I missed that thread, I do wonder why an Angela Rayner thread has popped up.

Speaking of children, Johnson has had another child.

@serendipityjane are you still with us?😁

Can we have a whip round for a vasectomy?

Well done @cardibach x

BIWI · 24/05/2025 21:54

The whole Angela Rayner thing is clearly being whipped up by the RW press, isn’t it?

Faux naive post on here today as well, I noticed. (The one about her leaving school at 16, pregnant and without GCSEs)

Barry doesn't do dull and boring. Barry seemingly doesn't do written English either. 😁

BIossomtoes · 24/05/2025 22:30

I’m not sure Barry does brain cells.

What did Barry think council meetings would be like?

He should have moved to Durham. We have a sprung dance floor at cunty Hall.

It gets worse. I've read that he used to be a teacher. I don't know how he passed the literacy test.

Observer is reporting that Labour are looking to scrap the 2 child benefit cap

Rather late as its now a Reform policy!

Talk about being outflanked! on top of the delay in the Child Poverty strategy.

Will now just look/portrayed as a weak Starmer, following Reform....

I commented on that.

It was obvious by the thread title what the agenda was and then there was the faux innocent OP.

AR has down amazingly despite her teen pregnancy. I think that’s probably what makes her a great advocate for giving people a chance.

Alexandra2001 · 25/05/2025 07:37

Yep if reports true, Starmer should have been listening to Rayner...

BIossomtoes · 25/05/2025 07:46

I’m really hoping she’ll be Labour’s first female leader. I find her more impressive all the time.

Absolutely agree.

I never thought I’d align myself so much with someone so le ft of centre but I just find her captivating when she speaks.

Everything she says makes so much sense and she draws you in.

Id vote for her in a heartbeat.

BIossomtoes · 25/05/2025 08:36

She reminds me of Barbara Castle. It might be the red hair but she shares the gutsiness and plain speaking as well. It’s a shame she seems to bring out the worst in a certain kind of woman.

SerendipityJane · 25/05/2025 08:45

It's possible that trying to demonise Rayner could backfire. Ultimately all the brickbats can only ever centre around the fact that regardless of her politics, she is a hell of a woman (I am not at all fangirling, you understand).

Especially when the entire thrust of political debate since whenever has been to excuse bastard men "because of their achievements". In fact Rishi Sunaks entire USP was built on "look what he rose from".

At some point the hypocrisy will break a wall somewhere. Enough people will twig.

Also - and I am sensing there is a growing irritation in our own right wing here ... also the worse Trump behaves every day, the less some of the negatives make sense. Indeed trying to use them only serves to do down the Donald. Despite his publick arslikhan, I bet Farage wishes Trump had lost. He could have done a lot more with that.

What is it about low intelligence and a weird use of the third person ?

Is it some sort of sign of a pathology ?

I mean there are classical precedents. But you know not a single one of this rabble would know of them.

cakeorwine · 25/05/2025 08:59

I see Reform are trying to be all things to all people now. Tax cuts, extending benefits and reducing VAT on school fees.

Would love to see their thought out spending plans and tax plans.

2dogsandabudgie · 25/05/2025 09:00

Linden Kemkaren Reform UK's new leader of Kent County Council is taking her new role seriously. She has told councillors that the Garden of England will "flourish under our stewardship."

In her first leader's report to Members LK said "what an honour it is to be standing here in this Chamber not only as an elected official but as Leader of this Council. Being elected to any public role is a privilege and I'm focused on setting the course of this Council over the next few years.

LK told members that her first priorities include finding solutions to reduce disruption on Kent's roads, putting pressure on Government to adequately fund social care and improving education and skills for the County's young people.

Yes, he’s expanded his intended tax cuts by some measure AND is offering to extend benefits. The sums don’t add up.

“The manifesto puts Reform’s giveaways at £140bn ($190bn, 5% of gdp) per year, but claims to offset them with savings worth £160bn. Even on a generous-but-realistic accounting, The Economist estimates that the annual costs are in the region of £200bn and savings around £100bn (see chart). The gap between the two would amount to a colossal fiscal shock, blowing up the deficit and straining the gilt market to its limits.”

Nigel Farage’s economic plans are a disaster

Three choices: fiscal implosion, deep austerity or a hasty U-turn
