Idiotam habemus - Trumpum the Bigly XXX - Trump thread #143

Spandauer · 03/05/2025 22:59

No grey smoke necessary.

First 100 days have come and gone. Vance has killed the Pope, Musk is melting away and Trump's tariffs are on a slow boat to China.

Coming soon... Bigly's Birthday Parade. What could possibly go wrong?

Vance is vile, a man unacquainted with principle but fortunately devoid of anything resembling the dubious charisma of the Orange One. Pence, by comparison, seems a reasonable choice, God help us all.

Wallaw · 06/05/2025 08:23

But Pence starts with an automatic deficit of the 30ish percent of Republicans who will never forgive him for him after the part he played in the 'stolen election.' He'd need to pull in a whole lot of independents to make up for that and the right wing ecosystem that's developed around Trump that's pulled in young people, particularly men, won't go for him.

I think, considering what we're seeing from congress and the R's unwillingness to exert even minimum checks and balances, this is the Republican Party for the foreseeable future and their next candidate, assuming there is a next candidate, will emerge from Trumpland. God help us.

Spandauer · 06/05/2025 10:14

Carney meeting Drumpf at the WH today. Hope he remembers to say thank you. (El Orangina got him elected after all).
And does Carney have a handshake prepared?

I hope Trumper doesnt do that push pull handshake thing he did with Macron that went on forever! To show how bigly he was

Yes, I agree - it seems unlikely that a 'new type' of Republican will emerge...

I saw something this weekend about Trump slightly distancing himself from the 2028 'campaign' and casually 'endorsing' Vance and/or Rubio as successors - but with him, the fairies will tell him something else tomorrow.

The Rest is Entertainment have a section on the proposed film tariffs in today's episode. Basic summary:

No idea how it can work
If they go ahead with it, it will kill Hollywood - films just won't get made

IF he's backing away from 2028 it's because either he's been advised to show his hand too soon or he was simply pulling another one of his 'publicity stunts'.

I think I lean towards the former. I just can't see him giving up the power willingly.

AcrossthePond55 · 06/05/2025 13:55

Obvs that's NOT to show his hand too soon.

Waited to long to edit.

MigsandTiggs · 06/05/2025 14:04

There is definite cognitive decline and I'm going to be charitable and say that the walkback was made in a moment of clarity.

His behaviour reminds me of when my mum was in the early stage of dementia. She glossed over 'mis-talking' with a laugh and often used imprecise language instead of actual figures. I wouldn't be surprised to discover that Trump had been told that the KAG photo with MS-13 was photoshopped, but he forgot.

He won't try to be re-elected as that will be the end of the Republican party. Meanwhile as of now, we have:
1354 Days
15 Hours
55 mins
to endure.

AcrossthePond55 · 06/05/2025 14:04

So today it's Carney v Trump, Round . I don't know much about Mr Carney, but I hope he he has a lot of patience, OR a good right hook.

He graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics from Harvard University in 1987, then studied at the University of Oxford, where he earned a master's degree in 1993 and a doctorate in 1995. He held various roles at Goldman Sachs before joining the Bank of Canada as a deputy governor in 2003.

Not thick. That's his special power.

In my more optimist moments, few and far between, I tell myself there's some slight hope that the family have used the grift and corruption successfully enough, enriched themselves to such a degree, it might not be worth their while to spend their time raping Democracy further when this term is done.

@MigsandTiggs

He won't try to be re-elected as that will be the end of the Republican party.

I can't imagine he would care about that in the slightest.

Igotjelly · 06/05/2025 14:35

If you want a measure of the man the. tRIP’s Leading interview with him is very good.

I meant that the Rep Party will find a way to stop him. Ambitious younger contenders chomping at the lead and suddenly, the Constitution will be inviolable etc.

From your keyboard to God's monitor.

But when has any dishonest super-rich person ever said "I think I have enough"?

Serpentstooth · 06/05/2025 16:35

Sadly true. Never enough, never too much. Only more, more and more.

I hope you're right, but I have my doubts. The GOP has ridden the MAGA-train to power for themselves, too. And I think they're content to stay on that train until the very last stop.

At this point there aren't enough 'Young Turks' in the GOP to make a real change. The Old Guard isn't about to give way to the New.

heldinadream · 06/05/2025 17:15

Carney sucking up bigly.

CaveMum · 06/05/2025 17:18

He’s now biting his tongue bigly!

heldinadream · 06/05/2025 17:21

Now telling it bigly straight with a side of suck-up. 😂

DuncinToffee · 06/05/2025 17:21

Carney to Trump: "There are some places that are never for sale ... having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign, it's not for sale. It won't be for sale ever."

heldinadream · 06/05/2025 17:29

Trump, shove a sock in it for the love of all that's holy!

DuncinToffee · 06/05/2025 17:33

Nervous waffling?
