@Igotjelly what concerns me is people I thought I knew well espousing Reform’s agenda on immigration whilst denying they are on the road to fascism, I just hope seeing what is happening in America will make some realise before it is too late here as well.

This morning on Facebook I have seen someone I knew well in the 90’s a Phd who married someone from the Middle East and converted to Islam, spouting stuff about strong borders in response to someone who said we must defend our hard won freedom from Fascism 😔

@Igotjelly I totally agree. I second @CaveMum's suggestion on getting outside. And as cowardly as it seems, the less time I spend reading new, the happier I am. I also try to get most of it via podcasts by people who are on roughly the same side of the fence - I actually think in some ways, echo chambers can be helpful to personal psychological health, if not political discourse.

Being outside in nature is an absolute god send, being in Scotland there are limited days that it’s nice enough to but thankfully at the moment it’s beautiful.

Not the AG (that's MAGAt Pam Bondi, another Trumpie blondie), Pirro is the interim US attorney for Washington DC district. This means she's the 'decision maker' for that district only. BUT it's a very powerful position because she will be the one to decide what cases will and what will not be prosecuted. She will also be the one to pick the attorneys and allocate funds for cases filed in DC. And just about all cases involving Scrotus, Legislators et al are usually DC cases. Since she's interim, it's not a permanent appointment, but who's to say it won't turn into one? If he does propose her, she'd have to be approved by the Senate, though.

STOCKHOLM — The Stockholm City Council has rejected the U.S. Embassy’s demands that it comply with the Trump administration’s rollback of diversity, equity and inclusion policies.
It’s the latest in U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to terminate such programs within the federal government — and beyond — in what he described in his inauguration speech as a move to end efforts to “socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life.”
Countries and cities across Europe have received similar outreach from U.S. embassies, including France, Belgium and the city of Barcelona, all of which lashed out at the U.S. efforts to expand its anti-DEI policies to the continent.

In an email to the city’s planning office, dated April 29, the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm asked that Stockholm officials sign a certification that their contractors do not operate any programs promoting DEI that would violate U.S. anti-discrimination law.
The city council said Friday that it will not comply with the U.S. Embassy’s demands or respond officially.

If Trump only wants US Embassies to work with contractors where there is no DEI, he is going to have a much smaller list and also probably going to have to pay for those contractors.

NPR has also seen a draft of an executive order "ordering the reform of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission." Shouting 'Fake news too woke Marxist plot' can only take them so far. How will this be managed? They have no shame together with apparently unshakeable self-belief and they will make those demands. I've shown that article to DH (nuclear chemist) and he's horrified. He said the 'Linear No Threshold standard' is the basis for all nuclear safety. There is no alternative. Get rid of that and you're risking everyone's safety, from the nuclear power plant workers to the person getting a dental xray.

He's also concerned that Trump is chaging the governance framework so that the Whitehouse can implement their own changes to nuclear safety regulations, overriding experts, and in a way that allows them to hide the changes from the public.
