A neighbour called Dave

Does everyone know a Dave?
The Daves I know are middle aged (obviously because it was a popular name back then)
But they all seem to be on benefits, drive a motorbike of some sort , smoke weed and have a few vicious dogs.
What are your experiences of Daves?

If you'd started a thread asking if everyone knew a Karen there would be uproar.

I think that would be good thread as it would show how RL Karens are a big variety of real and different people, just like Daves!

I know 2 Daves. One works in IT, a real family man, plays trumpet in an Orchestra. The other one is a lawyer in London, very successful, married, no kids. Neither has a motorbike, smoke weed or own dogs. They definitely aren't on benefits.

I was seeing a guy called Dave once. He was a lot older than me. Best sex I’ve ever had, it was mind blowing. He was a proper gent, in and out of the bedroom. Really classy and sophisticated.

I also know two other Dave’s. Neither are as you’ve described. Both nice guys.

My next door neighbour is Dave. Yes, he is middle aged (lol he’s about the same age as me so I don’t like admitting that, but he is). But he is not on benefits, does not have a motorbike, I’m not aware of him smoking weed, or at least I don’t smell it like I did with the last neighbours, and he does not own any dogs.

Is this some weird attempt to trick people into providing, and laughing about, equivalent male stereotypes to “Karen” which everyone has been (rightly) saying is misogynistic and ageist across the site for the last few days? (ie to say there is a male equivalent and it’s okay to laugh about it when it’s a man)?

Exactly my thoughts. It sounds very rough where the OP lives so I’m sure if all Dave’s are like that then so are the Kyle’s, Anthony’s, Sarah’s and Lucy’s

2 neighbours called Dave. One is a dog, a chocolate labrador. The other does a lot of running and owns a quantity surveyor practice.

Neither of the Daves I've known fits the description. The 70 year old, successful businessman into hill walking and climbing and CAMRA. The early 40s one into streaming tv, not using a smartphone except for work related and necessities, single and lovely colleague

I know one. Honest, trustworthy, reliable, hard-working, has a loving family and is now retired. Was originally a Dave, but likes to be called David now.

I know lots of Daves, but that's because I call everyone whose name I can't remember, Dave. Including the women. Not sure if I know any actual Daves though.

BIL is Dave. Hardworking, runs marathons, loves his family, has a cat.

The ones I know are all high achieving. All from same background as me (working class) went to Uni.
One has a chain of dental practices.
One has done really well in the police.
One has his own business - think health/leisure.
Never met a Dave who doesn’t work.

My neighbour David is vair naice, used to be high up in the Dept of Something before he retired from the civil service. Possibly he was the head of the Department, it's not clear as he doesn't like to boast.

Used to work with about 5 Steves though. We once had a guy come round on a 3rd interview and he got introduced to all the Steves, and it turned out he was also called Steve which caused much hilarity. Surprisingly he didn't get the job.

I know a couple of friend's whose husbands are called Dave / David. both really nice, normal 40 somethings. Also have an uncle David who is quite wealthy and upper class.

There's multiple name duplication in my close family. 3 Dorothys, 2 Tims, 2 Sarahs, 2 Ians. It's very confusing at times

I know 2 Dave. Both goes by David so does it count? No motorbikes. No smoking of any kind. No benefits they are both retired. One dislikes dogs the other has 7..

I had Daves on either side until recently. One of them entirely disapproved of cannabis but is an alcoholic. The other didn't use cannabis either and had a beautifully trained lab and drives a volvo. Whereas I smoke weed and have a (not as well trained) terrier. No motorbike though. I guess I'm a bit of a dave

Ex was Dave. Middle-aged. Didn't shower. Alcoholic. Walked a lot. Didn't drive. No dog. No weed. My DM bought him an ornamental motorbike which perplexed him as he wasn't a biker. Shouty.

But very friendly and lovely when not drunk. Worked in IT.
