Doesn’t sound odd to me.
But I think that’s because I experienced the same.
Grew up in city. Diversity pretty standard and none really played a credence to it.
Moved to suburbs - village - and people there did have an issue when there was very little diversity.
Mow in the suburban town the next stop along and my daughter of migrant parents MP is leading the charge against immigrants settling in our town. Again it was extremely white a decade ago.
Mh road is now wonderfully diverse with black African, Caribbean, Indian and Asian residents as well as various European backgrounds. It’s wonderful to exchange cultures and food and experiences and yet have a shared love of our area and share the same schools and shops etc .
