Just banter Hmm

Press: Is it appropriate to depict female cabinet ministers as cows about to be slaughtered?

Farage: They did it to us first, anyway it's just bantz, anyway I never said we were perfect. 👀 ~AA

That old nonsense. Recycled from Patel. I suppose they'll suggest armoured jet skis next.

There are no international waters in the Dover Strait - it's English or French so unless they seek permission from French authorities its a non starter. Thats why the Navy previously rejected calls for them to get involved.
Not to mention that turning overladen dinghies around is likely to increase accidents.

Well you can see the type they are from this in Hertfordshire. They are not kidding about turning the clock back and women’s rights. Very misogynistic

Was about to post that. Misogyny on steroids.

bombastix · 27/05/2025 12:44

Well I think Nige made some counter hits. One he went for Starmer’s leadership. On the cows, well he fudged.

On DEI, I do think journalists are missing the implications. DEI is really an extension of HR policies based on the Equality Act. Clearly Reform want rid of a few DEI officers but there’s no money on that really, but if you did remove the requirements of the Equality Act, that is a potentially a very potent deregulation for business (and indeed the state). I’m not advocating for this, but I do think it’s what Reform want, and then to amend or scrap ECHR law. That way you get to a legal position of about 30 years ago. Quite radical

The "estimated" billions saved on cancelling Net Zero is just made up speculation.

RNLI have also refused to be involved in any way

I think it's clear that the one thing Reform will definitely do is privatise more of the NHS and it will no longer be free at point of entry. Plus introduce a compulsory insurance system.

It would make a huge difference to employment and the costs to business. Get rid of equality law, you can employ and indeed sack people much more easily. Discrimination claims or indeed ECHR based laws are much much easier to do rather than claims of unfairness or unreasonable treatment.

Reform do not believe in diversity (at work or otherwise). It seems very consistent to me to attack DEI and migration because they are saying “no differences and no distinction” in law. That was the UK in the early 1990s aside from some particular protection for women and their pay.

I agree. Obviously they will not communicate clearly that what this means for long term conditions or those in relative poverty will be very negative. You don’t win elections with that

Half of MN will say that is fine.
Neatly overlooking that most EU countries governments spend more per capita on heath than our own government despite insurance based systems - so to match similar systems we will need to pay more anyway.

I doubt they will be too interested in what happens to those in already poverty.

placemats · 27/05/2025 13:11

@Notonthestairs and @bombastix

Of course this will only apply to NHS England.

bombastix · 27/05/2025 13:19

Well I don’t think Reform are big devo fans! It’s a question about whether they do well in Wales and Scotland. They started out as an English nationalist idea I think but they are very keen on being British.

Devo is one of those areas that has been mutually respected by Labour and Tory governments. However, the scope of legislative power still sits with Westminster. Power is granted to Wales and Scotland but the scope that power still is in the gift of Westminster.

If my Reform theory is right which is that it’s Britain back to the early 1990s, devo is not part of that

Rreform have no intention of allowing devolved parliaments stand in their way. Whatever their "policy" on the matter, they will be for the chop.

So St. Kemi and Lord Farage will have to find some other reason to attack the government.

With the WFA cut being reversed n(?) and the 2 child cap being lifted, it's frustrating how incredibly badly Labour managed their first 12 months in power.

Still 3 more years of above forecast growth should provide some comfortable headroom for real investment.

I do think at some point the NHS will need to be privatised. With advancement in medicine and people living longer, our population growing year on year it won't be sustainable. Whether that will be in 5 years time or 10 years time is difficult to say but it will definitely have to change.

You now what would be a start ?

A consistent and rigid definition of "health".

I really hope so. And perhaps they could spare the cash for some decent PR advice

Eh?

Notonthestairs · 27/05/2025 15:46

Before anyone rushes to change health system I’d like them to outline specifically which system they are running towards.

An explanation of the set up & running costs is also necessary - any transition wouldn’t come for free. We’d also need a solid explanation as to what would happen to those on low incomes or those that have existing conditions.

And if it’s a system modelled on a European one there should be absolute clarity regarding whether the Government will spend more not less than they do now. It’s all very well saying for example I want the French system when their government has invested more per capita for years so they have more beds, more scanners, more infrastructure etc.

I’m not opposed to insurance based systems but I find some people are quite casual in their “let’s upend the NHS” approach.
