Does everyone know a Dave?
The Daves I know are middle aged (obviously because it was a popular name back then)
But they all seem to be on benefits, drive a motorbike of some sort , smoke weed and have a few vicious dogs.
What are your experiences of Daves?

Not my experience with any Dave…but Steve, that’s a whole different story….(apart from on benefits, they do all work)

Runwayqueen · 22/04/2025 05:39

Next door we have a middle age Dave. He does work in a senior role, he owns a vicious dog (but is a complete softy). No motorbikes but many VW campervans. He does smoke a lot of weed though and has no concept of how bloody loud he is, nor does he care how loud he is because he is living his best life.

HeySugarSugar · 22/04/2025 05:43

I know two Daves very well - both middle aged but the hardest working men I know. Never been on benefits. Neither owns a dog. One owns a motorbike 😄

Yes yes and yes.

My next door neighbour is a Dave. Middle aged, lives alone. But he has two cars and definitely doesn't smoke weed. He gets up and goes out every day so I assume he works. Takes parcels in if needed. Very quiet and must hate living next to my noisy kids. Nice chap.

pilates · 22/04/2025 06:19

No complete opposite actually.

JohnWickAteMyHamster · 22/04/2025 06:45

I used to have a best friend called Dave. Met him at church, quiet chap. No motorbikes, no benefits, he was an SEN school teacher.
We lost touch a while back, shame. Lovely chap.
He got super into fitness for a while, definitely no drugs! And lived in a flat so no dogs either.

CallMeFlo · 22/04/2025 06:48

No the one I know bears no resemblance to your description

Retired, drives a nice car, goes nice holidays, does voluntary work in the village, has grandchildren that come and stay. He's a regular handyman and can turn his hand to most things. He's lovely

SwanOfThoseThings · 22/04/2025 06:48

The only Daves I know are at work, so not on benefits and as far as I know, no vicious dogs. They might have motorbikes (no idea, I'm not into bikes so wouldn't take notice) but there's nothing wrong in that - more environmentally friendly than the average petrol car.

MyIvyGrows · 22/04/2025 06:50

My manager is a Dave. Down to earth but with a very middle class lifestyle - lives in a very nice house in a leafy market town with his wife and three teenage/young adult boys. One small dog. No motorbikes.

EveryDayisFriday · 22/04/2025 06:54

The Daves I know all lovely blokes, work hard but are functional alcoholics.

crumblingschools · 22/04/2025 06:56

We need various bits of work doing in our house, all the workmen seem to be called Dave!

CyclingAddict · 22/04/2025 07:18

Our neighbour, Dave, is a complete knob. Does not speak to any of the neighbours, even if they say Hi to him. Middle-aged, works part-time, walks a lot and is supposed to be getting Divorced (not surprised!).

CatsWhiskerz · 22/04/2025 07:20

I know 2 professors called Dave, brother has a bike and both have cute dogs.

Dave in a cave reminds me of soap on a rope (remember them?)

The peach one by Avon 🍑

AppleKatie · 22/04/2025 07:25

The Dave’s I know vary from a very successful theatre director to the man who does my fences. I know a ‘big Dave’ but no unemployed dave’s.

Willyoushutthefrontdoor · 22/04/2025 07:25

Crikey didnt realise how many daves i knew! Snapshot of a few...
Friends husband Dave. Early 50s. Ex army. Works full time. Helps care for wife. 1 lovely little dog. Nice guy.
School friend Dave. Mid 50s. 1 pug. 2 kids. Works FT. Lovely home. Nice wife. Funny guy.

Dave the rave from work (because he's not) is a really nice guy. Happily married. No dogs but 1 cat. Small daughter through IVF. Fanatical football supporter...but the real wholesome type. Car.
Dave down the street friend of family. 2 kids works FT. Car and no dogs.
No motorbikes. No weed. No benefits. No vicious dogs...Those types all have various other names where i am.

KhakiOrca · 22/04/2025 02:48

But are they called "David" because that's different.

How so?
I expect every Dave and David has experienced the interchangeability.

PigInADuvet · 22/04/2025 07:27

Dave 1 - early 30s, father of 2, solid and dependable family guy, works hard, plays less hard now he's over 30.

Dave 2 - late 50s, married father of 2, high earning cyber security role. Quiet, calm but insanely intelligent.

Dave 3 - David, definitely not a Dave. 40s, married, no kids, historian with an interest in natural history and geology.

Dave 4 - not a Dave yet, but a David. Into minecraft and roblox. 7 years old. Unconnected to any of the above, name is not a family name.

Edit: realised I know 3 more.

Dave the guinea pig
Dave the French bulldog
Dave the pug.

BigDahliaFan · 22/04/2025 07:27

Daves I know, one cycles miles v sweet, one used to captain huge ships through the Panama canal, one is an amazing cook...

Talking of stereotypes, my first boyfriend was Kevin, he's now got a PHD and works at CERN.

RhododendronFlowers · 22/04/2025 07:27

I know a Dave who is Head of Maths at a local secondary school. He plays the violin and does a lot of charity work with his church. He's absolutely lovely. Late 40s.

Middleagedstriker · 22/04/2025 07:36

As I'm in my 50s I know loads of Dave's. None of them drive a motorbike, one is on benefits, one is a teacher, one an IT bod, one runs a restaurant, one is a lawyer, probably loads more. Almost all of them smoke dope but I think that is my friends more than anything!

handsdownthebest · 22/04/2025 07:36

I know a quite a few Daves. All lovely and quite fit as in 'middle aged but sporty'.
None of describe your Dave.

Crunchymum · 22/04/2025 07:38

"My" Dave (well David) is late 70's, retired and drives a 4x4. Nice enough chap, and we always have a chat when we cross paths. Looks after his disabled wife and always givea the kids a little something at Christmas and Easter.

Been neighbours for a decade and I've seen so no weed smoking!! No dogs, only a cat.

Only other Dave I knew well was an ex from about 25 years ago. He was vair posh. Came from a wealthy family in Gloucestershire, had his own house aged 25 and worked in finance. Was sadly very boring and we were not well suited at all, but he was very straight laced, came from a very "good" family, was very well educated and from memory was scared of dogs (although we all used to smoke a little bit of weed back than - early 20's)

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 22/04/2025 07:38

No Dave the neighbour, but 2 Dave friends, dh’s from uni, both sold middle class ex accountants.
