Brits applying for the clea ing job then. You could have employed a nanny at a higher wage than an au pair. All your personal decisions so don't blame other people.

I think you’ve got the wrong end of the stick here. I didn’t exploit people. I didn’t need a nanny and our au pair begged to stay when her time was up. We have our brilliant cleaners in our house right now. They’re a couple with a child who live locally.
I meant low paid people in general.

DuncinToffee · 28/05/2025 12:45

How have low paid people benefitted from being outside the EU?

You see! Unconsciously satirical

derxa · 28/05/2025 13:03

You can sneer all you like. I just describe my lived experience. I’ve been on here for years and never name change so I’m an easy target. I don’t understand the pleasure you and many others on here get from baiting.

I think a lot of people fell for the Boris effect. He is engaging but was never to be trusted, and effectively destroyed his own party. The man is a hell of a campaigner but he can only lead by rushing to the front of crowd.

He played a lot of voters. Ruffled hair and stutters for the cameras and jolly japes. The man can speak perfect Italian and Greek, calls himself Alex and combs his hair quite well in private. Old Tories absolutely knew he was full of it

the same with Farage sadly.

He’s a great communicator - the problem is what he says imo. But he can get people to listen and buy in and that’s what makes him even more dangerous than what he’s asking them to buy into.

Piggywaspushed · 28/05/2025 13:08

I think it is possible the baiting works the otehr way. I have said it before, and happy to say it again- you only ever post when you want to offer a loudly rendered tut.

DuncinToffee · 28/05/2025 13:09

You do the sneering and baiting just as well but let's not get into a tit for tat argument.

Brexit has caused severe damage to this country, its not a thing of the past, we are all experiencing it.

I spoiled my paper for the same reason. Fortunately it’s Tory central here so it didn’t matter. Did your vote count where you live @derxa?

I wish I’d spoiled mine.

Voting against Corbyn not only meant falling for Boris’ charm but also putting a tick next to Bravermans’ name in the box.

The second was hardest but the first is now a close call on my list of things I’ve regretted in my life!

I voted for him because I couldn’t countenance having Jeremy Corbyn in power.

I think a lot of people did.

Are tuts not allowed on here? 🤣 Do you expect everyone to agree? As I keep saying I’m an old fashioned Tory Remainer. I’ll leave you to your bubble.

Would you have said in 1950 that everyone should get over the war, because it's been five years now and we should just get over it?

Brexit has been as damaging, if not more so, economically as WW2.

There are plenty of Tory Remainers in this group. They post without tutting. Tutting is patronising.

Such a shame he was a Hitler admirer in his youth not afraid of the odd sieg heil. . Imagine if the guy had a conscience and a moral backbone.

Yes this bit of Farage’s background gets rather skated over. Though we may all have had interesting opinions when teenagers
