It's decades since I've bought ice cream, consequently I'm very out of touch. When I was a bairn in the 70s and 80s there was very little choice. Vanilla, Cornish, Raspberry Ripple and Neapolitan was about it. The take-home market was dominated by Lyons Maid and Walls, with Midland Counties bringing up the rear. Vanilla was OK but a bit dull. I quite liked RR. I only liked the strawberry part of Neapolitan. The chocolate part never tasted like chocolate and I've not liked chocolate ice cream since.

What do folk buy these days?

Mint choc chip is, and always has been, my fave!
No specific make. I'm a vegan now, and unfortunately not many companies make it; but I've seen it twice. I must make my own...
If I fancy a more ubiquitous flavour I often get the make Swedish Glace in vanilla or chocolate. Booja Booja do gorgeous vegan ice cream, but seriously expensive!

I adore pistachio ice cream but only really find it in Europe.

Girasoli · 29/04/2025 18:52

A cone with one scoop of hazelnut and one scoop of coffee gelato

From the supermarket - Ben and Jerry's half baked.

Gretnaglebe · 29/04/2025 18:52

I make my own. Vanilla and cookie dough is my favourite.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 29/04/2025 18:56

Hackney gelato gingerbread ice cream is lovely.

UnctuousUnicorns · 29/04/2025 18:57

Mint choc chip whenever it's available, failing that, banoffee, toffee, chocolate, strawberry, whatever... we had a glorious eight days in the Lakes earlier in the month, when it was sun and blue skies every day - I enjoyed lots of ice cream cones outdoors then. 😋

Devilsmommy · 29/04/2025 18:57

Kelly's strawberries and cream made with Cornish ice cream. Nothing comes close😊

QuackADoodleDoooo · 29/04/2025 18:58

I love this thread! I ate some fig and almond ice cream in Southern Italy and it was just the best thing I ever tasted. Totally irrelevant to your questions but you've just reminded me! At home I only really like Ben and Jerry's chocolate brownie but it's a rare treat

Move to Bedford. There's a gelataria in the arcade that does wonderful pistachio

Marmaladelade · 29/04/2025 18:59

Rum and raisin any brand

ThejoyofNC · 29/04/2025 18:59

Do you have a farm shop near you? Most of them sell ice cream now, it's usually from a local dairy and honestly nothing from the supermarket even comes close.

Pinkdreams · 29/04/2025 19:00

toffee for me

P00hsticks · 29/04/2025 19:03

Haagen Dazs Pralines and Cream for me, and for 'ice cream on a stick' it has to be the new Magnum Utopia Double cherry

painauchoc512 · 29/04/2025 19:04

I also love this thread! Loop and Scoop in Glasgow do a fab Belgian chocolate. Tiramisu ice cream is a favourite in Tenerife. And the little HD tubs are delicious!

Saucery · 29/04/2025 19:05

Wallings. Not sure how far southwards that has travelled yet.

MoominMai · 29/04/2025 19:05

Top two faves in the world are Pistachio and Cherry - ideally in Gelato form!

Farmfoods ice cream is lovely. The hazelnut and chocolate one is lush.

Omg I have not had tutti fruiti since i was 11! Didn’t think anyone did it anymore (it was ginoginelli i think when i was younger)

off to google my nearest farm foods!

Fairyvocals · 29/04/2025 19:17

HD salted caramel
Kelly’s clotted cream

I also make my own, which is delicious and, while not exactly a health food, isn’t bursting with chemicals.

BottleBlondeMachiavelli · 29/04/2025 19:19

The Co-op does a very good coffee flavour.

I miss tutti frutti. You never see it anymore. My autocorrect doesn’t even believe it’s a phrase.

Oh should have read properly. Farm foods? I think we have a farm foods in the next town.

ItsARiot · 29/04/2025 19:21

The best ice cream I ever had was from an ice cream truck in Cornwall. It was from an organic farm, I had lemon meringue, dh had Blackcurrant and cream. Both flavours were incredible, I’ve never had ice cream like it.
Our dd was 20 months old at the time and it was her first time trying ice cream, she went crazy for the blackcurrant one - we have a picture of her grabbing the cone, wide eyed 😂

I live in NE Scotland near the coast where there are loads of ice cream shops. I don't usually buy ice cream tubs to have in the house, but if we do it's from them or our local dairy which makes ice cream. My favourite flavour is honeycomb.

mackies? It’s so fine!
