The Economist got the ball rolling last week -

“Reform’s policies add up to an agenda of fiscal recklessness that rivals, and may well exceed, the disastrous 49-day, hair-raising, market-tanking premiership of Liz Truss in 2022.”

Reform UK leader, Nigel Farage, speaks at a party press conference

Nigel Farage’s economic plans are a disaster

Three choices: fiscal implosion, deep austerity or a hasty U-turn

The key would be that Reform could implement on the basis that the electorate voted for this kind of 'fiscal calamity'. Truss hadn't faced a GE plus the Conservatives know when push comes to shove, they will shove. The grey men around Reform will be the ones holding out Reflux approved flags.

I never thought much about immigration. I lived my whole adult life in one of the most diverse boroughs in the UK. There were waves of immigrants from various parts of the world over the 36 years I lived there.

I moved to Wales a few years ago, to a fairly white area (though the city as a whole is quite diverse). I have to say I have heard more moaning about immigration in this area than I ever did in my previous borough. That says something, eh?

Edited

Doesn’t sound odd to me.

But I think that’s because I experienced the same.

Grew up in city. Diversity pretty standard and none really played a credence to it.

Moved to suburbs - village - and people there did have an issue when there was very little diversity.

Mow in the suburban town the next stop along and my daughter of migrant parents MP is leading the charge against immigrants settling in our town. Again it was extremely white a decade ago.

Mh road is now wonderfully diverse with black African, Caribbean, Indian and Asian residents as well as various European backgrounds. It’s wonderful to exchange cultures and food and experiences and yet have a shared love of our area and share the same schools and shops etc .

Well done Labour.
Things are going in the right direction and it looks as if the rose tinted glasses re Tice and Farage are finally coming off and their half arsed policies are being scrutinised in the media.
In my opinion.

I hope so, a Reform govt would be an utter disaster for our country and could lead to the death of the Tory party, not something i would want, despite being on the left of the argument... we need a strong, more traditional Conservative party, not some AfD copy.

Tories focusing on Labour are totally missing where the danger is for the Cons.

I think we should all wait for Monday when the EU Summit will start to really annoy Reform and the Tories.

That’s a cheery thought 😆🤗

You couldn’t make it up.

bombastix · 15/05/2025 19:39

The bigger question is why they get fooled at all. The number of people that Farage has thrown aside if they look like they will eclipse him.

It’s his party, and you’ll cry if he wants to you to
