Idiotam habemus - Trumpum the Bigly XXX - Trump thread #143

No grey smoke necessary.

First 100 days have come and gone. Vance has killed the Pope, Musk is melting away and Trump's tariffs are on a slow boat to China.

Coming soon... Bigly's Birthday Parade. What could possibly go wrong?

Well if he wants to kill off the already ailing film industry then this will really do it!

LA is already suffering from Studio/Streaming cut backs, the strikes, the fires and other cities and locations in the US giving tax breaks to companies to film there.

Plus it's never just one production company involved - so which is he going to tax? The finance part, the production part, the distribution part, the special effects part, the actors etc etc etc??

But not good news for the UK film industry either 😡

Isn't LA firmly in the blue camp? How better to punish them for this, especially as there is some pushback from high profile people like Mark Hamill. It's not going to be on Trumps good list.

MigsandTiggs · 05/05/2025 10:51

I really think Trump is just throwing 'big' ideas around to confuse everyone and keep people busy with thinking about these potential complications whilst he gets on with goodness knows what.

I agree with this. It's easy to hide behind multiple bad actions than be caught out by a single one. It fragments the opposition and hampers co-ordinated pushback when you are inundated with Trump actions irl and on SM platforms. Inflammatory as some of Trump's sayings and actions are, they're the equivalent of deploying chaff to avoid detection.

Serpentstooth · 05/05/2025 11:12

Has he decided this because Mark Hamill mocked him? I'd laugh at such a suggestion but it's Bigly the Toddler so why not? Take that Skywalker, no more filming at Elstree for you.😛

Chaff. Yes, that's exactly what it is.

And even when stuff doesn't entirely escape detection in the storm of chaff, the Trumpists get a second bite of the cherry: "But we told you we were doing it and you didn't object then. So you're complicit."

If they throw out 100 vile or crazy plans they're semi-serious about, they will always be able to say that about the 1 or 2 they later manage to implement.

(Trump's biographer from before he went into politics says Trump did exactly the same when in business.)

RosaMoline · 05/05/2025 12:39

He’s such a fucking idiot.
Pretty much the same as his first tenure.
It’s almost like he wakes up each morning, and thinks ‘what utter chaos batshittery can I unleash today?
Can someone please explain why movies made overseas are a threat to national security 🤷‍♀️
I see many people speculating on social media that he has dementia.
He’s about the same age that we noticed my mum had symptoms.

Serpentstooth · 05/05/2025 12:51

Well, foreign movies are a threat because they're Not American. They come from Other Places and espouse Foreign Ideas. Sometimes, they even have Foreign Actors speaking Foreign Languages that Americans don't understand. Dangerous Infiltrators, who knows what they're really saying? etc etc etc etc. It's so depressing and stupid that it can't be taken seriously. America, what are you doing with this barely sentient oaf?

JoshLymanSwagger · 05/05/2025 12:57

<cough> I still buy DVDs.

JoshLymanSwagger · 05/05/2025 13:12

Watching the commemorations of VE Day on Sky News.
It's impressive, humourous (H* has only got one 🍊) and moving.
The Ukranian troops were rightly given a round of applause as they marched the route.
Just waiting on the flypast - they're circling off the coast of Norfolk.

Beat that 🍊

One way to protect yourself from "perpetual" being redefined, and the morals of latter day censors. Dog names being a case in hand.

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/05/movie-studio-stocks-trump-foreign-film-tariff.html

Shares of Netflix, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount and Comcast fell in premarket hours after President Donald Trump proposed a tariff on film productions shot outside the United States.

Of course he has dementia.

The only strange thing about this is his supporters' firm denial of this obvious fact.

I thought not, at some point. But having seen so many interviews where he is asked a specific question and he answers on a totally different subject that is absolutely nothing to do with the question, I am inclined to agree

It reminds me of the Two Ronnies sketch where one of them answered the previous question to the one he was asked 🤣

RosaMoline · 05/05/2025 14:25

It’s all very concerning. As you say, he doesn’t seem to be in full possession of his mental faculties.
Going back to his first term, he spewed gibberish most of time, but he’s definitely declined considerably since then. To think the MAGAs used to mock Joe Biden! Pure hypocrisy.
I’ve also seen today that he’s been wanging on about some incomprehensible nonsense regarding young girls not needing 37 dolls 🤷‍♀️

BustingBaoBun · 05/05/2025 14:38

The 37 dolls thing is batshit. He keeps contradicting himself. When he was interviewed about it he said instead of 37 dolls the little girl can have two, they might cost a few more bucks though. So when the interviewer said, do the tariffs mean the dolls might cost more then?
He said "no. I didn't say that!"

FFS!

Branster · 05/05/2025 09:12

I also think the films aspect will be complicated especially where there are co-productions between companies from different countries.
And there are so many suppliers involved in production, from catering to building.
Will Netflix and Amazon Prime get into a tangle?
I really think Trump is just throwing 'big' ideas around to confuse everyone and keep people busy with thinking about these potential complications whilst he gets on with goodness knows what.

I mean all the countries that have a protective media policy (Canada definitely, France I think etc.) have a system for working it out. Just copy that.

Or in MAGA world, make up some crazy-weird way to work out who gets TARIFFED - such a beautiful word.

BustingBaoBun · 05/05/2025 15:35

He's on AF1 talking shit

Trump on strollers: "All costs are down. Everything is down other than the thing you carry the babies around in."

(He then did a pretend to push a stroller action)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaff_(countermeasure)

Or as my BFF and I used to (jokingly) do when we wanted to 'distract'; point up in the air in the opposite direction and shout "Look, a fish!!!"

He's now 'downplayed' the Alcatraz thing as "Just something I was thinking about". It's been estimated the costs to bring The Rock up to minimum standard would be $3-6mil and that doesn't count operating costs. I haven't been there for years, but I'd think it'd be a lot more than that. Gee, especially with all the tariffs on construction materials.

We'll have to see about the film thing. I'm sure that will end up being just 'something I was thinking about', too.

He spouts his 'stream of consciousness' bullshit just like a toddler. Or a person in a mental decline. One of the things we noticed about my mum as her dementia progressed was the lack of 'verbal impulse control'. She started saying things she would never have said if she had had all her faculties.

I wonder what would happen if foreign heads of state started refusing to deal with him directly citing "his mental state rendering him incapable of rational discourse or negotiation", ie he's just nuts". I'll bet Vance is chomping at the bit to declare Article 25 and take over. But with a Cabinet full of loyalists and the GOP majority in both houses, it ain't gonna happen. Sigh.

I know Vance is a shit, too, but at least he's not insane.

Damn, you know it's getting bad when Vance starts looking like the better option.

BustingBaoBun · 05/05/2025 16:04

I thought he had instructed various agencies to go ahead with this Alcatraz thing?

Is that just for botox and some new teeth? Wink
Ah, not Dwayne. Oops.

Are you sure about that? At least you know where you are with Trump (Cloud Golf Land, mostly) but I get the heebee jeebees about JDV.

Doesn't Canada give rather decent tax breaks/funding to production companies?

I couldn't spell Canada. 🤦🏻‍♀️
