Bravo @cardibach ! What a sense of peace and achievement you must have felt approaching the cathedral (toenail situation notwithstanding).

I hope DS1 recovers quickly @pointythings and well done to DS2. I have a Marine Zoologist in the family so trips to coastlines are very….informative Grin

Trips to anything marine are really informative... DS2 is autistic and the one time we were at an aquarium in the Netherlands, he offered up an impromptu tutorial on reef sharks. A crowd gathered behind him and listened - he was oblivious. When he finished, they gave him a round of applause. He was 17. I know more about sharks and marine life in general than I ever thought I would - the most recent thing being all about the love life of lampreys.

Cathedral tax sounds an interesting development. Happy to pay mine.

Trips anywhere transport related - especially trains - are informative here courtesy of my autistic ds!!!

luckily he doesn’t need any response from me - just to pretend to listen 😉

I do indulge him though and have taken many a day trip getting on and off trains for him to pass over certain tracks and junctions and see certain stations.

@itsgettingweird my DS likes being asked questions and answering them. But he's excellent at tailoring what he is presenting to his audience. He wants to work in marine conservation and communications, which is totally his bailiwick.

That would be a massive plus, but expect some benefit bashing galore on MN!

BestIsWest · 24/05/2025 19:04

If we’re paying Cathedral tax, can I submit a large church?

Congratulations @cardibach. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. Might see if friends like the idea.

Fingers crossed the 2 child cap will be lifted.

Yes my ds loves being asked a question which allows him to impart his encyclopaedic knowledge of a subject!!!

He’s a software developer at a start up and his boss loves it when a potential client asks him a question because DS can answer it with such passion and detail.

He falls down when people try and engage him in small talk and general conversation. But luckily all our close family and friends accept this and he has a brilliant boss who cheerleads him for what he brings.

He doesn’t yet manage to tailor to an audience in the fact he can’t judge if others are engaged or how they are reacting and change his delivery. He can’t really even tell if they are listening - but he also doesn’t seem to care either as long as he gets to share his passion and knowledge!!!

I’m always amazed by the knowledge he’s acquired and the level of detail he can memorise about his interests.

Speaking of children, Johnson has had another child.

@serendipityjane are you still with us?😁

Same with buses, here. Plans for days out have to be flexible when it turns out that a particular bus is on the road. Minor excitement when DS1 and I ended up on one of Arriva's last classic Optare Solos on our way home from Sainsbury's, last week, as it had only just moved depot 😂

Evenstar · 24/05/2025 19:41

🤢 apparently Carrie is hinting it will be the last, I am astonished there was a first

Yep. 4 kids with the same mum has to be a record for him.

He had four with Marina Wheeler. The papers are now debating if this one makes nine or ten altogether.

DuncinToffee · 24/05/2025 20:04

Guess he won't stop writing for the DM any time soon then. Can't live off chicken feed.

It is probably time for him to move on to a new woman, then.

I was once told a larger number by someone who had worked in the Cabinet Office. Though I don't know if that was number of children or the number of times one of his wives/mistresses had become pregnant.

Alexandra2001 · 24/05/2025 20:19

I think his behaviour is disgusting... little more than an alley cat.

Well, increased trade and all that.

Our mate Phil predicted the cap would go in this parliaments lifetime and called the MPs that rebelled over it a bit dim.

Oh no, I had a post deleted first.

Then (I suspect) the thread descended into unpleasantness. Beyond that, I cannot say 😷
