So agree with you LlynTegid
the dismantling of surestart was a wicked act, preventative action usually always has much better outcomes in so many ways often wonder if wouldn’t have so many children with developmental/emotional issues if help had been available earlier.

Two things can be true at the same time.

Anyone who thinks the west isn't fighting a proxy war in Ukraine probably hasn't been paying attention.

But I am sure we were all taught there is a time and a place.

Horrible scenes from Liverpool city centre

Statement from Prime Minister Keir Starmer

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said “the scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected” adding that he was “being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate”

Awful.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2025 19:59

its just horrific.

thoughts and prayers to everyone involved.

dontcallmelen · 26/05/2025 20:07

Just awful, on what should be such a joyful day full of celebration.

PandoraSocks · 26/05/2025 20:56

It is dreadful. What a terrible thing to happen.

PickAChew · 26/05/2025 21:43

Such a horrible, calculated way to cause misery on what should have been a happy, fun event.

placemats · 26/05/2025 23:02

Man arrested. White, British and middle aged according to the police.

DuncinToffee · 26/05/2025 23:15

Merseyside Police say they believe what happened in Liverpool is “an isolated incident” and is not being treated as terrorism.

27 people taken to hospital. Two seriously injured. One child, one adult.

Some posters here not much better but at least they're being dealt with.

I'm not buying the "Labour are in trouble" line quite as easily as some. Mainly because I know what cui bono? means.

Lets see what the narrative is in 2028, when the run up to the next election starts.

Just out of curiosity, has any government been glad handed in their first year ? Of course not.

Prior to Reform, you'd be 100% correct but in all probability, the next GE will be between Lab and Reform.

I think after 14 years of being trodden into the ground by the Tories, the voters haven't the patience they may once have had.

Labour cannot wait until 2028.

On Reeves, she doesn't act in a bubble, the decisions she makes must have wide cabinet support, WFA aside, i think she has made some great decisions, even business NI... what was her alternative? the average worker cannot afford more tax & "Tax the Wealthy" whilst it all sounds good, in practice, is extremely difficult, though i do wish they would deal with council tax for the higher bands but that isn't gong to raise the 'billions required.

The Liverpool thread has been taken down. Some people don't get the concept of "don't speculate".

DuncinToffee · 27/05/2025 08:43

I am glad they did, the thread I was on last night wasn't too bad but it only takes one or two bad faith posters.

Horrific news this morning that about 50 people were injured - 2 seriously - an adult and a child.

Says it’s not being treated as a terror attack but motive is still not known.

It’s such a tragic end to what was otherwise a fantastic celebration and positive moment.

I can't see Reform lasting another 4 years in their current state. Either the act of attracting more moderate people has the effect of calming them down (viz: the rather uncontentious policies listed upthread and pull the party to the centre. Or the nutters reject that and continue holding Reform to the vote-sapping right.

Once again, who remembers the Social Democrats ? Some of us have been here before on the other side of the aisle.

bombastix · 27/05/2025 11:49

Well you can see the type they are from this in Hertfordshire. They are not kidding about turning the clock back and women’s rights. Very misogynistic

Given that Starmer is apparently the most hated person in the country right now, this doesn't seem to reflect very well on Saint Nigel...

King Charles will give a speech at the opening of Canada’s Parliament today. He’ll offer his support for Canada in the ongoing conflict with Trump America.

Our Mate Phil pointed out a while back there was some bad news for Nige in the polling.

His main problem being that from a Reform point of view, he appeals to the wrong demographic. And this phenomenon appears to be independent of his policies such as they are.

Writ large, Reform is still the Nigel Farage Show.

Just heard some of it on five live.

basically said that illegal immigration won’t cost anything by the end of a reform term as they’ll tow the boats back and so people won’t bother paying gangs to come.

Also a lot of “we haven’t written a policy on that” regards things such as triple lock.
